I have a problem though:

I'm stuck with the candles in the prison... I can't place them on the floor in the bedroom and I've figured out how to melt the candles but I'm not sure what to do with them now.

You need 2 melt them on the hot pipe in the room with the rat and then quickly go back up to the room before they go hard again
