Now that the C:> prompt hasn't been the first thing that people see since for most people since 1995, maybe a more meaningful quit icon should replace the one in the default interface. It might help some noobs!

Heh, young whippersnappers, don't know they're born these days :p

You're right though, it hadn't even crossed my mind that someone may never have seen DOS... if somebody would like to draw a new quit icon in keeping with the style of the existing ones, I'd be happy to include it.

i gave it a try also:

EDIT: dont know if it fits the style very well

electric_hare

same basic idea as Proskrito (great minds think alike  ;)), but a bit more 'cartoony'.

Pumaman

Thanks guys :)

Now though you put me in the difficult position of having to choose one to use from those three, which are all really good. Anyone got any opinions on the winner? ;)

Proskrito

my vote goes to electric_hare's  :)

Dorcan

juncmodule

I vote for both...and ME...kind of: :P

proskrito deserves the vote. I liked it.
Veteran, writer... with loads of unreleased games. Work in progress.

proskrito's one is good, but maybe:

EDIT: made same size as others

I'd prefer the proskrito-elektric_hare-hybrid one made by juncmodule.
But as always, this is a matter of personal preference.

I've never been a hybrid before :)

I used the arrow to maintain continuity with the save/load icons, but I think that proskrito's door looks better than mine, so my vote goes for juncmodule too.

Ishmael

I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

<Calin> Ishmael looks awesome all the time

Heh actually I prefer the default icon to be completely graphical, without words like "Q", "EXIT", or "QUIT", because that won't be good if your game is not in English.

Erica unlogged

I prefer the juncmodule`s. It think it`s nice.

Perhaps while we're at it, we could have a set of a couple different graphics for the gui. It's not that hard...a theme here and there, and make a package out of it. If I could make my own for AQ2, I'm sure the more talented artists could use their skills for a little while, for the community. Of course, it's much easier for me to say, when I don't have to do the work.

Just out of interest, haven't people just tried to click the icons on ther top of the default gui, just to see what they do or are they just scared? what else do they think the icon is for ????

Maybe a new icon is needed for the scared people that might click on a monster that will haunt them for the rest of their lives, otherwise, one of those door things is ok by me,

I don't know, I was familiar with dos long before windows and computers long before dos, but still, trial and error is part of programming,  I guess this new generation will try anything else before C:\> ,

and btw, I only remember C:\   this extra ">" throws me right off course, what the fuk is that, j/k it, was an extra ad on later on in the piece for lame arses that didn't know where to type from. that was dos for dummy's
and as you can tell, i'm probably pissed after drinking on a friday night, but i'm still deadly serious, have the door, it works for me

EDIT: actually I remember (well i don't remember) some code you coud type in that allowed you to see the path you were in, I thought that was so cool, it was something like $g$p or something else, it'll come to me later, it might have even added the ">" but the n some fancy DOS version came out where you didn't even have to type that in, boy were we spoiled, and windows, there were plenty of operating systems that tried to be wysiwyg before windows, but no one else took off and bill gates got rich the c*nt,

But it's funny that no one remembers that he started dos, everyone thinks windows took over dos, but it was gates that is responsible for both, so basically windows is a higher version dos like AGS is to AC

Edit 2: And yes I remember the Vic20 & C64 and the Early Apples, I think The 2c was the first I mucked around with and was much above the c64, but I love the C64,

what are we thinking with the internet, we are just not cool anymore

I like juncmodule's, but I think that it makes the icon bar rather overloaded with arrows. So, I think I'm going to go with SSH's final submission (based off Proskrito's).

Thanks to scotch, electric_hare, Proskrito, juncmodule and SSH for your contributions (and anyone else I missed of course).

Just as I thought that I'd lost, I snatch victory from the jaws of defeat   :o (and other footballing cliches)! Fame and riches will be mine. I demand that CJ cut me in on 10% of AGS profits....  :)
