I forget the exact details, which is quite sad given I just completed the game two days ago.  I remember I had to distract Alex somehow so that he left the couch.  Try talking to all the band members to see what they say, as well as the fired band member.

I have the scissors, blank paper, song, signed book, empty bottle and all the items from earlier in the game.  I have no idea what to do next.  The guy in the park wont let me kidnap him without a ransom note, but I don't have a pen to write one.

Generally, ransom notes aren't handwritten because handwriting can be traced. Maybe you should find an alternate method of getting words or letters onto a piece of paper.... for example, words and letters are printed in newspaper.
