Something about this looks wrong to me, but I'm not sure what it is. I think it has something to do with the shoulders and arms as she walks. Suggestions welcome!

Peter Thomas

Most noticeable to me, the body (from torso up) moves from side to side, whilst the head stays perfectly still. It's very un-natural to move your waist and keep your head still. Realistically, her mid-section should barely move at all. No way we should be able to see that much of the green shirt...

EDIT: Also, the arms move, but the FOREarms do not. everything from the elbow down is static, and it's unusual to walk with that angle in your arm...

AGA: "Shush, FAG!"

Iron Pirate

Yeah, her head should probably bob a little. The way she holds her hands is kind of...unnatural. Like PT said, maybe move her wrists and elbows more, and I would suggest changing the position of her hands. Right now she's got kind of a karate chop action going on. Maybe make them a little looser, face them downward instead of sideways.

I like your style, too. Kind of Sunday funnies, with those sketchy ink lines. Very cool.
My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is. --Ellen Degeneres

also, her arms move with her legs, instead of opposite

here's a quick sketch, don't really know what you'll do with it

who animated it, may i ask?

hi Josh!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh my eyes

all valid comments so far.
she's walking like Donald Duck!  her hair should have bounce, and she shouldn't be slouching.

Here's a quick, very rough anim of what walk I had in mind for her.  don't have the time to do inbetweens now..

Someone who saw my "help wanted" spot on Adventure Gamers Underground. I think there's some promise here, but as you all noted, it also needs some work. I've passed on everyone's suggestions to her, along with my own. I will post the revised walk-cycle when she finishes it. Thanks everyone!

When her leg comes down in front of her, I find it looks like she's putting her weight on the hanging pantleg, and not on her foot.

New sample animation. Better? I don't like the swaying head motion. Any other suggestions?

kaaZ

good character design!
some points of critique though:
- in the second frame after her head swings away from the 'camera' she drops back...which seems wrong...
- some frames are blurry while others are sharp...
- The animation doesn't seem fluid...but maybe that's just the low animation speed...?
- her head sway is to abruptly to my likings...

Pantomime players are the root of all evil.

sped it up and took off the head and repositioned the animation frames, she'll have to add more frames for the head to move like that and it should be wicked subtle because you don't really swing your head from side to side when you walk [at least i don't, maybe i walk wrong]

the walk looks better in my opinion but as kaaz said, every other frame is fuzzy like it was transformed or something.

I also think there should be many more frames in this cycle to make it ultra smooth to go well with the quality of your backgrounds

Much improved.... only because it seems to have been traced over Eric's example.  She can't hope to improve her skills by doing that...
Oh yeah, and that head turn looks very ackward.

You mentioned that Mary should be of somewhat tomboyish quality, but I feel that she should walk in a more feminine way.  just an opinion.
