Does anybody know where the key for the exit is in Chapter 2? I seem to have been wandering around all four segments of the dungeon for hours, but still not found it.
I'm still stuck in ch 1. Where do you use the tiles or the lantern? ???
never mind, i just found the passageway; however, i just can't find the right combination

It took me a while to find the passageway. It's not hidden, but just make sure that you explore the room south of the library completely and you'll spot the exit.
The lantern is not used in Chapter 1.
The tiles are placed in an obvious order, though you might want to look up the Wikipedia entry on the subject of 'zodiac' to help you.
The right order of the tiles is also displayed in the room before the library, though the images are not very clear.

I did try all tiles but no luck. Are you start left to right or up down and can you tell the with one you have to start ( Aries ?).

I can't find the stupid key for level 2. Can someone help Please???? Great game, but i'm starting to get dizzy from going around in circles. ???

I got so damned fed up traipsing around searching for this blooming key (if there is one) that I've PM'd the author help. He hasn't mailed me yet, but I'll report back when he does so.

I have visited all sections, sections 2,3 and 4 with the watergate in all 4 positions and looked in every room that was accessible, to no avail. The other puzzles where easy, but now it seems I'm blind.

you have to change the water gate poort (turn it 2x times) . Find the way to a other gate entree and you can find the door you can unlock

you have only select the key in the Bundle and when you are on the right door to use the key , the hand grabbing motion come out. There are a PDF Manual in the dir

Take Key in Guard Room.
Enter "Water gate" from north, leave east. Turn it two times. Now it's not possible to go back. It's exits now are south and west. Cross Dungeon to south entrance, leave west. Walk up, down-left, left, up, up-right, right (hope it did read my map correctly). You'll get to a special door (hot-spot marks "?"). Use key.
Garden:
Dunno either. Just opened the gate by using the key held by the statue above. Also no idea why I need to run.

The chandalier-screen has a south-EAST Exit!
Chapter 3 has four distinct areas, three of which need to be explored fully.
The first is the initial garden area, but this only supplies atmosphere. The second is the garden maze. Taking the path into this leads to the sundial from which there are three other possible exits. Explore all of these areas.

I have been busy preparing an update that should make Chapter 3 easier to play. A couple of patches are available if you wish to modify your game (see my posting under Completed Games).
If you want a clue to what you need to do, I suggest that you re-start from the beginning of Chapter 3, go directly to the spiders and watch them a while. That should jog your thinking in the right direction.

Restart level, go as quick as possible to the tree, eat fruit, take key from statue, open door, run and pick up handle (seems be be needed, otherwise HOOOOOREY, new dead-end!), run back and pass the spiders as long as the net is small!
Tried it after updating to Version 1a.

I got past the spiders and saved at beginning of chapter 4 but i never found the handle on chapter 3.

For people that have a fast computer download the program cpu killer and run it. I have cpu killer and had to run it at 73%
to slow it down so i could get past the spiders (just by a few seconds)!

I am surprised to learn that the speed of the cpu affects the timing on Chapter 3. My undertsanding of the AGS system is that it runs at a set number of frames per second regardless of cpu speed, and that the timers are based on numbers of frames. If this is so, then the timer should run at the same speed on all PCs. Am I mistaken in this?

it is kind of hard, but worth it.....the goat isn't what you think......i think it was fun. although....i am going to shoot myself if i can't get out of the garden soon.

Yes here to i hate maze, slow walking and pixelhunt. its no fun anymore to play the game (Sorry to say that) but elentgirl did make a wonderful game :)

The map and key are in the guard room which is very near the start. If I remember correctly, from the start of the chapter cross the spikes, walk around the edge of the room and take the first exit to the left, then take the exit to the top.

I'm also stuck in the garden. I manged to get to the end by running straight for the exit, but not otherwise. I go to the statue with the key, eat the purple fruit, go through the door, into the shed, turn the handle and then go to the web as fast as I can and arrive at the web fully formed. My processor is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.21GHz.
I'll play on if I'm missing something or if this is a bug that can be fixed, but I really can't be bothered to slow my processor, having already become stuck several times and hit 2 walking deads a third into the game. Which is a shame, because it is rather fantastic otherwise.

you don't have time to enter any sidewalk. Explore the garden, but then restore from the beginning of the level and go straight to the tree with the plums, then go straight to the tree with the plum, eat plum, go to the statue, take key, open door, go to the barn, take crank, go to the door and pass under the spider web. Time flies...
I have started chapter 3 over 5 times, I went to the tree, ate the fruit, got the key, opened the door,went to the barn and got the crank. I made it back to the web in enough time ( Jack was still going fast from eating the fruit) but the spider web still gets me every time! >:(
Ok i am now stuck on Chapter 5 i have the lantern,handle,stone and book.
Everytime i try a code in the wall i fall in the trap door and get killed. I explored everywhere i could think of.
i even found the tunnel to chapter 6 but i think i am missing something from this wall am i right.

