My experience posting here about game making has been great! You have all been helpful answering my technical questions and promotional questions. However I am still being harassed by some members, which through my direct responses to them, brought my thread to a close in the Production area. I want to talk about how they behaved without turning into a flame war, so if you post here, do so with NO emotion:

I started posting at Tierra's forum. My thread was not moderated and to nobody's suprise it was people flaming me, and me flaming back. I was banned and e-mail the moderator Erpy asking "Why?".

I decided to post on AGSforums because people on Tierra's board were expecting a Christmas demo, and since I was banned could not talk to them about it. So I stuck it on Kazaa and decided to move on. I posted that here and said if you want to see what's going on check the website cuz that's the new base of operations (not Tierra's message board).

Here my thread was moderated and deleted and restarted and flamers posts deleted but it's really too much to ask a moderator to deal with my personal fans AKA flamers. Now I have e-mails from Bryce (Muzlak) and Erpy threatening me with the following:

- adding my e-mail address to spamlists
- signing me up for services
- telling geocities I am spamming them
- basically making it their fulltime job to promote my game by harassing Jodo

If anyone wants to see these e-mails they can. If Erpy doesn't want to receive e-mails from me asking him why I was banned, he shouldn't be a moderator in my opinion because this is simple correspondence. If Erpy had not posted on my thread in AGSforums I would have appreciated it, but he brought all the complaints he had with me to this forum. I don't care if he doesn't like my way of promotion, or if he doesn't like my style of characters, or if he doesn't want free porn e-mailed to him for the rest of his life.

I deleted half my address book which I use as a mailing list to keep my fans updated, so you won't receive an e-mail from LBCBR2004 if you don't want one.

Please move on if you are not interested in Laura Bow in Colonel's Bequest: Resurrection because that is why I post. If you want to address the past in this thread, go ahead but keep emotion out. Let's just discuss this.

Jodo, while I think many of the people in your game thread were out of line and took an argument way further than it needed to go what you have done now makes me lose all respect for you. It was extremely childish and I can't believe you would admit to it in public. The more sensible members of the community were giving you a chance, you have probably wasted it now.

I know it's really hard to do but just ignore whoever bothers you and ask a moderator to delete the posts [through PM or through Report This Thread To A Moderator]. If the posts are seen to be going against the rules of the particular forum you're in then they will be deleted.

And yes the whole "He hit me now I can rightfully hit him back" is not mature.

It's equally as immature as bringing an argument over from another forum as many people did from the Tierra boards, why would you sign up with AGS just to argue with someone?

Because I am getting threatening e-mails from Erpy and others. Hopefully they will stop e-mailing me threats.

Feel free to judge me, but if you spam my e-mailbox, I just add a filter and don't see any of the spam. It's really easy, but a bother, so I put the pain-in-the-ass they gave me back to them with spam they can call their very own. My opinion is nobody is perfect; everyone should be getting free porn by now.

In a perfect world maybe, but in this world if you 'jack me, how do I get my stuff back if I don't 'jack you back? Call the cops? They are busy. I can deal with forums, it sounds like OTHER people can't deal with the forums. The answer is not to ban me, or close my threads; delete the posts that are not related to my game, simple as that. You'll notice some blame me for annoucing the project too early, or some other excuse. It's always my fault. LOL.

I want to discuss my game with my fans. The flamers/Spammers from Tierra's board have made it impossible to do so here at AGSForums.

So the real problem is people leaving crap on my thread that is supposed to talk about my game. LucasFan even posted his game in my thread, and it was never deleted and I had to ask questions about his 'Joke Game'.

I started this thread to remove that pathetic excuse so this way, if anyone brings up the BS at Tierra Forums, I can show them this thread. Time won't heal this wound. These types of problems have to be addressed.

About the use of Kazaa: I dind't use kazaa so correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it has not file identifications, so if you used emule or BitTorrent you could give a link to your file without having to deal with the file hosting problem or the thread-blocking one, and everybody could access to it(downloading could be slow as it require you to be online, but it will be accesible). I hope this could help to solve this(and similar) polemic situation(s).

Agreed, BitTorrent isn't the best solution for distibution either but at least on par with Kazza. Either still relies on somebody hosting the file being online at any given time. However, there have been various offers to host your files and some web-based or FTP-based solution ought to have been used by now. However you want to distribute your stuff is your business but it is in your best interest to reach as many people as possible, I imagine.

