Sammy's quest - poisoned rat!

I got stuck on the painting scenario and thought I'd check here for clues. I've just poisoned the rat. So guess what - I've just read that you're not supposed to poison it!  Does it matter that I did? How do I do the painting?

I don't think it matters if you poisoned the rat, as for the painting - you make the paint by mixing oil, flour and then adding some colour - try looking near well for that.  Then you need a palette - maybe you have picked something up that you could use, then you have to put something down on the floor so you don't make a mess. You will also need to look round for a brush and ladder

How do I get the broken sword piece down from the wall?