there are several doors which lead to underground chambers. (e.g. from the start of the chapter to the north). Look at the wall paintings. Some of the hieroglyphs were put in a cartouche (ornamental frame). You will find only two different combinations that match in length

Are you still on an earlier version of the game? Following an email discussion with Zargblast it became obvious that some PCs ran the timer too fast to be able to complete the chapter, though I had done so on 2 different machines and I am not the quickest gamer in the world (in shooting games I never survive very long!). Also I do not understand why the timer runs at different speeds on different PCs (see my ealier post above).
I decided to update the game with a slower timer and a couple of extra hints to help gamers understand what they need to do. A patch is available to update the game to version 1b (see my post on the Completed Games thread). In this slower version I can complete the chapter with time to spare!
I'm sorry that so many of you seem to be having trouble with this chapter.

I opened the door and oiled the mechanism at the dam, but when I picked up the oil, I lost the crank. It is not in my inventory anymore. Must I find something else? Or is this another dead end? I have in my bundle: oil can, magic mirror and the lamp.
I suppose I have to stop the water so I can stop the clock and the pendulum, because it blocks the way over the wooden boards

I am surprised that you lost an item when you picked up another one. If you are still holding something when you pick up something else, the cursor is in the form of small glowing version of the item and you have to return that to the bundle before you can select another. I have tested the game several times and have never lost anything (except for the bug in Chapter 1 which I have now fixed). If this post is not the answer and you really have lost an item, can you please send me a personal message with the precise details of what happened so that I can invesigate it more thoroughly.

I have started over, started in the middle, started over, I watch the spiders, read the plaque, eat the fruit, get the key, go to the shack, get the handle. I have turned the water on and off, and sometimes not, got back, and the web is always the same. I have the patch. I always arrive with time to spare, but the web never changes. Please help. the capricorn in the lower left is in the wrong position. remove it, then move all tiles one position towards the lower left corner, except aquarius, the tile in the lower right corner.
put the carpicorn in the open space above aquarius.

have found the cloak and have the mirror, so I can defend myself against the dragon king, but it is a tie game. I cannot move to the big doors in the middle of the room and the dragon king cannot hurt me.
I am still stuck on chapter 5 can't figure out the riddle on the wall. I read the notebook.

I cannot reach the west side in the dungeon.
Turning the water gate will result in two possible
passages: North or south. No way to get west.
I guess the exit is west of the gate, judging from the map in

you can't open that door from that side. that door can only be open from the other side but not until chapter 6 and your not missing anything i had only those 2 items at that part of the game.

Good luck everybody. I had to quit. I accidently deleted my saved games, and when I restarted, reading the book in chapter one doesn't deter the ghosts anymore and they keep getting me. Good game. Maybe I will try again some other time. Thanks for all your help.

1. I found not a single item here. Did anybody else?
2. Now I am in front of a decorated door. The close-up view shows a dragon and five buttons. There must be a hint somewhere about the sequence to push them. I do not want to try all 120 combinations, and it is not satisfying to just to click around

In the city, go up the stairs to the right. Next screen right and down. Next screen right and up, next screen up. You will see an area with a ruin of a house to the right, where you can enter through a rounded door frame. Enter and move the cursor along the inner wall to the left of the two squares. It should change to a hand cursor. This is the cloak of invisibility. Wear it and the kids do not hassle you anymore

You have to get by first and enter the right and then the left door to get an item and some clue how to kill the monster. The monster has very good hearing, if you are invisible but step off the carpet and continue walking, he will kill you. On the spots where the carpet is torn go step by step, waiting at least one second between each step.

I am in chapter 6 and have been wandering all over the caves, doors open and close so drawing a map sure doesn't help. How do you get out of these caves?

When you hear the clock, some passages open and other close. Go to the place where there is a scaffold. The cursor changes first to an eye cursor. Go to the right. You will find a door with "Danger" written on it. Wait or go forth and back, until the door vanishes. Enter the next room. You can't go back to the caves from here and don't need to.

i got the key and read the notes about a magic talisman i am guessing that the mirror is the talisman but i don't know which spot to stand at in the hall.

