This is a bit more complicated, so rather than answer it all at once I'll answer it a line at a time; just read one clue at a time until you're not stuck:

There's a salt figure of a gnome in the bathroom.

The grinder in the kitchen does, in fact, work.  It's just that the switch to operate it is in a strange place.

Put the salt gnome in the grinder, then flip the switch in the bathroom.  Go back to the kitchen, and the gnome will be ground into salt.  Take the salt from the grinder and put it into the freezer.
