So I'm completely stuck in this game for some reason.

I have one piece of chewed up gum, a glass spoon, and some wheat.  I have to figure out how to get by the croc in the swamp and how to get the butcher away so I can check his basement for the hairdressers dog.

It's been a couple of weeks since I have played this.  Have you read the books in the house yet, for recipes on what to brew up?  I believe you need to make the recipe to proceed.  The croc puzzle comes in much later in the game.
