I have made a decision to not use my cousin's more cartoony style even though I like it better.  It really just came down to me wanting to work on the game which is really hard if you have no backgrounds. I think I'm going to have some screens isometric like the top OfficeLobby picture and some in 1 point perspective like the video store.  I personally think it adds variety and doesn't distract.  What do you guys think of that?  To me its just like another way of letting the scene have a dramatic angle or something - kinda like a movie.  My cousin will still be drawing all the characters (think goodness) and will probably still draw some backgrounds though hopefull their won't be a huge difference between ours.  He actually drew the outlines for the inside of the video store which i like except for the shelves and counter and I did the horrible color job that I'm going to redo.  Anyways keep those comments coming.  If I'm going to add more pictures do I add them to this thread or should I start a new one.

How funny about "fanny" I wasn't even thinking.Ã,  What do you call the pink thing around my main characters waist.Ã,  By the way the top screen the one with the isometric style view is the only one I'm close to done with.Ã,  My cousin drew the cartoony style one on the bottom in MS Paint.Ã,  I love it but it just don't fit.Ã,  I think I'm going to have some screens isometric like the top OfficeLobby picture and some in 1 point perspective like the video store.Ã,  I personally think it adds variety and doesn't distract.Ã,  What do you guys think of that?

LostTraveler that sounds like a novel idea.Ã,  What do you think about a game that has cartoony outdoor graphics but more my style inside?Ã,  Would that be wierd or what?Ã,  By the way my cousin is the one that actually has artisic ability - he drew the outside fanny pack store location and the character. The problem is he can flat out draw but never has any time to do it.Ã,  And me, I have no artisic ability but I do have some time on my hands.Ã,  Do you think I should try to move forward with the game with my art style and just leave his out for consistency, even though I like his art better? Or should I wait on him to get out his one or maybe two rooms per month? (The game is supposed to be huge - probably like 35 screens 20 interior and 15 exteriors - at least) I've been working on the puzzles in my head for about 10 years and just found AGS a few months ago and actually decided I might possibly be able to make this game afterall.

Yeah I'm drawing and my cousin is drawing. Which backgrounds do you like the most and which do you not like?  Would the change in style be so distracting you wouldn't want to play the game?

Here are some pics from a game that me and a couple of my cousins are going to try and make (at least work on alot this summer - it could take forever).  When my cousin and I played Maniac Mansion on his Commodore 64 when I was like in 2nd grade we always knew we wanted to make a game.  This game is going to be huge and awesome or never get finished.  I've had the puzzles in my head and have been adding them since my 7th grade year.  Let me know what you think of these pics.

If someone could help me with the shelves in the video store I would appreciate it alot.

Update 5-24-04
I removed the last picture since I'm no longer going to use it.  So if you see any comments about it below don't be confused.  I just wanted more comments on the pictures that have some potential to get used.

How funny.Ã,  I think in the game I'll have the doors go up.Ã,  And it can be explained that the architect didn't leave enough room or something.Ã,  That way you guys can be part of the inside joke with me.

PS. There used to be enough room then I shrunk down the width of the room to about half.

BIG QUESTION: Is the table and chair in the kitchen necessary.Ã,  I've hated it since I drew it but I thought it was wierd not to have tables in chairs in the break room.Ã,  Nothing on it is going to be a useable object.

I incorporated a lot of your ideas and decided to try to add more detail.  What do you think...

Thanks for all the comments.Ã,  I'm going to be posting another pic in the next few days.Ã,  I do have a question and 2 favors to ask though.

Favors First:Ã,  Someone please have mercy on me and attempt to draw a faucet on that sink.Ã,  I've tried and tried and nothing looks right.Ã,  I want there to be more defined light sources and shadowing also but I am at a loss on how to even start.Ã,  Any suggestions or markups would be much appreciated.

Question Second:Ã,  How important is it to you "the potential player" that the artwork be consistent?Ã,  The reason I ask is because my cousin and I are starting to split up some of the artwork and everything he does looks really cool and cartoony because he can actually draw and everything I do looks dull in comparison.Ã,  Would you play a game with mix a match graphics?

I recently got a really cool pocket pc through my work.  Intel 400 mhz CPU and I was just thinking how cool it would be if AGS supported Windows CE 4.2.  I put one of my 320 x 240 images on the device in landscape mode and man did it ever look awesome. Chris I'm sure you'll never see this and this thread will probably get deleted but I thought I would just mention it because it would rock.  Pocket pc's are going to get faster and faster with more memory and I could think of nothing cooler than playing an ags made game on the road.

Edit: 10-9-03
Sorry I'll try again later next week when I get it back from my boss.  He was wanting to test it out to see if he wanted one for himself before I got all my info in it.

Thanks for all the comments so far.  Keep them coming, here is the office Lobby redone with some of the comments in mind.  Jason: as far as the comment about animating the fish tank (I may do some bubbles) but it is going to lack fish on purpose (unless I make getting the Fish Food into a puzzle).  BuffaloGamer: Just a superstitious architect I suppose. Scummbuddy: I probably will change the numbers above the elevator I just haven't yet.  And I ditched the monitor as you can tell.

I'm just starting to use Photoshop and I would like to know what you think of these pics.  Pick them apart and let me know.  In the second pic I want lots of criticism on the perspective.  I'm not good at perspective and I would like to get better with your help.  BTW: The second picture is not final by any means (I've still got more detail to add to it)

I have changed the layout significantly and reduced the width of the room.  If anyone could help me with drawing an open state for my elevator I would appreciate it.  I can't seem to get anything done I find acceptable (fridge and cabinets too-just in case I find an artist with nothing to do.)

The following code changes the cursor depending on which side of the main character the mouse is pointed to.  It works unless I have a wide room; one that scrolls.  Is there any way I could change this code to make it work.  I believe it is happening because either the mouse.x or character.x is using the base 300x200 reference and the other is actually using the dimensions of the background.

if (mouse.x < character.x) {
ChangeCursorGraphic (0, 78);
}
else {   // right-click, so cycle cursor
ChangeCursorGraphic (0, 2054);
}

I want to, in between, a player walkin from one screen to the next have the screen go black and have white lettering on it.  Do I have to import a new room or is there a more logical way.
