Burnout 3 had some crap music, but once in a while, Ramones popped up with "I wanna be sedated".. you can't believe how good it feels to cause mayhem in 100mph with that tune. I havn't experienced such joyful road carnage since I put "Another one bites the dust" with Queen on repeat whilst playing Road Rash.

Thank you.. and no I will NOT reinstate DNA ;D

I'm on a 56k connection here, I try to avoid downloading stuff as much as possible, that's why I'm nagging you people about it ;) Plus, no RAR-extractor in the world could save me with the demo problem..  ;D
#303
Vielen dank! Dang, a RAR-file. I can't open it myself ;) Any chance of a Zip out there?

Yes, the demo-source is gone, the whole source is not, but I really can't be bothered to slaughter it that much. Bah, I might aswell drop it and upload the source itself. No Demo-zips out there? Pretty pleeeeease? :)

Well, ILB is as back and online as it'll be for now. Sadly, my old computer started emitting smoke. Yep, smoke.. hence I am in desperate need for a zip of WKKR, the OpensourceVerbCoin (just the proper version, I can't bother with history) and the WTII demo (as in the non parser version).

Anyone that has these and don't bother upload them, or are friendly enough to point out mirrors of uploads allready. I recall someone mirroring the verbcoin but I can't remember who and can't find it within a search.

http://www.riotamot.com/ilb.htm - it is not much but it is something.

What are you implying?  :=

We have been discussing HL2 puzzle solving before and the phrase that will bleed in my cornias is this:

"Imagine taking a coin, and trying to unscrew some screws with it but it wont fit. Then whacking it repeatedly with a smiths hammer so it got thinner. Right, now you can unscrew those screws."

Needless to say, I'm paraphrasing, but I think the general idea of it came through. The cool part is that you could basically take any piece of scrap metal to make a primitive screwdriver.

But physics sschmysics; imagine when the AI card comes along, and the parser'll never be the same. Why smell corpses when you can interrogate people and make them tell where they hid the god dam thing instead. Ever spoken to a conversational bot? Imagine it being resonable and acting accordingly to basic psychological principles.

It is all about gameplay. Having a specific set of inventory objects may (and should) give a hint about the actual puzzle solving. A game where you couold basically pick up anything shouold focus it's game design in such a way that the aspects of puzzle solving is not inventory based or you could use several inventory objects in the same way (like picking a lock with a pin, fork, knife or bent spoon)

It seems that everyone wants to go back and reminisce on the past times, but nobody looks at the changes as a new opportunity to make new memories.

Amen! The golden days was when we forgave the gameplay simply because of everyone was trying to learn the engine and how to do things. We emulated gameplay without thinking it through, or made the games we remembered from our youth. But the community has matured immensly on a theoretical level, going into more indepth discussions on the aspect of a game and how to increase gameplay and entertainment value. There are games released now that surpass old classics in terms of gameplay and scripting yet they are frowned upon because the standards has risen and so has the bar.

And also, it has become bigger. The scene has changed and so have we. The golden days are also due to the fact that there was but a handful of people and everyone basically knew eachother, making the community more intimate. Therefor, many of the oldbies may feel disolate and lost, but were nothing but grumpy old geeks in our twenties. The community belongs to the newbies and they shape it into their own iamge. The best days is yet to come!

Oh, and thank you Czar, those words mean ALOT := I am back, but dead, and that will I be until I am revived...

You should see my book..

Someone said it earlier, and I agree. A film production company is a bigger chance of getting the cash rolling than gaming. Now, not that this isn't the future, it has been mentioned as the biggest new entertainment business ever, and people are making a buckload of money on electronic fun, but to establish your company, I still think you should focus on simply being a production company and make films. No advertising company shoots their own work. You can always expand the company to include other things later on.

There are a whole range of people, just like you that compose and share their work with their community. Some make their own, others specifically asks people for specific types of music. Some just took whatever they came across (read me) which was stealing, but the internet was also young ;)

I recommend you look up the ACR thread (if that's it's name), it is a sticky of people searching for specific types of work and offering specific types of work.

How do you make up a contingency plan for that scenario anyhow.

Also, the easiest way to avoid such situations is to never masturbate ofcourse, you filthy boys. And I do say "boys" because we all know girls never masturbate. Yup.

Nope Helm, my wc is a whoopin 5 kilobyte.. makes those bowel movements faster than ever!

