SPRITE JAM: „Star Wars/Star Trek“ - WINNER ANNOUNCED!

Previous topic - Next topic

Tabata

Hello my dear friends,

I often started to think about the new topic, but always something came shoving in between.
Wherever I was, I saw advertising on posters, in shop windows or tv, even in the news it was worth a message.
If an issue is so intense represented, who I am to ignore it?

So let's give it a go with    and hope that some of you like the theme, too.

I want you to come up with a sprite that somehow is related to or about Star Wars.
It might be a known character (or more) from the movies, a robot (or more)
or even someone (that we do not know - jet), who for example wants to apply for a role in the next movie
or a disguised fan (or more), ...
It's all up to you and your imagination.

  Rules
Resolution, style and color depth of the sprite is not specified.
AGS-compatibility is preferred (just imagine that someone wants your brilliant sprite for his new game)
Backgrounds and animation are optional.

The competition will end on 02. Jan. 2016 at midnight (forum-time).

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU!

Also the trophies are already prepared and programmed for you:

"Now ~ for the fun of it ...

... aaand ...

...
go!"

Edit:

You can also go with characters related to Star Trek! (or both (laugh) )

“MAKE IT SO!”

Mandle

May the hype be with you...always...

I'm going to be seeing the new movie tomorrow with a group of about 20 people all in costume. I'm going as Obi-Wan, which is why I've been growing a white beard for the last month...Oh, alright...grumble...it's why I've been growing a beard (as one of my students so "kindly" corrected my wording).

People can check out the Star Wars Sprite Jam from back in May HERE if they wish, either for inspiration or if they are worried about unintentional repetition. (If you scroll down that page there is a collection of all entries)

I couldn't really enter the last one as I was hosting it, and I never did get around to making trophies (sorry) and Tabata's trophies are so cute, so I might give this one a bash if the movie provides inspiration...(No spoilers though of course)

There's no such thing as too much Star Wars!!!

Tabata

... arrg  ...

So sorry, I should have controlled the themes from earlier Sprite Jams.
How about expanding the theme for all those of you who prefer to do a different sprite?

Let's say it officially:
I will also allow (and like to see) sprites that are related to

Star Trek

You can choose it - including the option to use both

“Make it so!”

(laugh)

Live long and prosper!
Mandle, thank you for mentioning  and I am wishing you a lot of fun watching the movie and to dress up

Grok

I did miss the update to include Star Trek. Might do one of those too :)

Edit
And there we go :)

Tabata

YAY! Grok is starting with a SW-sprite that promises full action!

btw. no need to do another one, Grok but of course you are very welcome to add a sprite for ST, too.

Edit:
WOW!
During I wrote my reply a 7 of 9 already joined the party - coool!

Just got back from seeing the new Star Wars and:

MASSIVE SPOILER ALERT:
[hoide]What happens is that you walk into a large room with many seats and a big screen at one end onto which are projected still images one after another fast enough to trick your eye into seeing movement. Oh, and there is sound too.[/spoiler]

(Did I scare anyone with the fake typo: [hoide]? (laugh) )

Cassiebsg

Nah..... I just went and saw it yesterday, so am not afraid of spoilers any more... (laugh)

Yeah...lol I came home and did a youtube binge of all my favourite critics' spoiler vids that I've been cringing away from since Friday...Great feeling isn't it? (laugh)

Cassiebsg

Yeah, it's "be-freeing".... (laugh)

Anyway, getting this topic back on topic, before the Mods start pounding on us...

Lumpawaroo, Mallatobuck, Attichitcuk, and Gormaanda join us this Life Day for a Holiday Special!

Tabata

Aww – more great entries!

Now we can also welcome a Jawa from Cassiebsg
and several Wookiees with Chef Gormaanda from Scavenger.

