I thought this year's Ergos should be held separetly from the Rogers, and before christmas instead of in January, as the Rogers are.
So I'm gonna set December 20:th as a preliminary date. There will be no live ceremony, but a nice webpage presenting the winners.

Along with this site, there will be "The Ergo Review" which will be a compilation of articles and other funny facts and figures, highlights and memorable stuff from the year 2003. Pretty much like big tv-channels have around new years eve or so, looking back at the past year.

If you want to contribute with articles, comics or other stuff, just let me know.

And now to The Ergos.
The Ergos is pretty much like the Rogers, but deal with alternatives awards, with emphasis on humour. There are seven categories, and five nominations will be elected for each category. The nominées will be presented after two weeks from now, and after that voting for one of these nominées will take place.

The categories are:

1. Best quote of the year
Search through some of the IRC-archives (could somebody post links for these?), or just browse the forums. Pick a nice one-liner (or possibly up to three sentences; short is the keyword).
Send in entire quote along with author.

2. Best contribution to a graphical competition/activity
Select your favourite entry to any of the threads in the activity/competition board. Perferably a humourous one.

3. Leetest post
Which post violated the highest amount of forum rules? Which post contained the most caps and exclamation marks? Where could we find most misspells?
Only genuine posts are allowed, not ironically intended.

4. Most annoying delay of a game release
Which postponement of a game release has caused you the most annoyance and anxiety?

5. Most persistant advertising of a game
Who's been the worst pimp? Who's been hyping their game in the most annoying manner?

6. Best Avatar
It's up to you to decide. Who has had the best avatar image over the last year?

7. Most missed member
Members sometimes leave without a trace. Who do you miss the most? The members must not necessarily have left within 2003; they could have vanished earlier but not been really missed until now.

PM your nominations to me before the end of November. Any amount of nominations per category is allowed. The five most popular choices will be published for the final round. If there are not five nominations with multiple votes, I will select which ones will proceed.

Contributions to the Ergo Review should be emailed to

Good stuff Andail :) Didn't you have one for avatars last time? Or was that a different award thing?

:)

This looks like great fun. If you want somebody to help you with drawing the statue awards I am willing to lend a hand.

Hooray!   I seem to remember more awards too though, but my memory could be a bit hazy from my lurking days.  Didn't Barcik run something like this last time?

Yep, Barcik ran the Ergos last year. They were held at the same time as the AGS Awards, and so didn't really get much press because of it. Hopefully by holding them earlier this year and before the AGS Awards kick off, they will be a bit more prominent.

So send in your nominations, guys ;)

Matt Brown

didnt there used to be avatar and newbie awards, or are those phased out?
word up

Andail

Yeah, I changed some of the awards.
The newbie award seemed kind of hard to decide upon, since there are so many new people now. Also, those who joined in early 2003 are hardly newbie anymore, and that award would be close to just "member of the year" or something like that.

I skipped the best avatar category because that wasn't really very crowd-pleasing, so to say, or spectacular enough.
If you have suggestions for changes, tell them now before people start voting.

Oh, and Barcik, I hope you're interested in helping out this year too. Give me a pm if so.

As a person with experience ( ;) ) I have a few suggestions.
Firstly, the "Best Quote" doesn't work. I know it - I've tried. No one quote will get enough votes for there to be proper voting. You'll end up with 15 quotes each with 1 vote, or so. Instead, we need something like a general speech. For example, last year the "winner" was "RPG Creator pimping his game", instead of merely one of his "5493945943 Rooms!" one-liners. This year, possible examples include the recent "WanderLady upset about JC/CJ joke", or perhaps the older "Helm preaches about the happiness in creation".
Secondly, the second category, has the potential to have the same problem, due to the very wide variety of possibilites.
And lastly, yeah, I'm surely in it too!

I wonder who'll win the fifth award.... (look signature below)

Barcik, the reason I changed that category is simply that it wasn't very exciting or entertaining last year, when the nominées were pronounced like "RPG-creator for his ramblings about his game" or that hippie or whatever.
People could probably have cared more which of them won, truthfully.
To see a direct quote holds a comical value, and if I don't get enough suggestions with multiple votes, I'll just select them by myself.

No best n00b award? That has been the only reason I've been helping folks out in the Tech Forums! Sod that, then!

>:( >:( >:( ;)

Maybe you could have a "best contribution" to each of the forums. Can DGMcP's tech support go unrecognised?

Best drama interactive movie would be nice too :P

My legacy lives on, even if I can't access the internet right now. Told you I would screw up. My printer has knocked my modem for six, and it won't reinstall. Bugger.

Can we nominate Run Hot again?

Andail

Of course, you can nominate most everything.

Please send in more nominations, so I won't have to decide for myself

m0ds

Awwwww I still think an avatar one would be good :p

And, the sexiest forum member, lol. Was it a poll on the website or was it in the Ergo's last year; "Who would you most like to sleep with?"

LOL

DragonRose

It was a poll on the webpage.  I think Evanwolf won, but I'm not sure.

I also was hoping for an avatar category.   :-[

Andail

erh...allrigh, lets replace sexiest member with avatar then.

Those who already nominated for sexiest member will get a cake sent home by the ergo comittée
