Looks great. The thing I noticed right off is how detailed the grass and potted plants are compared to the rest of the background. While a little extra detail on focal points can be good this sticks out a bit, especially with the walls which are  a simplified cartoon style and lacking any great detail.
Love the style, lower the more realistic grass to a cartoon level or raise the rest of the pictureto the detail of the grass and I would say it is professional quality. Everything else is just personal preference.

I think lengthning her legs and shortening the torso would help alot. also she is very errect, try giving her more of an S shape.
Sophias gate is even, her body is just slightly turned in towards the viewer. this is why if you look closely her left leg is extending slightly farther in front of her than the right.

Oh, and Bend that knee when she brings her foot forward! even bend the actual femur and calf if you have to to get the illusion that she is moving.

hope that helps, Im still learning AGS myself so I cant help on the other part.

OK, I can't find my answer in all the listed sections, but I'm guessing I'm missing something simple.

I created a background as a 640x400 16 bit image for room 1, then created a game that was 640x400 16 bit. The problem is when I create my first room and change the background to my room 1 image, there is some gray area to the right and bottom of the image and I have no idea why. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

The image was saved as a Bitmap btw.