Did you all see the cooking with Chef Gormaanda?
It's part of the Star Wars Holiday Special 1978: How to cook Bantha Surprise.
In case you like to take a peek, it can be watched right there  V

Fun Fact: I watched the holiday special way back in '78 when I was a kid. Even as a Star Wars loving little boy, I was profoundly disappointed. It may have been the first time in my young life that I'd ever experienced what a lousy, crappy placed the world can be sometimes. :=

Cassiebsg

I never got to watch this "gem", but I remember having that exact feeling when I watched Galactica:1980... (roll)

Thanks Tabata! For some odd reason I forgot what they were called... here's some back story to this character who ... spoiler alert!
Spoiler

"Shows" up in episode VII. In case you haven't noticed, he's a Jedi Master specialized in the art of concealment, and he was there when Kylo Ren... spoiler alert 2!!!!
Spoiler

...kills Han. This little Jawa, sensing a disturbance in the force, manages to save Han Solo from certain death using the force, and takes him out of the planet right before it explodes. All this will be revealed in episode IX, when Han Solo makes his triumph return (with his now half cybernetic body) just in time to save Leia, Luke, Rey and Finn from certain death at the hands of the evil Kylo Ren! (laugh)
Oh... oops... sorry, didn't meant to give spoilers to episode IX! :-[

And if you're asking...
"IT'S A PRAM!!!"

ROFL!!! Amazingly beautiful sprite, and that last line is so funny when said in the proper voice... Thanks for the wake-up laugh!

Mandle

And here is my entry...

BUT...

MAJOR STAR WARS EP7 REAL SPOILER ALERT:

(DO NOT VIEW THIS ENTRY UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY SEEN THE NEW STAR WARS MOVIE!!!)
Spoiler

I know this is obvious, but for transparency's sake:
This "entry" is mostly not my original work, except for the concept of the "joke", some edge-cleaning, some filtering, and drawing in the light-saber. The rest is cut-and-paste of course, so please take into consideration only the concept part...

Ponch

The Star Wars holiday experience wouldn't be complete without virtual reality porn featuring popular mind evaporator songstress Mermeia! So I found a minute (which minute? This minute now!) to make this:
[imgzoom]http://www.barnrunner.com/pics/misc/Sprite-Jam_-_Mermeia.png[/imgzoom]
I did my best to capture a bewildered Diahann Carroll in a clingy pink dress and a mop on her head doing her best to bring some sex appeal to a poor, toothless old wookiee getting off on VR smut while his grandson plays with his toys just a few feet away. Fun for the whole family! Merry Christmas, everybody!

I remember that bit: Such an...ahem..."interesting" direction for a special aimed at kids to take. I guess they thought they were throwing in something for the Dads? Or....hmmmm....it was the '70's: did Mel Brooks co-write perhaps under a pen-name?

jwalt

Paid a visit to the local Jawa encampment and picked up these stout fellows, just for this contest. I --  What's that, Tabata? Wrong movie? Oh, so these aren't the droids you're looking for? Sorry about that.

Modeled and rendered in Anim8or.

Tabata

WOW - guys, I love you for all the entries and postings

Hi, hi, hi - Mad did a Mon Calamari with a stroller - What a nice idea!  YAY!   Is it Admiral Ackbar?

Mandle, so if you didn't  come up with own sprites at the sprite jam but a jokes concept there might be the need to add a bit of explanation.Oh, and btw. do you count Stewie Griffin to Star Wars or Star Trek?

Ponch, that's great! Thank you for doing a world premiere of a virtual reality with sex appeal but a really average breast size in my humble comp. I am proud of you (nod)

And jwalt you offered some well done guests from Running Silence, the three lovely robots that I like so much (if I realized them correct)
Spoiler

In case I am correct then I am sorry, but you searched in the wrong movie. I can't remember of an appearence of those in Star Wars or Star Trek. That means we are in need of an explanation to know if they belong to Star Wars or Star Trek and what they ar doing there. (roll)

On the serious side, feel free to disqualify the image if you want. I will not be offended in any way.

