I'd like to request some hints on Wages of Darkness, please. :)

I'm currently stuck at the beginning. I've tried

throwing the rope into the opening, but it falls back to the grate. There's pretty much nothing for me to hold on to here, since the tunnel wall is slimy and slippery, and so is the grate. Where should I go? What should I do next?

moving the vending machine? I can't seem to budge it with anything (chair leg, grappling hook, rope). I've found a couple of coins, but I'm not sure I can use them.

Collect all the coins(9 I think)use them all in the vending machine then use the stick to push over the vending machine.
