Anybody playing this, I am stuck

I have changed the picture on the door to look like the symbal on the wall and I have tried to put the stone square in. It says it fits but the picture is illogical so I am assuming I have to somehow change the carving on the stone square but it won't let me use the hammer and chisel on it. I have tried putting it on the pedestal first that doesn't work. I have tried everything on everything. And whats the hole in the wall, I can't seem to do anything with that? I am probably not seeing the obvious, can anybody help?

cant remember that well, but i do remember that after sliding the stone into position, the center slot was open, and i had to place the the sqaure you have in your inventory in the center stone.

well I thought I had my picture in the right order but when you said there was a hole in the middle I realised I had done it wrong, thank youuuu

I was confused because I got to the end of the game without having rearranged a picture, but then I realized I'd unknowingly taken the easy way out by using the hammer and chisel on it.
