I know there are dozens of walkthroughs, but I can't figure out one thing.
At the beginning of the game, once you board the ship and it takes you up to the terminal above the wreckage, you have to get into one of the space pods up there, after the guard gets out.
For the life of me, I cannot do it fast enough. All the FAQ's say that you need to click on the pod as soon as they stop talking. I do. In fact, I have the hand icon all ready, and on the right spot, so I can click immediately after they are done. Still, they shoot me before I get anywhere near it.
If anyone has any insight on what I am doing wrong, I would appreciate it.
Might be a bug introduced by playing it on newer, faster computers? Are you playing the game in Dosbox?
You are correct. I researched it the other day. I was playing with VDM sound, and the game ran fine, and smoothly, but I read that with a pentium 4, there are several things that are virtually impossible to do in sq4.
If anyone else runs into this, the best work around I've found was a pack of game saves that start you after the impossible puzzles.

Space Quest 4 has bad problems with newer computers. You have to download something to slow your system so it runs the game slower. Also, set the gamespeed at the highest, this may help.

This guy has made several unofficial patches for Sierra games. There's also a patch for the CD version of SQ4 which fixes several other issues as well.