The internet and its varying facets, such as forums, web-pages and e-mail provide us with a lovely connection to people all across the globe. Even without searching for it, the common man is subjected to numerous things which offend or annoy. The best thing to do is to ignore it. It is the solution most use for spam (i.e. ignore using filters, rather than replying viciously) and that would be my best advice to you at this time. If the others can't behave maturely and just let it be, you should at least do the same. I believe the AGS community would feel entirely different about you if your opponents were resorting to such ridiculous tactics and you chose the high road. Believe me, if you're being treated unfairly and subjected to spam-lists, etc., the community as a whole would gladly back you up. As it stands now, it would seem that we're forced to observe a shit-flinging battle among toddlers. You're welcome to handle this situation however you like but in a personal war such as this, why air your dirty diapers in public?

Thank you for your feedback! Kazaa doesn't work because it won't check if you receive a total packet. So if you have 4K packets, you can have any number of 4K errors throughout the file. However, we can get around that by adding a Recovery Record to the RAR file. On top of that we can use Authenticity Verification, so you know if you have a good file (because since I will be releasing the source code, you'll want to know if it's authentic).

However FilePlanet or Vamp3D could host an InstallShield setup file or zip so we'll go that route when the game is done. We are 4% complete! (According to MS Project, we are actually further than that because stuff is already done, we just can't check it off just yet.) If anyone has used MS Project or PERT to manage a project let me know cuz I have questions.

That's hilarious. I first disagreed with preventative revenge, but then I realized this 'Bush Vs Them' thing has been going on quite awhile. For us Americans, we know we are 'spreading democracy', but as Haiti shows: sometimes it doesn't work. And the Balkans are fragile. But we got dictators in court, Milo and Sadsack.

Anyway this LBCBR project is no different than other things on the Net. We are trying to produce something here, and I believe others find us a threat, because our graphics push pixels to the background. I hate pixels. I want so many pixels you can't see them anymore. Even 640x400 games are done 'by the pixel'. So with my 3D knowledge and 2D graphics knowledge I can put a 3D character on a 3D background no problem! Someone mentioned I should use a different engine but this AGS is the PERFECT ENGINE!!!

Here's why it's the perfect engine:
1. Save 3-D views as 2-D sprites for speed (3D requires power, 2D requires more RAM)
2. Make a scripted adventure game
3. Use current LBCBR game to fill in the blanks.

I don't want a total 3D game, but I want the detail of pre-rendered graphics. They look twice as detailed as painted graphics, because everything is a hierarchy. When one things moves, EVERYTHING dependent on it moves with it. This is important for realism. Drawing something and keeping gravity heirarchies and bone heirarchies and geometries in my mind is something I decided to let the computer do. It can 'draw' what I need better. 2D sprites of 3D stuff means I don't have lame 3D camera BS to worry about (like looking through a wall, or if somebody dies and their arm is sticking through the wall).

2. I use Flash and I would be upset if I had to use ActionScript to write this game. I could do it. But there is so much work that Allegro puts into AGS that I then utilize from AGS... LucasFan showed it! He made a joke of a game but it was fncking riveting. Thank you friends! It brought a tear to my eye I hope he's making a game too.

3. The current LBCBR is useful. Templates of the screenshots are necessary and screenshots of the game are necessary because sprites change and everything from the background to the foreground characters to the text boxes to items that show up in inventory are important. 3D game would open up a whole new axis. Time, Z, Y, Z...

Igor made a great New Years game, so check that out, because that is Flash. But I bet if Igor wanted to add a save feature or anything else, he would have used AGS.

and i HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt anyone sees your game as a threat because it is hi resolution. there are tons of hi res games that aren't "pixel by pixel" as you put it and everyone plays them

She's head of Public Relations so we can let her deal with the public while we work on the game. I have to agree with Colossal, though. Flamers only keep on flaming if they think the flamee is reading the flames in the first place (got it?). Just ignore them and they'll get tired after a day or three. Maybe a little longer, but it's better than dragging it out for however long this thing has been going on.

There is no real point to this thread, Whingeing will just make it worse.

if you release a demo put it on a website or don't even mention it, pleanty of people have offered to host it, and you haven't even responded to them.

Kazaa doesn't work the way you think, just cause you're running Kazza on your machine sharing the demo from your machine, doesn't mean everyone else will even be connected to the same server that has you on it, the chances are very slim, plus it would hardly be a popular file that anybody would have so it would be even harder to download.

Think before you post anything, I'm not flamming or bashing you, I'm just trying to give you some friendly advice, so my advice is to take this advice or otherwise, what DG said.

BTW, I mentioned already it was not their job to tend to spammers and flamers and tend to my thread. It is the moderator's job to do that, but it's not their job to do it. That makes a lot of sense! AGA has been very helpful. I'm not really sure what your post is getting at, except to address some personal defects of mine. No, it has nothing to do with the game. Nothing. Zero.
