Lava Blava

Being quite the maniac that I am, I decided to play all the AGS games I have. In alphabetic order. And win them all.

And I got stuck in "Lava Blava". I wouldn't have cracked and asked for hints... were it not for the fact that a bug in it makes it impossible to

Spoiler
return to the screen with the "rabbit" after the parrot and the tree have been burned - the game crashes, because it apparently tries to move an animal that isn't there anymore.

So, I'd like some help from someone who's finished it, or something.

Spoiler
I've got the piece of wood, the banner and the rope. I've gotten to three places in the map - the first screen, where I've achieved nothing but picking up the rope, the "rabbit" screen, from where I got the wood, and the "Cannival" entrance, where I got the banner. That's it. I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. I don't even know what is the logic I should be applying. Help?

Well, it sounds like there's one important screen you haven't even been to yet...

Spoiler
Have you been to the screen with the elephant?  If not, walk right from the first screen to get there...

Also, one more thing; this may have been obvious to you, but it certainly wasn't to me when I played this game:

Spoiler
Those bushy things in the left part of the first screen?  They're cannibals, sitting around playing cards.  You can talk to them.  I mention this only because when I played it I couldn't tell what the heck they were, the message when you look at them was more baffling than illuminating, and I was stuck for a long time because it didn't occur to me to talk to what looked to me like a bunch of tropical fruit.

Heh. I didn't have the problem you described in the second spoiler. But thanks for the first, indeed I've never been there yet. It should get me going.

BTW, I assume (hope!) that once I've done what I already did in the "rabbit" screen, I don't need to go back... right?

Spoiler
Or will I need to do more stuff there other than just getting the wood? If so, please let me know, because in that case I have to restart the game, rather than restore.

I'm pretty sure that's all you have to do there, yes.Ã,  It's been a while since I've played it (I'm trying to go through all the AGS games I could find, too, though (for no particularly good reason) I'm going in order of increasing filesize rather than alphabetical), so I could be remembering wrong, but I really don't think so.

(This is kind of off-topic, but so far the only game I've run across that seems to be absolutely unsolveable is DROI0.Ã,  The creator of this game left cheat mode on, but even looking around all the rooms with cheat mode there doesn't seem to be any actual finish to the game--and even if there were, there are enough bugs that I doubt it would be finishable without cheat mode.Ã,  Aargh.)

[EDIT: Whoops...come to think of it, that's not the only unsolvable game I've run across.Ã,  There's also Bob's Quest, which has some game-killing bugs (though according to the game creator that's because he uploaded the wrong version, and he does have a working version he'll upload when he gets around to it).Ã,  And then there are Novo Mestro and Luke's Existential Nightmare, but I'm pretty sure those are unsolvable by design.]

Progressive hints; keep reading till you're no longer stuck.

Spoiler
Why did the masked whatsit burn the bush?  It had a reason...

Spoiler
It was after the mouse.
[close]

Spoiler
How did it know the mouse was there?
[close]

Spoiler
It heard the squeak.

Spoiler
So if it heard a squeak at the other bush...

Spoiler
You don't want to be standing by the bush at the time, though...is there any other way to arrange that?

Spoiler
Try talking to the parrot.

Spoiler
Didn't work?  Well, how can you make the parrot more aggravated?
[close]

Spoiler
Try poking it (i.e. using the hook icon on it).  (If that still doesn't work, talk to it again afterward.)
