I've gotten into the computer, understand the secret message. But how am I supposed to get the rope if there is one? I believe it has something to do with sharpening the knife and cutting the cord in the room?

For sharpening the knife: What did people use in the old days to sharpen things? A grindstone...and look outside for a suitable substitute.
The "rope" is in the bedroom. Look carefully for a brown object that sticks out.

Gotcha, I think I used the knife on EVERYTHING but the marble steps.

No prob, lemme know if you need any more hints, this game is very long and tough. There were also a few parts where there was no way in hell i could've gotten past them without the walkthrough.
