It's family owned.. the family you know. Nothing is more important than the family. Pay respect to the family, and the family will pay respect to you.

General Discussion / Re:Game theory discussion
Thu 24/07/2003 23:45:38
Nostra: I am still here, I just don't post much. Does anyone know what happened to MonkeySpank?

Thread: There's a rather interesting issue here. First of all, which was very cleverly pointed out, the implemention interactivity into art. In a way, it's always been implemented, the interpretation of work is a process made by the receiver, not the artist himself. We trick, guide and use all kinds of sceamish techniques to deliver a message; the message we want them to receive. However, every interpretation is unique, but mainly, they revolve around the intended. This is the essence of adventures in a way, we force the player to do as we planned, and guide them through it. Also, there isn't always a message, rather than an observation or similar, neverthelss it's there to affect, provoce, whatever. I think this is highly possible to implement in gaming, and I would like, just as much as I like to drop every single bit of artsy fartsy intellectual ideas and blow of zombie heads for half an hour.

But to move to another forum? Only if it's widened past AGS, and it will probably be. These forums belong to the users and they'll be what we want them to be. I am confident these kind of discussions can take place here, seriously. Sure, people could drop in making a joke of it all, not taking it seriously or whatever, still why not just ignore them. Don't ask for moderation help to remove it, let it be. Or confront them. Sure, I miss the ezboard era, especially back in early 2001, it was like a whole different bond to the users, I knew them, they knew me. Now I don't know noone, and I more or less lost contact with the ones I knew. But that can't be avoided! It's a fact, and to wine about is the act of an old grumpy wo/man with nothing better to do. There's alot of so called newbies here that have a very rational attitude towards the community and AGS, and I sure enjoy their company.

These forums are AGS and adventure related. There's tons of adventure related forums. If these game theory discussions deal with alot more than AGS and the way it may be used, it may belong here in the gen gen or in another forum. It really doesn't matter. I don't think it would be elitist either, we're not, if I understood it correctly, shutting people out - nor would it be a gaven for oldbies. There's alot of oldbies that doesn't want to have these discussions either... still, it would be nice to have it here, in the community were it spawned.

Aw shucks Pessi. I'll call you "det fege finn-fanskapet" from now on, if it's ok with you ofcourse...

I'll drink two..

Ink and a small brush. It takes some time to get used to. You may want to use a steel pen or something.

Basically, sketch the panels up with a rather hard graphite pencil, then ink ontop of it. When it's dry, erase the sketch. Scan as lineart/blackandwhite and correct ev. inking errors. Voila!

When it comes to alcohol, and I believe it will be a featured element, it'll be upright impossible to bring underaged people to pubs and similar, unless Andail knows some shady establishment somewhere. Beer may be wise to purchase in rather large amounts in Gbg. Food, if I recall, was available fairly close, but as in all smaller communities, it'll probably be a rather small variety of groceries and/or expensive. Food may be wise to mainly buy while in Gbg and smaller purchases whereever that shop was located.
#408
Heh, no worries. About 99.9% of the community didn't know that the idea wasn't new. It was at gaspop's forums, and there aren't many AGS regulars there. It's more like Chrille's own fanclub.
#409
Hah! Be careful what you say, or I'll whip out our Stanstead endurance project again!! MUahahaha..

Btw, perhaps we should continue that story. It was left rather in a cliffhanger.. or planedrop..

EDIT: Ok, tent roundup. Who brings 'em, who sleeps in 'em. I don't owe a tent, but I'll try to borrow/steal/make one. I'll be bringing the equipment needed to sleep in a tent, and I presume I will be. Others?
#410

Been there, done that, gave it up ;). However, there was a discussion regarding the matter at gaspop forums. You may want to check it out..

No, there isn't any more, just a test page. I thought copying Sin City was suitable for the concept :)

Now, I much rather wanted to show  THIS ONE but it also has a transparent bg, and looked quite horrid on our glorious AGSforums blue tables..

Pessi?! What are you doing here! Get on working on RF backgrounds!!!! ;)

We're having a national vote in autumn. I'm voting nay. Hopefully, so will the majority aswell. Problem is that the government strongly thinks we NEED the euro, so they try their darnest to convince each and everyone about how much we NEED it.

It's a rigged competition, if we vote no, it'll probably be another vote next year :(

Andail: We are supposed to arrive at the 28th and leave at the 1th, right?
#413
m0ds: Jolly good then :)

And: Are you planning to load a bunch of AGS:ers into a vehicle? Does this mean that you've aquired a drivers license, if so, congratulations, if not, shame on you (or possibly shame on me but last time I saw you, I recall you didn't have one). Furthermore, are we once again about to draw procreational organs on the windows?

..and I'll bring my 12-stringed sweetheart. It'll burn for atleast 40 minutes in a regular campfire.
#414
I'm still rather absent.. but I'm planning to attend, however I've prolly not signed up since the Mittens page usually just gives me the finger and strolls off into the sunset.
#415
CJ: Aaaaaaah, it never updates.. *enlightened* Cheers... :D
#416
'tis a game secret, alas :)

Nevertheless, I can't understand why the whole thing freezes. I should be able to break myself out of it, no?

Gah, I'll try using Wait(1) and a bunch of other things. Wish me luck. If I succed, this thread will be abandoned, otherwise I'll  be back to whine even more ;)
#417
Well the idea was that it should react and move when the frames are 2 and 5. This will happen repeadatly since the animation starting above with Anim() is looping but not blocking. Therefor, the wait was excluded.

I presume this simply won't work then. Any ideas on how to do something equalent, ie. it moving when the appropriate frame is set. The only thing I can think of is excaching if (character[EGO].frame == 2 || character[EGO].frame == 5)  for Wait(character anim speed + delay within the animation), and this feels mighty dodgy.
#418
Marvelous. I'ts amazeing how much you've missed by just being more or less vagrant for a couple of months. Breathtaking. Do you ever get bored by all the praise.

Also, I use the dos-compile, although I'm not sure I actually need it. If it's a big hazzle to get it running, don't bother. :)
#419
Yesh, I've encountered something mighty peculiar. It aint even the usual everlasting wait-loop cause I can't even break my way out of the game using good ol' lsl tricks (alt-x)

When running this, my whole comp freezes. Not even the gd forsaken ctrl-alt-del makes a difference. What the hell is wrong with this script?!

if (Mode()==4) { //this is just a function returning a value
MoveCharacterBlocking(EGO,192,145,0);SetObjectBaseline(3,character[EGO].y-1);
MoveCharacterDirect(EGO,192,136); Wait(10);
Anim(EGO,2,7,7,1,0);
//all above I know is working as it should. Anim() is my own function to ease the scripting load

while (GetObjectX(3) > 82) {
 if (character[0].frame == 2 || character[0].frame == 5) {SetObjectPosition(3,GetObjectX(3)-2,GetObjectY(3));character[0].x-=2;}
 }
//This should be the main problem. It freezes directly, the animation doesn't even start. I've tested removing this and

 character[0].animating=0;
//could this cause it? So it's stuck in the while loop? It should not, it won't execute until the while-loop is finished! Also, if so, I should be able to break myself out, not hitting the reset button on my comp.

MoveCharacterBlocking(EGO,character[0].x,150,1);Talk(EGO,"Yada yada blah blah");old=2;sds=0;MergeObject(2);MergeObject(3);
}
//old and sds are local variables, ignore them. Talk is another function to ease the script load

HEEEEEEELP!  ???
