Title: Stuck in A Night to Remember
Post by: Isxek on Sun 26/07/2009 02:12:04
Hello, I'm currently stuck at this part:

Spoiler
I just got imprisoned by Victor, but I was able to free myself with the yellow/gold key inside my cell. What I can't work out is how to get to the cave at the bottom of the ledge when I go outside. I only have the stool leg, the cane, some journal notes, and the rusty knife thing.

How do I go to the cave then? Is that really the way I should go?
[close]
Thanks for the hints.

Isxek,
Spoiler
you really need to examen your cell somewhat closer again

...
And yes, you were going the right way.

Well, I've already examined all I can.

Spoiler
How about this then - how do I sever the "connectors" on the chains? I've been trying to do that with the rusty knife thing but it's not working.
[close]
If I get that, I can probably move on.

Thanks again.

You haven't examined all you can:
Spoiler
Still you've overlooked something. Hint: maybe close your cell door first while in the cell. After that you are able to continue with the "connectors" on the chains problem...

Spoiler
I got the brick from the wall which helped me get the chains...Now I need to get to the cave down below.

Thanks! :D

Also stuck:

Spoiler

I've escaped from being tied up in the white room. I've read the dead guy's journal, Victor's journal, have visited every room and I also have the diagrams. I can't find anybody in the mansion.
[close]

What next? Just a hint please.

Spoiler
I'm in the same spot as Isxek, I think I'm supposed to do something with the chains to get to the cave, but I've tried everything I can think of. I don't mind hints, but I would like a direct answer please.

Hello Arj0n - I need one more hint:
Spoiler
So I do have the chains now. How do I use it to climb down the cave? I don't see where I can attach it to go down.
[close]
Hopefully I can move on after this. :D

Isxek,
Spoiler
you will need to attach the chain with something already used before.

There isn't much in the room so you have to use what you've got:
Spoiler
Search the body to find a knife.
[close]
Then use the items in the room:
Spoiler
Use the chair to flip it and use the knife to take a leg off. Use the body again to stage a scene and use the door to draw some attention.
[close]
To make sure you can get out:
Spoiler
Use the leg on Victor to knock him out and leave the room.

This is annoying me now, because I feel like the hints are staring me in the face

Spoiler
I can't seem to attach the chain to anything in my inventory or to anything in the area, and so I can't either jump across the gap, or abseil into the cave
[close]

Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

You should
Spoiler
stick something solid into the pile of rocks, something to attach the chain to

if I remember that correctly...

You're right with the rusty object (cane) and the indentation. But you need to really look at the indentation first, then act..

That's quite a rouphly made part of the game in my opinion,
Spoiler
in the servant's room (a rom to the left on 2nd floor) you would find some papers, which describe a cane (rod) that unlocks secret door. If you already took and read those papers from your inventory, you may then click somewhere at the boxes (not sure where exactly) and Nathan will find a cane. It serves as a key to be put into the hole to open the passage.

EDIT: Oops, didn't notice Leon already answered, sorry.

Of course we can help. That's what this board is for ;-)

I'm not sure what you're trying to do though or where you are in the game. Can you tell me a bit more what's in your inventory and what you did/see the last few scenes?

Spoiler
Did you visit the secret passage already and you've managed to get out?
Did you make your plan in the kitchen?

That's often enough to get you going. And it's a start, the rest will follow automatically. Just play a lot of adventure games and you'll pick up the language pretty quick.  ;)

Right, when in the kitchen...
Spoiler
... there's a board on the floor (on the left side). Take it. On the worktop you can find a knife to use as a 'pen' to write on the board.

That should help you further.

Tell it to my mother. She thinks I'm just wasting my time playing adventure games.  ;)

Regarding this game and another I played recently, I couldn't read a lot of the dialogue in different colors. White I could read but others were a big issue. I was playing in a small window but I suspect that isn't the problem. I've played many AGS games before and don't remember having this problem. Anyone experience this or know what may be going on? Thanks.

Do you play with a LCD screen? Often it can be the angle of the screen that changes the visibility of the dialogues. I can't remember having a problem with this...

I've got a CRT using 32 bit. The graphics are crisp and I can read white font no problem. Maybe I need to play in a full window which I'll try.

I remember a few people expressing concern about the color of the font, which I now regret not listening to.  What colors in particular are hard to read? I'm guessing Jacques'?

Had trouble with all colors but white and not just your game. I think it may be a combination of color and font type. It's as though some of the font/color overlay melds with the graphics so parts are illegible. Finished the game though and it was well done.
