I got the regulated laser but not sure what to do next.

When I use it on the unknown component, it says "operation unsuccessful" and when I use it on the alarm light, the light drops.

You're doing everything right so far, and you are right where you want to be. If I've done my job right, there aren't any dead ends in this game. Think about what has been changed now that the light bulb is gone.
It's a fun game, longer than I expected :)
I managed to move on by

interacting with the alarm light again.
But now I'm stuck

with the damaged bot inside the maintenance hatch. I've tried the gun on electrical switches, self, magnetic strip... to no avail. It always says "no effect". What am I missing?

@lanchong Keep trying. This moment is intended to feel a bit hopeless, a bit impossible. But there is a way out. You just have to keep looking. :)
