You go to the tip of the rock and use it with the package.

Thanks, got that, but still stuck.

Spoiler
The fuse must be the "short on time" ingredient. I guess a worm the king uses for bait maybe can reduce a candy cane or the blue one by the pigs. I have molasses on the rock but don't know how to get honey. (For the comb no doubt.) The king would give me a crown if my pie had fishy stuff. I'm stuck at all these and also the shell game.

Um, I seem to be a bit stuck here:

Spoiler

I have the PI badge, fingerprint powder, copy-worm, spatula, cloth, used hanky, bucket, file, prepared pie, and another jar-o-molasses.

I can go round in circles all day collecting the blue cup, changing it into a bucket, collecting the food and file, and then using the food on the magnet. Nothing seems to make any difference? I can now get to H.A.L. although how I achieved that I'm not sure? Nothing seems to work against the bogey man.

If I try any items on Flim it says something about Ghosts? I thought I had finished that bit?

Oh and I've tried using the cloth on everything in my inventory.

Title: Re: Once Upon a Crime
Post by: on Wed 02/01/2008 17:00:07
Okay, I put a new version up that adresses this, but for those of you who are already that far:
Spoiler

You can enter HAL from the world map if you've been to the bridge before you got the extra file. If you didn't, you need to reload an earlier savegame where you either got one file, or have not used the bucket on the pig's food at all. Or get v3.1B because in that version, you cannot get an extra file.

Go to the Toy shop and get the Log.

Then, try to pick up the copper rods again: Hint!
[close]

And, yes, I wouldn't put copper pipes in a game without them having a use. These things are expensive!

There are a few things that are not suggested but you still have to do. On the other hand... there are a few things suggested that you don't need to do...  :D
This one is not suggested but hey... it's an adventure. Try the things that are not obvious just for fun. Or to get further in the game.

There's another one coming up in the game. Not suggested but needed to get further.

Spoiler

You can't do anything at the crime scene until you have the tin soldier's permission - presumably you've shown him your PI badge, or else you wouldn't have been able to get to the scene in the first place.

Have you used the fingerprint powder? This will reveal a suspect, who you can then go and investigate.

getting the fairy dust - I did this wrong first time round, and then reloaded a saved game and did it right the second time. But if I hadn't had that saved game, would there have been a way of getting the dust that was spilled? Presumably there is, because you can put down something to catch it...

Glad you figured it out, and I was not exactly serious  ;D What would a game be without at least one "Ooooo that was so obvious!!!!" moment?

@Paolo: Only one way to solve it, but forgivingly, unlimited tries by simple resets. No puzzle can be brought into a state where you need to reload.
