Rub the scarf on the tapestry, throw the feathers against it, then use the cat on it.

Thanks Stalker I was able to finish the game

I am wondering if I need to adjust my screen resolution, or, if I am just overlooking the obvious.

My problem is that I am not able to accomplish anything in this game. I cannot pick up the matches, open the cabinet, pick up, or move the rug, pick up the gun, pet the cat, or move the plank under the bed. Cannot interact with the fireplace, or the door, or the coat of arms.

Is it me, or, is my screen resolution out. I hope it's not my resolution, because I have tried all settings and none adjust the available screen play space. Still, it is possible that it's the resolution, I think...

Does the screen play space go beyond the connecting line between the armor and the cabinet, or am I missing the obvious.

Help?

I don't understand, what exactly is your problem, Marie.

The game is best viewed in 320 x 240, force alternate letter box and antialised sprites.
Are you sure that you don't just have problems with the interface? Right click four times to take objects, one time to look and so on.

Then move the mouse cursor above the area and the name of the object appears. Left click to take, look the object. The matches e.g. are on the left window sill. Do you see the word matches beneath the cursor if you move it above them ? If not there may be really a problem with something in your computer.

Well, thanks for the suggestion Amanda.

Most of the games on AGS require 320x240, such as this game does, but my computer won't run them this way. I am however able to get the games to work when I chose the 640x480 graphics setting. In this case, I've chosen 640x480 and can move Earl around, but when I use the hand icon on the matches, Earl grabs for the matches, but does not pick them up. Strange. Interestingly enough, Earl can open the window, say heeeelloooo out it, and close it again.

I get the sneaking suspicion I am missing the obvious... maybe the matches aren't meant to be picked up just yet?

I can look under the bed and try to grab the plank, whereby Earl says something like "I think I can get this"...

But I am basically stuck...

Any suggestions anyone?Ã,  ???

I so hope it's not my computer, because this looks like a really cute little game.  ???

Marie,

I tried to play the game with a 640 X 480 and it worked for me...

I can take the matches at the beginning....and the board under the bed. But are you really sure that you don't confuse the take icon with the use icon ?

When "use" is active the cursor is a flat hand that is viewn form the side.

When "take" is active its a hand that grabs something from above.

So there are two hand icons.

You have to right click four times to get the take icon. Try to go under the bed once more right click four times until the grab icon appears. Then move over the bed until the word "board" in singular appears and left click. He'll take the board. If you used the "use" icon instead he'll run an animation and say that he might be able to take it.

By the way, why can't you play 320X240 games ? Or what happens if you try it ?

MarieLogan

Amanda, you are a life saver. I can hardly believe how daft I was with this. The use and grab icons appeared to be the same thing to me. *shakes head* This has got to be one of my most mentally devoid moments, ever.

THANK YOU!Ã,  ;D

By the way, I can't load any of the games with 320x240 as the message that comes up is, there was a problem initializing graphics mode 320x200 (16-bit). Problem:Ã,  (Can not set video mode). Try to correct the problem or seek help from the AGS home page. Possible cause:Ã,  Your graphics card drivers do not support this resolution. Run the game set up program and try the other resolution.

Anyhow, NEXT time I'm stumped, I'll remember this. Thanks again.

I feel dumb because I can't figure out how to finish this!. I have
Spoiler
matches, board, straight wire, scarf, socks, raincoat, happy cat, unconscious cat, sharp splinter, loaded schotgun. Don't know what the raincoat is for, don't know why I still have the happy cat (probably a bug), I picked up the cat after he found the safe and it turned unconscious in inventory (probably a bug). Most important is that I don't know what to do with the splinter and I don't know the combination to the safe. I can shoot things forever, but that doesn't get me anywhere.

Never mind. Found the answer in the completed games thread.
