Did you tried to use more sprite cache on Advanced Options in the setup?

For humans, thinking is something hard. For the most part of everything we don't want to think, just act.
And you will come across a major gaming problem that was never been REALLY solved, and probably can't be solved: You just can check the actions the player did something, not its intentions.

I will take you Mirror puzzle as an example, ok?

What do the player first do? Think? Act? Let's try both situations.
Let's assume that in order to break the Mirror you have to just Interact with it.

Thinking - After realizing where he is, the player will think about what the NPC told him. After some minutes he may not get the point of what to do and he will try things at random. While trying everything, he managed to interact with the mirror and it broke sending him to the next part of the game even without him knowing exactaly why he is doing it. Or he can understand the point before doing something, and be reward with satisfation when things turns like he imagined.

Acting - The player try every possible action with every possible thing on the game and sooner or later he interact with the Mirror, breaking it and being able to advance in game. Without thinking, it is still possible to finish the game.

You mat want the player to think before acting, but inevitably someone will go the other way.
The problem is not what you do, but what players do.

This is a major problem not only to the adventure games but to the games in general. At least that's what i think.

I wish you good luck.  :)

Hello people. How are you?

First a quick explanation of my game:

The name is "Tea Time of Terror"l. It will be a short-medium adventure. The history is about a guy, who hates tea from the bottom of his heart, getting invited to a party to see some old friends from school and remember some good momments and drink some tea. Not knowing about the tea he geos to the party. There is just one problem: whoever drink the Tea get transformed in a mindless Zombie. Because of his problem with tea, the protagonist is the only one left unnafected by the zombie-tea disease. Will he survive? Who knows?

I will be the programmer for the game. I am no expert, but i know a fell tricks that will do the job for the game.

I am looking for people to do the artwork, musics and sound sffects of the game.
If read till there i am thankfull, and i will be more if you have some spare time and are willing to help.  ;)

Send me a PM or email me at jose.candido@42bits.com.br

That's about it.
Thanks in advance.

Just to be sure...
There is a need of the character being submerged in water? Or i can put him submerged on other things?
Can i philosophically bend the theme?  ;D
#5
Underwater? I will take a shot.   ;D
I sure to make something with Penguins.

Curiosity

Sometimes my curiosity takes better of me.
But sometimes, i just need to know.
I'm happy just for the feeling of knowing something new.
Just like the time i opened an alive rabbit just to see how it is inside.
They call me crazy and mad.
Its not like i am evil, i just want to know.
Above everything else i just want to know.

Now i seek the ultimate fact of life.
Death.
I want to, i need to, know what happens when you die.
But theres is an empiric problem in front of me.
If i kill a subject, it can't say to me how is it.
For others it would be hard.
But to me was quite easy.
I will be the subject.

Everything from now on will be made in my afterlife.
And so i shot my head....

Another great theme. Man, this contests make me happy.
I can work out my mind with them.

Good Luck people. =P

So i managed to finish with one week left?
The graphics will be pretty minimalist, but they will do the job better than more elaborated ones.

If you ask to me if i am satisfied i will say: Of Course. And a plus: It's my first real, and finished, game.
I can't be more happy.  ;D

When i manage to do all tweaks i will post it.

Good Luck to all!

EDIT!

Half way to the end the real battle begins for me. Graphics.

I can do the scripts with some easy, and a bit of documentation, and ideas will be someday my bread of each day.
But, but but. I do not have ANY graphical skills. Time to train.

@Atelier
That's me! I will enter the compettion. It will be my first "real" game with AGS, but i think i'm up to the challenge.
I will do the same as Duncan and make updates to track my progress. Ok?  ;)

06.01.2001

I got the overall idea and already did most of the moviment/interect system. I don't know exactaly the number of rooms i will need, but i got 6 fine an ready.

The basic idea is based on truths, beliefs and the death itself. I am working right now on to make it "philosofical" and have some good puzzles at the same time.

The thing i most fear right now is english spelling errors, as it is not my native language. I think maybe i will ask help for this. Not sure yet.

07.01.2001

Today was i fun day. The moviment/interaction system is done, now for real and with some improvements, and there is only one room is to be done.

About the concept of the game made some MAJOR improvements. Now it have 300% more puzzles.

Most of the days from now on will be used to make the game graphics, it will be a tough fight for me. But in the end, i hope i learn something.

08.01.2001

Today was pretty straigh-foward. I just worked on animations for the puzzles, solved some scripting problems.

12.01.2001

After some busy days i finally got time to work. Finished the first puzzle and started the second.

14.01.2001

I'm thinking very hard on the graphics right now. I don't know if make them or i ask some of my friends to do it. For questions of learning i think i will go with the first.

18.01.2001

After some days away from the computer i finaly completed all the game. Script and audio wise. Now i will focus on making an art just by myself.

20.01.2001

After giving a serious tought about the art, i will send it as it is. It is very simple and minimalist style, but i think i will do the job greatly.

English is not my first language, and i did not spend much time on it too. Let's just see what happens. First entry on a forum competiton too, happy am i.

Super Penguin

"Onde upon a time there was a Penguin. A sad sad Penguim. He was so sad that his tears become so cold that they were used to make salty ice creams. One day Penguin wanted to don't be sad anymore and don't wanted to see other people sad too. So he put and old-and-all-powerfull super hero cape that his dad gave to him. His dad was a super hero, a nice one. For some reason he was forgotten. But the Penguin would not end like his father and so he started. To bring happiness one must work hard, hard like falling from the top of a stairway just to make silly children laugh. He was unstopabble, a true force of a nature made of hapinnes. Years passed and finally Penguin did it. Everyone and everything were happy. And suddenly he got it, a strange feeling. He was... he was not sad anymore! Maybe some of the happiness he made came back to him. And that is the story of the no-more-sad-sad super Penguin.

Hi! My name is José Carlos, but just call me Zet/Zetsaika ok?

I'm an Brazilian Game Designer Wannabe and after a couple of weeks lurking the shadow of the AGS i decided to get into this forum.

My first contact with adventure was not with Lucas Arts or Sierra, either because of brazilian near-to-nothing pc game market at the time or just by utter ignorance of mine. Anyway, my first contact was with the brazillian game called "Caxy Gambá Encontra o Monstruário". A great terror adventure for children(I do have fear of it even today). And for years it was the only adventure i played in life. Later a friend lend me some very old looking games, in his words. One was called The Secret of Monkey Island and the other were Maniac Mansion. I just can't say how much i liked these games and how they made me feel happy. Now the adventure genre is my favorite.

I plan to someday make a carrer on games, but just now i spend most of my time developing my game designing skills. I'm am starting to learn pixel art, just got a good start! Got good programming skills - not to high, but not low. Even with these skills my focus is still game designing, i just love the idea of playing iwth concepts for games.

Looking at the forum made my fire of game making burn. I will participate the contests for sure!

I think its just that. Lets make some good games, shall we?
