can somebody tell me why i can't find the thinderbox at smithy?

the tinderbox is quite hard to see - its just to the left of the barrel at the front of the screen
i have the walktrough. but there is no thinderbox next to the barrel. there is nothing i can pick up. there is an anvil but i can't do anything with it.
I remember that that happened to me and I think you have to do something first - I think I had to give the blacksmith the drink in the bar first and when I returned the tinderbox was there.
it sounds silly but i did that. i have done everything the walktrough said. if you can't help me further...... thanks anyway.
I think there are bugs in the game...............I had to return several times to find the tinderbox - but later in game where you have to give instructions to Goewin it is impossible to do this. Its a shame 'cos its a great game.