The mirror is the talisman. The queen is the queen of the night, yes? Follow the carpet to the first torn section and make your way to the green tile with the moon symbol. In the inventory, change the cloak with the mirror as soon as you see the reflection of the monster in the mirror. If necessary, turn a little bit to the left or right. After a few shots, the dragon king will kill himself.
Thanks for the help sthomannch. I now realize I didn't get the book and the stone in chapter 5 ( I do have the mirror though ) do I need them to get out of the caves and go on?

i am actually surprised you solved the riddle of the phoenix without the book because you only need the book which gives clues to how to solve the riddle. which you must of solved if you got the mirror.

I solved the Sphinx riddle without the book, which I found later, simply by looking at the paintings in the tombs.

My experience agrees with this (although I'm not sure I've really seen the web small). I patched version 1a, and it almost seems like it's worse than it was before. I get back to the web and about one second later the speed effect wears off. The sequence I follow is:

I previously opened the gate, gone to the barn and gotten the crank. Starting at the tree I eat the fruit, run to the barn (down through the gate then left all the way to the left end, then down to the barn) crank off the fountain (I understand that this is what makes the web small), then run to the web (exit the barn, left, up, right to the gate, through the gate, right then up to the web).
Is there a better way to do this?
My sequence was:

From the start go straight to the statue, take the key and unlock the door. Go to the tree and get the fruit. Go through the door and go south past the gazebo (on the left side). Then keep walking left to the shed. Take the handle and return the way you came. So exit the shed and walk to the right. Past the gazebo to the door (on the left again). I noticed that this one is faster than keep walking near the wall. I never used the cranck, only took it to use in the next chapter. I think it takes to much time to play with the water... ;-) )
The spiders are almost done but there's just enough space to crawl under.
I have the complete sequence written (including the maze parts) as part of the walkthrough. If interested, let me know, I'll PM chapter 3.

Well, of course I read that, but the explanation was seriously flawed.

(1) "go straight to the tree ..." one can't go straight snywhere in the garden, and to get to the tree from the beginning requires navigating practically the entire maze. (2) "take key" why not get the key first? and open the door as well? (3) "got to the barn, take crank, go to the door ..." what about using the crank to turn off the fountain? (4) " ... and pass under the spider web" but that's half the garden away!
so that's why I asked the question. I don't think the patch helped at all.
After you have explored the garden and know which maze to take to get to the tree of course you need to do that is there is no other way. Then you continue to the tree etc., it may make more sense to go get the key and handle first but that is not the sequence that the game maker wanted, so in order to get pass the web that is the way you need to do it. I hope this explanation helps. :)
The problem presented by the designer is made clear by the comment when first seeing the web:

The secret of success is to get to the web with the handle as quickly as possible. The reason for following the sequence below is because it is the quickest way to to it. From the start, walk directly to the Regal Plumnon tree (with purple fruit), eat a fruit, run to the statue and take the key. Before closing Jack's bundle, take the key and click it on the gate. Go through the gate and run to the shed to collect the handle (you do not need to use it on the tap - turning off the fountain has no effect on the web) run back to the gate and on to the spider tree. You should reach it with just enough time for Jack to slip underneath it.
I hope this will help one or two of you.

I have been walking around in circles in this maze and have not found anything new. I tried making a map of this level but it is hard. I read on one of your spoilers about using the stone helps make you through the maze. I can only toss the stone which rolls a 1,2 or 3 how does this stone help.

sholson when you enter the castle go straight to where the statue of the man holding the sword is. Turn left, turn left again and follow the path to the room with the fireplace, you will find the lantern there.

I have been seaching for hours in the desert for these stones. I saw the hint about looking for it, but still cannot find it. Can anyone tell me exactly where they are?

These stones are not in the desert. These are the stepping stones of chapter 4.

The stone in the desert can be found when walking straight to the right from the point you entered the chapter. You'll see a statue and a tombstone together with some junk. On the pile of junk is a stone you can take.

The buttons represent the regions of the kingdom. In the book Geographica Arcanum behind the desk on the left side is a picture on page 3. It says:

What room are you talking about? I entered the room that was barred before and that opened for me after the bell rang. Its next to the door with the keep out sign in red on it. When I enter this door there is no pile of junk but only a heap of rocks that he says, "here are more of those rocks." I am confused.

I thought that you already reached the room with the clock. There are more doors, and they open and close at different times. After the first door opens, you have to find other, locked doors and wait until they open. Do you need a map?
Well, I hate to say it, but I've given up on this game. While it is beautiful, I have been trying to get through the triple maze for three days now, and nothing. i tried following the walkthrough I found, but to no avail. The stone makes no sense. I'm done. I never give up on games, but this maze stuff has gotten really old. Sorry Elen. You made a pretty game, but the puzzles are just too frustrating for me!
