Title: HOW TO TURN MUSIC ON AND OFF
Post by: on Mon 06/10/2008 15:48:37
I'm playing No-Action Jackson, a discontinued AGS game. Of course there's no official web site or forum for it at this point.

I want to know how to turn the music off. I think I did it (by mistake) at some point but I can't figure out what hotkey I used. It's probably standard across all AGS games. Thanks.

I'd take a look at the options in the winsetup.exe.

I guess I didn't make it clear. I don't want to specify lack of music for the entire gaming session. I want to be able to start with music enabled, and then turn it on and off arbitrarily throughout the session. LucasArts and Sierra games used F10 for this sort of thing.

In fact what I really want is pause (which is what F10 used to do, but it also shut down the music and sfx) so either of those functions would do.

Yes, that's true, but this is AGS. There is no standard button for it.
Unless the author put it in (which I don't recall he did) you can only do that before starting the game and turning music/sound off in winsetup.exe.

Or use the knob on your speakers.

So, um, consider this a feature request for the AGS engine? Who do I direct this to?

Standardized save-load behavior tied to a specific button, and pause-modify settings behavior tied to another specific button as in Sierra and Lucasarts adventures would be great.

Nobody.

It would be a swell feature request if it was 2003 and AGS would be new, beta-stage engine, but it's been "new" in AGS looong time ago and games have kind of grown out of it. As they're grown out of most Sierra-style things that were default and of which, many still are.
F-keys do things still, I think. F5 for save?
CTRL+keys do things too.
