I think I am going crazy! I can't get to the 2nd day. She's ready but keeps saying she has to find out something more about the kidnapping. She mentions the two cigerette butts she found but I can't figure out what I've missed. I talked to the inspector about everything. Help please!!!

Frodo, how kind of you to help. I got it now. I was looking at the wrong desk for the ashtray. It was on Pete's the whole time. Thank you again my friend.

Oops... I encountered a dead end and ... since I didn't know how to save, I have to start all over again  :'(

@Desi: do you happen to have a save game from around the start of day 2? I was entering Pete's house, had to hide and now

that I'm hidden behind the pillar I need to attack him. But putting the vial in the syringe inside the house is appearantly not a good idea. I have a lethal weapon but using it on Pete gives me "Hey, what you're doing there Susan" and a bit of conversation between the two. Nothing else. Trying to walk away gives me "I can't move from here or Peter will see me."

I don't want to start all over again so if you can help me out here ...

Leon, I don't have a saved game for you, but you were on the right track.

You SHOULD be able to use syringe on the vial, I'm not sure why you can't.  If that doesn't work, try the other way round (use vial on the syringe). 

Which pillar are you hiding behind?  Maybe it only works if you hide behind the LEFT pillar. 

When you have loaded syringe, use it on Peter to make him drowsy.

The syringe is filled. I'm already hiding behind the left pillar. But as soon as I use it on Pete, he's greeting me (What are you doing there, how did you get in etc.)  As soon as I want to step away I get: no, he might see you...
btw, I filled the syringe while hiding behind the pillar...

I've found the problem. When you stand behind the small side of the pillar, you lock the game. When you stand near the wide side (opposite of the door), it all works well. Continuing...