I see two problems with the detective scenario:

1: police quest; where as the actual game and challenge would be to work as an actual police officer. This is kind of nice, gameplay isn't actually focused on puzzles but more on police work simulation. This can however be extraordinary tedious without proper documentation or simply bad gaming design (read police quest 3 and 4). But it is a way of eluding problem number..

2: conclusions and placing of facts. How much can you leave to the player when facing the role of investigator extraordinaire? Will the player actually solve the clues before the game does, thus being rather annoying or may the clues be to elusive? Making a game like this is likewise to writing a good detective novel; you all better see the clues and they better make sense in the end; but there must be some elements of revelation there too.

My .02: Colonel's Bequest! The best detective game ever since you are awarded your investigation, but the game trods along even if you are completely unaware of what's going on. Good way of tackling the problems above.

I was back about a week ago, but not until TODAY, have I set up my evil command post complete with dial up connection.

Beware..

Mittens was, as presumed, a travel into memory lane. It was very nice to meet the wonderous people of the midst once again. CJ with his dry and subtle approach to life. Farlander who in ever way represent the best parts of humanity - cheer, laughter and the best sense of humour I've come across. Chrille whose whole appearance, despite his nazi tendencies cleverly pointed out above, is a devil packed as angelic bliss. It is hard to see the gory creations in that mild temper. Adam who is simply a really good sport and mate. Petteri, who was very finnish, but in a good sense ;) And all other people aswell, Andail, AGA, Helm, Glod, Scotch who in comparison with Swittens was a whole new persona, Tom, the Americans, both really nice people even though I can't decide who dancest cooler. La Lore and Mrs. Glod we're also nice as possible, even though the spaniard found it amusing to gang up with Farl and starepsyche me... but ye can't outpsyche the psycho! Muahaha! And let's not forget Mods whome above all else masters the chill and cool of being Mods. Simply a great mate in every sense, and if I we're a female frog, God knows what I'd do.. Jetxl ofcourse, almost even chiller, and a lovely attitude. Loved the gift! Thank you so much!

Cheers!

That card game is ingenious..

Any Englander willing to DM? Dang, I do not have any d10's though..

The Staines way was chipping in and buying one. But if someone already has one, it's a bit unnecessary, anyway pure packingwise. But footy, yes!

DS: Anyone that has Cthulhu-rules? Ofcourse, you can always wing it..

Anyone had "relations" in Fable? This game actually FEATURES you marrying a wife and going to bed with her, and has yet afar as I know been flamed for this. Is this sex craze only premarital sex or what, because even if the Fable action is a black screen and the same recored moan on repeat for a while (though that might alter with your evil appearance. Evil being bad lay perhaps? Havn't played THAT much yet ;)) it is STILL SEZX0R5, as an ingame feature and I think you're even allowed to pursue polygami. Puritan warning!

..ofcourse, then there's the thing about marrying your wife, getting the dowry then killing the shit out of her thus inheriting everything belonging to her, but I think that actually got mentioned for a while.. or so.. as a feature of how open and functional the Fable world is.

Wow.

On the GTA discussion, I think both Andail and Helm carries a vital point. The biggest risk is the objectification and abuse of women, which actually is well presented, not only in GTA, but a vast load of games. This is also ofcourse a major problem of the entire entertainment industry, but I think it IS more crucial when combining it with violent acts. Helms point is also valid, there's many things we do, and ideas we have, but we seldom carry them with us through puberty, or rather, after puberty is over. And to hide childs from aspects of life aint that a smart idea. Any type of restrains is turned into perversion. But the reason we've seen gruesome violence, and acted it out in games, yet still don't mow down grandmothers with semiautomatics is that we're secure while experiencing them. Being in a safe and secure enviroment gives you ability and oppurtunity to deal with such extremes, and I don't think anyone disagree that sex and violence are the two greatest elements of catching our attention. If Tarantino says so, I say so ;) Even so, GTA was made by guys for guys, and sex is just sex. It is a simple fantasy, not unlike any type of pornography. The idea of simple, easy, no strings attached sex, or simply a good laugh, because how hilarious isn't sex in games in the first place. When it instead is placed into an ideal; the pursue of poontang, bitches and hoes and being a pimp - or even beating the bitch up; then it becomes a bit worrying. Irony is one thing, not being able to see through irony another. Still, I think the most outrageous thing about GTA is that it is so god dam boring.
