I can't figure it out either, and all of the walkthroughs I seem to find are for the non deluxe verison of the game. ???

You need to use the sign outside of the visitor center.

I also have looked and cannot find any walkthroughs for the deluxe version,
I have gotten fairly far. You must get the sign outside the visitor center and use it on the tree in the forest.  After that, that is where I am stuck trying to get the shaman to bless the amulet.
