mdyoung40, you must give more details.
What "these great games"?
What settings do you use?
What error messages do you get? Simply - what exactly happens when you run a game?

There are some known issues related to Win7. For example, it is known that AGS may fail to run a game with DirectX 5 renderer, in which case changing to Direct 3D 9 may help. Sometimes it helps to run game windowed rather than fullscreen.
It's really a guessing game unless you give more details. I won't believe you can't do that, so please do. :)

Many people around are running Windows 7, I myself have Windows 7 64-bit.
If I understood correctly, you have graphic corruption when you run AGS games?

Here's screenshot of a AGS game setup that shows suggested settings in case you have problems running on Win7:

It's for "Resonance", but may fit other games that are made using recent versions of AGS engine.
Can you try setting these for your game and check how it runs? Are there any changes?

PS. I am going to check the games you named just in case to see if they have any specifics.

//----------------------
EDIT:

I checked "Donna, Avenger of Blood".
It uses "Snow/Rain" plugin and cannot be run using Direct3D 9 renderer unfortunately. If you have troubles running it with DirectX 5 renderer, try changing your laptop display setting to 16-bit colors mode. You may still have to run game in windowed mode, I think.

EDIT 2:

"Devil's Shroud" is made using older version of AGS engine, that does not support Direct 3D 9, in which case it should probably be run using same solution as for "Donna".
Actually, for all the older games that do not have explicit option to use Direct3D 9 renderer - if you have problems running them on Win7, change display's color mode to 16-bit, and if that doesn't work too, try also running them in the window rather than fullscreen.

By the way, I didn't quite understand what do you mean by " the picture is in horizontal 1 in. strips.its got blank strips in between". But now when I see "Devil's Shroud" I wonder, is it what you meant?

I don't know if this is suppose to be like that, but I do not loose mouse cursor, I can click on "Play" and play game further.

Many programs simply do not work with windows 7(not only AGS). Some programs run if you extract the files from the archives mentioned in this thread to the games directory:
