Winner: Dualnames

This fortnight, entrants should write a story or poem with the theme of love. Interpret how you will (i.e stories about love for your goldfish are just as valid :=). Good luck everybody, and here's the trophy:

Oliwerko

Perfect topic, gonna have fun definitely.

I was so tempted I couldn't wait :D
Here it is:

ANGEL IN THE DUST

After all those years in sweat,
not finding what I wanted yet,
I guess it is time to forget.
I fell in love with someone I have never met.

In my cloying dreams I've kissed
someone who does not exist.
Someone concealed in the mist
a thought that long will be missed.

I've built myself a girl of charm
that only can do me harm.
I've built myself an ideal
that wound me 'round like reel.

I've watched myself as I squealed
as real world was being revealed.
Short-sighted with a nerves of steel
I kept rolling like a wheel.

From the hill of broken dreams
much faster than it seems
I rolled downw with shrieking screams.

If only I would've seen the danger
in falling love with the angel!
I could, but I didn't want
so reality wouldn't haunt.

-------------------------------------

Since then have passed many days,
in which I've tried to change my ways.
But what can I say by now?
it's harder than it seems, somehow.

I've created someone sweet
I hoped I will someday meet.
But now that I'm looking back
all images fade to black.

I've created someone, who will never live.
Now it is the time I should stop myself decieve.

My stubornness its fate now meets.
I won't find her in the streets.
It is time to face defeat,
to stop the same things to repeat.

With fog of tears in my eyes,
waiting for her to fall from skies,
I had to write what I felt,
as I saw my ideal melt.

The angel has now turned to dust,
as I realize what I must.
Love has turned into disgust
as my thoughts start to combust.

And as the fear grows stronger
I this day can last no longer.
What I've thought I had to write
as my thoughts start to ignite.

--------------------------------

Sometimes, listening to the rain
I can hear the angel slain.
I can hear her that she is near,
from sounds of water in my ear.

But seeing what has to be seen
My thoughts have now become clean.

Sometimes to me it occurs
that I remind of hair of hers.
Sometimes I catch myself dream
of how nice it would have been.

Sometimes I try to forget.
But I never do regret.

(Btw, is it possible to enter with more entries?)

Atelier

I see no reason not to enter with more than one (as long as you make it very clear which one you want to compete with). But... then it defeats the object of entering more than one. ;) If you want to change your entry half way through then that's cool as long as it's before the voting period.

Excellent entry by the way.

Oliwerko

Thanks  ;)

Anyway, I think it's pointless in fortnightly writing to have more entries, provided that there are no massive amounts of entries anyway. I was just wondering  :)

A Modern Romance

Nine times out of ten, that was what she had told him.  They had been sat behind the cinema, the yellowing, ageing brick work protecting them from the winds that battered to old building and the bridge which past over head.
They had spent the day chasing Amy's secrets and now he knew that nine of them were not even hers; just stolen stories, overhead tales and the fib which had come to replace sweet nothings.
She had cheated him of her past, she told him all of this.  He could feel her warmth next to him as he drove his hands deeper into the pockets of his over-sized coat.  He would not let himself slip, she was the shrew and he needed nobody.
He was fine on his own, he told himself.
It was true.  It always had been.
It was true.  It was.

Atelier

Short but sweet again, uncle-mum.

Just to let you know, there's now a week left to get any entries in.

I love what uncle-mum has written ( despite few typos- where/were). Simple, yet really got my imagination going. Well done!

Oddysseus

A Post-Modern Romance

Her skin is cool to the touch, like a tall glass of ice water on a smothering summer day.
Her hair is shiny and wiry and sharp, and it sings as the wind dances through it.
When she dances, her hips move to the music in perfect rhythm like a metronome.
And her arms flash in carefully calculated arcs.
And when her eyes meet mine, they hypnotize with their eerie red glow.
So what if she's a robot?
She's MY robot.
And she has all the right attachments.

I wrote this for my wife last year. Aptly named:
15 Years

What we've had;much good and some bad
yet joy and love far outweighs tears
as we continued to tack on the years

I still recall our first date
we were running behind and got there late
I don't remember anything about that show
but my thoughts racing and the sticky floor
"The Body Guard" on the ticket stub mattered not
we were so into each other that I forgot the plot

we tried for kids and got wed
digesting "how to books" and lived in bed ;)
after many terrible losses God blessed us
two beautiful children that are a meshing of us

you are a model mother and devoted wife
keeping us all whole and settling strife
pampering us when we are sick
encouraging us when we are weak
mending us when we are sore
we truly could ask for nothing more

when our kids have matured and gone
we will still not be alone
there will be no empty nest
because the friend I have left
has always been my best

No matter what comes we will weather
continued happy years as we grow old together
I love you deeply
Your loving husband

In North Dakota in late March, Jack Frost was having his swan song for the year. After a long, typically cold winter, the last blizzard of the season seemed intent on making an impact. Roads were impassible, stores were closed, and a large percentage of the small town of Rutmuffin was snowed in.
"FUUUUUU-" Jeremy shouted, stumbling in the front door.
His wife looked up from her Better Homes and Gardens magazine. "I told you it wouldn't run."
"I hate the cold. I hate winter. I hate North Dakota and I hate the US Postal service," Jeremy replied. "What ever happened to 'neither snow nor rain' and all that?"
"You know that was never actually their motto."
"You know what I mean, Sandy."
"Still," she responded, "it is a shame that the replacement part for our furnace would get stuck in this storm."
Jeremy was not amused by the irony. Something else was bothering him.
"Why don't you take off that damn Snuggie?" he asked curtly.
Sandy looked in shock. "It's warm! Plus I can read my magazine without having to adjust a blanket."
"You sound like one of those freakin' commercials," Jeremy snapped. "How incompetent do you have to be to not know how to operate a simple blanket?"
"Are you calling me stupid?" Sandy said, her voice starting to crack.
"No... no, it's just..." Jeremy trailed off. "I just think you're better than a Snuggie. I watch the people on TV and they just seem so idiotic, so typically American, and I've always thought you were above that."
Sandy's eyes started to water. "I know how you feel about them, and I want you to be happy, but try to understand. I got this thing from my mother for Christmas and it's really quite practical. You of all people should understand that."
Jeremy sighed. "I do. I'm sorry I yelled at you. I want you to know that I really do love you."
A grin creeped its way across Sandy's face. "You know... " she whispered, "there's another reason I'm wearing the Snuggie..."
"Huh? What's that?"
"I'm only wearing the Snuggie."
"Oh..." Jeremy heaved as Sandy's smile effected one on his own face. "Is there room for two in there?"

And they made Snuggie Love.

Oliwerko

Great job, ddq, that made my day  :)

Especially the collocation of being 'incompetent' in 'operating' a blanket  ;D

The days are her

"James? Can you bring me a fork?" she asked. She could be heard throughout the corridor oddly enough. She needed that fork though and she was reluctant to get up and get it.

"There you are, hon. Need anything else?" he smiled at her.
"I think I'm fine for the moment, " she said, and she faded her smile very smoothly. She wasn't really used to be served anyway.

"You feel like getting up today?", he smiled back at her, and he stared at the window..

"Perhaps," she replied.
"Can I have my morning french kiss?" she giggled.

"Can I resist that cuteness with which you just overwhelmed me?," he wondered back at her.

"James Drotiknson, shut up and just give that kiss, will you?", she demanded.
And they kissed. And it's not really worth describing kisses, because there's nothing to describe at all.

"Come now, let's get you up for your physiotherapy, " he said, and the mood was changed.

uncle-mum

This time around I shall be tipping my wink towards Dualnames.

Atelier

Gah, I should have started the voting 2 days ago! So now all entries are gathered in, voting can begin and will end on the 25th.

1. "Angel in the Dust" - Oliwerko
2. "A Modern Romance" - uncle-mum
3. "A Post-Modern Romance" - Oddysseus
4. "15 Years" - ashmc2
5. "Snuggie Love" - ddq
6. "The Days Are Her" - Dualnames

Good luck everybody!

Oliwerko

All of the entries were interesting, but ddq's wins by me, I really like it.

ddq

If my story needs a name, you can call it "Snuggie Love."
In any case, my vote goes to Oddysseus. Top notch stuff!