On the other hand... I did do a bit of Googling to find the connection, and discovered this interesting site about Silent Running:

http://cyberneticzoo.com/not-quite-robots/1971-silent-running-drones-doug-trumbull-don-trumbull-paul-kraus-james-dow-american/

It has the following quote:

Los Angeles Times â€" Dec 5, 1977

……….The drones. by the way, proved to be director George Lucas' inspiration for his own stubby robot, R2-D2, a fact that he admitted to [Doug] Trumbull when he approached him about contributing to "Star Wars." Trumbull, however, turned down the assignment because he did not want to repeat himself by returning to another space opera…………..

Edit: And Googling Star Wars Power Droid reveals a certain cosmetic connection. The shape isn't quite correct, but the lineage seems viable.  (laugh)

Ahhh...mine is actually supposed to be one sprite containing two characters. I was hoping the joke would be understood by those who have seen the new movie (and know a little about Family Guy, especially the Stewie character), but perhaps I missed the mark (hamill...erm...no? Okay, fine!).

So yeah, just consider it a joke entry really. It was meant to provide a laugh, and if so: great, and if not: Oh well, maybe next time... :-D

Tabata

jwalt, I didn't know this facts about the drones. It was very interesting (good I asked). ;-D
And no – I won't disqualify an entry. I am happy for every entry that has been done and maybe ... or hopefully will be done.
Thank you for yours, jwalt.

Aaah, Mandle, so you have offered an insider joke?
No wonder I didn't understand. I haven't seen the new movie and what I know about that character from Family Guy is – ähem ... he exists.
Let me thank you, Mandle, for an humorous entry.

Aside of the comp I'd like to take the chance to send some wishes to my online family :-*
I want to wish you all a wonderful christmas without sorrows

Thank you for yours, jwalt.

So, all this body and fender work on a spare Silent Running drone, to morph it into a Star Wars Power Droid, goes for naught. ;)

Mandle

I'm loving the morph from SR to SW droid jwalt!!!

I hope no amputees were injured during the transition...

jwalt

Since my nefarious plot, to convince Tabata that my droids had something to do with Star Wars, was successful, I decided to give the Silent Running concept art droid a try:

Only, I think I mixed my movies up, again...

Anim8or model/render.

After the fact, I got to thinking that I have derailed Tabata's Sprite Jam with stuff that might be better suited to The Rumpus Room. I apologize to Tabata and everyone else for messing with what is, afterall, a serious competition.

Please consider the first image I submitted as my entry. I will now slink off and hide in the corner.

Edit:

Spoiler

@Ponch regarding Blade Runner - I'm guessing you already know that Douglas Trumbull, who helped make Silent Running, was also involved in Blade Runner. He was Special Photographic Effects Supervisor for both films.

@Mandle regarding morphing pains - I don't know about the amputees inside, but Gonk said it hurt more than Jabba's hot foot torture, poor guy.

WHAT?! First I've heard of such!!!

I thought these competitions were mainly a means to keep everyone interested and participating in the community...As well as continually honing their various skills...

If they ever get extremely serious things might get...erm...seriouser?

Tabata

A HAPPY NEW YEAR 2016 TO YOU!

There are still almost two days left to participate!  (nod)

You all made this an interesting and fun comp that I loved to host!  (nod)

My last official posting for this round is to proudly announce the winners and - like an award ceremony - to hand out my little trophies.

Without further ado my special congratulations go to:

Ponch and jwalt you both get a tiny R2D2 that shows your great 3rd place to everyone

Scavenger you deserve this tiny R2D2 that reminds all the people on your awesome 2nd place

and  * drumrolls *

Mad you conquered this tiny R2D2 that broadcast your stunning victory and thus 1st place to the world

Big applause for you all
and an extra one for our glorious winner,  Mad, who will take it over and start the next challenge.

... and now it is time for me to leave you -  live long and prosper

Ponch

Sweet! Third place is the best because it's where the cool kids hang out, unlike those teacher's pets who take first place (and their vile henchmen, the second placers). :=

This was a fun competition! :cheesy:

Mad

Thank you for all your votes and especially for this great competition,  Tabata!

I think, I've got a nice idea for the next one, that hopefully gets your creative juices flowing.
So keep a look out for that in the next few hours or so ;)...
