Title: Wheel of torture
Post by: SuperDre on Thu 30/07/2009 18:06:07
Yes, I'm stuck...
Spoiler
It's the 4th room, the one with the red eyes and I've already lighted all the torches except the last one, I've got the yellow stones, tried to do stuff with the skull/cleanbone, I do see al the yellow stones are in circles, but I really haven't got a clue to what I need to do. It's just like the room before, which wasn't logical to me too but I just kept doing it until at one time it broke the door, still have no idea why..
I've got a feather, bone, stones, kabilem (or whatever it's called) and torch. I went back to the water and talked again with the gargoyle, but I still haven't got the faintest clue.. And I don't like it grrrrrrrrr...

The red-room puzzle invovles talking to the 'gargoyle' on the fountain in the previous room.  He'll give you a riddle about how to solve it;  Though I allowed people to "force" their way through since maze/riddle-esque puzzles can generally be really hard for people; D:

Spoiler

You've probably done all you need to do in the last room for now.  Your character is just scared of what might jump out at him.  He doesn't want to light the last torch till he absolutely has nothing else to do, and maybe feels a little more prepared....

So for now, your next objective should be trying to get the "Staff" door open...
[close]

Spoiler

There's an easily missable "hole" in the wall in the first room.  Generally your character obscures it when you first enter and it can be difficult to see against the blue background even after that.

And stuck again...

Spoiler
room with the forrestnymph, already freed the other contestant (seashore) I've got feather, torch, stones, yellowstones, bone, skeletonkey, dagger, flowers, rope (from seashore), talked to everyone anywhere, tried to combine everything. My guess is I need to get the 'bonemeal' to the contestant, but no Idea how/what

There is still ...
Spoiler
.. a bottle to find. It's at the seashore where the other contestant was.

Also..
Spoiler
..did you give the mirror to the contestant?

Still no luck..

Spoiler
No bottle to find at the beach, only thing I found out at the beach is throwing the yellowbeans on it, but it was complaining about it too hot, guess I need the extra rope from the lady to get the branch over it, but no idea how to get the rope (I'll propably have to get that mirror (which I can't find, and the only thing as a mirror would be the stream, but no idea how to get the guy to the stream)), I guess it must be something with pixelhunting because for all I know I've tried everything that I can think of

edit:
Spoiler
well I see the bottle, but still I can't get the needed rope to get to the branch

It's indeed the rope you need and you indeed need the mirror. To get that, go down to the room with the ladders and look at the wall on the right. There's a small hole....

When you've seen what you can get there...
Spoiler
Walk back to the left and talk to the gargoyle. Ask about the secret door. Ask if he can help you and ask about the secret door again. Then he'll tell you about the skull.
[close]
To open the secret door:
Spoiler
Use the bone on the left eye of the skull in the fountain and the door will open. Walk inside the cave and talk to the cage.
[close]
The get the mirror:
Spoiler
Use the fairy of health on the mirror when looking through the hole.
[close]
Then to get the rope (which you figured out already):
Spoiler
Give the mirror to the contestant and you can take the rope.

Hmmm.. that's a bit difficult if you already used the item first.......  So I guess I have to load a savegame before I used the item.. damn, that's annoying..  thanx, I'll try it
Spoiler
even though I never saw a mirror in the studio

I'm not sure what you mean here? You don't lose the fairy, do you?
Spoiler
And the mirror is standing below the door.

Spoiler
Yes I already gave the fairy to the contestant on the beach
[close]
And I really don't see any mirrors anywhere...
Spoiler
If you mean in the last room on the left, the one where you find the yellowbeans, It's still got the dark cloud with the red eyes, and the studio (which is behind the little hole in the staffroom) doesn't have anything either or at least it's also still dark with only the vase visible

Ah... I haven't tried it the other way around. If you can
Spoiler
get rid of the fairy before getting the mirror
[close]
you've discovered a serious dead end...
I'll try that now.

[update]

Not really. If you give the fairy, you'll get a rope. You can use this to get the mirror. You can get the rope at the second contestant again, but it's kinda useless now.

Damn.. Found the problem.. Just tried it with a clean version (only unzipped it) and started it, and then the first screen also appeared correctly (before I only had one 'golden' piece in the right lower corner)..

when I set the graphix driver to directx9 it all starts to go wrong.. damn that's very annoying and a big bug..

[wrong]but being able to use an item (and loose it) which is needed to get another item that's a gameplay bug...[/wrong]

Leon thanx for helping (I propably wouldn't have needed the mirrorhint if it weren't for this big bug)..

[update]
yeah I found that out too, I couldn't remember what I did to give the item to the contestant so I reloaded where I was before, and then tried it with the rope and it worked.. Just when I tried it, I wanted to update my post, but you already found the solution too.. hehe.. So no deadend there luckily..

pffff... I'm too annoyed to even figure this out now, but how in the hell do I
Spoiler
kill the chicken... I already tried the seeds on the beach, but it's way way too hot for the seeds to survive..

What chicken? You help me here... ;-)

SuperDre
[hint]
before you light the last torch, put the seeds on one of the pillars in the room left of the dark room. Light the torch, get out and jump to the pillar at the upper exit (don't leave this room). Shoot the chicken (use the rocks from the inventory)
[/hint]

Then I'm still missing something else because I still can't light the last torch. Did you give eternal youth to the contestant already? Or did you kill him with the gunk?
Title: Re: Wheel of torture
Post by: sthomannch on Wed 05/08/2009 02:39:30
ah, "hide" not "hint"

Spoiler

use the fountain water on green gunk and get bonemeal, offer bonemeal to contestant

Then I have the next problem (now I know again where I got stuck... ;-):
I need to solve the riddle but none of my answers are correct so I'm sure I have to do or see something to get a sixth answer. But what?
Title: Re: Wheel of torture
Post by: sthomannch on Wed 05/08/2009 03:11:13
Leon
Spoiler

there is no sixth answer, you cannot win this game. Perhaps you can cheer up the gargoyle with a bit of music?

Darn, that's about the only thing I didn't try. Maybe because I can't stand that horrible music  ;D

Cheers!

pfff.. finally finished it...

Yay, at least one person cleared it!  Though it sounds more like a group effort here. xD.  I haven't been checking the forums very lately, sorry.

Congratulations on sticking with it for so long!  I would have given up myself days ago if I was in your position. ;D

I -am- working on improving this game and bringing it up to a slightly higher standard (So I can't use the excuse "not enough time!" anymore. :x); As I've heard a lot of people needlessly frustrated by certain elements in the game I never intended to be so extra frustrating.
A little late to say now that you've finished it, sorry again. XD

So All Input is loved <3.

Hmm.. Maybe it's a good thing I didn't add in that hint system so I could see people go through this.  xD

EDIT: By the way, I went to rather extreme lengths in making sure there wasn't any dead-ends while still attempting to include logical solution-alternatives.  Ex. The "small piece of rope" probably wasn't the -best- item I could have given you for the mirror's second solution, but at least it was there. ^^;

The 'dead-ends' where handled perfectly IMHO, with that I mean when you die you can restart just before you died, which I think is much better than having to restore..
And also IMHO the little piece of rope was a good solution so that was no problem, it's nice to have more ways to get something..

Sure can... it's a game from the MAGS competition (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=38144.msg504420#msg504420) and it's not in the database (yet).
