Project:
Zork: The Great Underground Empire Remastered (a.k.a. Zork: The Empire Resurfaced)

Details:
A graphical remake of the hit text adventure Zork I: The Great Underground Empire. The graphics can be SCI, AGI, or VGA, depending on the amount of quality that volunteers believe free work entitles (this is just being made to . The game shall have a somewhat larger focus on plot, and setting up a backstory for the reasons the character is in the area. Besides additions to the plot and minor alterations to the role of the Thief, the game shall retain many of the same puzzles as in the original Zork.

I originally attempted to do the work completely by myself. However, I found that my skill in the graphics department was lacking greatly. So I have decided to brush the dust off this old project and get it out there, except with people who know what they're doing graphics-wise.

Positions Available:
Background/object designers and character designers are especially wanted. Placeholder characters of questionable quality are being used to test the game currently, however, backgrounds are nonexistent at the current time, and are all too necessary. If you wish to do either of these, feel free to PM. I do not care what quality the background is at, however, whatever quality the background is will also determine the character quality as well.

OPTIONAL: If people truly wish to try to voice act for the project, and the speaking roles are filled, then voice acting shall be permitted in the game. I may also need minor assistance in programming, but this I believe can be as easily achieved by asking questions in the forum instead of hiring another coder to assist in the design.

Deadline:
I am hoping to have Zork Remastered released sometime between the June 2013 and Sept 2013 timeframe.

Comments:
Interested parties can reply to this thread or contact me via PM.

Also, character design shall be a much quicker process than background design. Zork is infamous for its great multitude of backgrounds, rooms, and areas, and although some areas shall be removed for the sake of game size, (a vast majority of the outside part of the game) the number of backgrounds in the game shall still be quite large.

Some people may vaguely be aware that I announced that I would do a VGA adaption of the Zork Trilogy, about a few months ago really, but after several scripting tests and projects, I think I am up to the task, so, I want some critique on this character. I'm not good with animation, but the actual foward idle sprite and the initial dialog portrait I am good at. This is pretty much the main antagonist of Zork I (the Thief, who gets you to steal the treasures for himself). He is supposed to look cockney, with a crushed hat with a white scar down the side. So here he is for critiquing.

Thank you.

It's okay. I got it... sorta. Anyways, it works, and that's the good thing.

Okay, in my test game that's going to show off my programming (which I have some experience in, just... not too much) using the insta-game space pack. I'm trying to make it so my character calls an elevator (this is working fine), the elevator comes down (again, working fine), the character gets on the elevator (this is the problem), and then the character and the elevator go up simultaneously (again, another problem). Here is the script so far. Can someone tell me how to finish the script, for the manual sort of... confused me.

function oControlpanel_Interact()
{
cStereo.Walk(212, 171, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
cStereo.Say("Computer, send Elevator 1 to room 208. Stat.");
oElevator.Move(236, 152, 2, eBlock, eAnywhere);
}

Well, everyone, here is the thing you all had no idea about: a site showing that Zork I is in the stages of being remade in a group collaboration... or something. It talks about the updated plot and the major characters of the series. It includes a blog, a section to view upcoming pictures, a download section, a forum... etc. Also, if you want to contact us about a job offer, there are several openings. Not requesting you do so (it would be greatly appreciated if you did though), but I am asking you to check out the site and ask about anything so I can put it in the upcoming FAQ, okay? Here's The Site!

The ones I am looking foward to from 5 to 1 are:

#5: King's Quest IX Silver Lining VGA Edition
#4: Mage's Initiation (from Himalaya Studios)
#3: Space Quest II (from Infamous Adventures)
#2: The Judgement of Quintus (from greGames)
#1: Ben Jordan 7 (from Grundislav)
#7
Hang on, I have to check if this works....

Okay, I'm doing a graphical remake of Zork I (not enough to talk about on the in production forums, only one screen and such...), but I'm stuck in a problem zone. I'm a beginner, and when I tried to make it so you could put a leaflet back in a mailbox, I realised I didn't know the least bit about making inventory items interact with characters. So, I've checked the Help index, and furthermore have been blatantly confused. So, I have two questions.

1: Can someone spot the "parser error" in this piece of code?

function hHotspot1_UseInv()
{
  if (cEgo.ActiveInventory = iLeaflet
cEgo.Walk(123, 121, eBlock, eWalkableAreas);
cEgo.LoseInventory(iLeaflet);
Display("You put back the leaflet and shut the door.");)
}

2: Can I make it so multiple inventory items can be used on a character using ONE function, or do I have to copy and paste "function hHotspot1_UseInv() {}" over and over again?

I hope this thread still allows job requests. I need help with my VGA graphical remake of the classic video game Zork I: The Great Underground Empire. As in, I need graphics and someone who will do it for little more than a name in the credits, a recommendation for other people, and the recognition of being part of the GRAPHICAL remake of Zork. I'll be the main scripter and lead story developer, also creator of concept art and whatnot. People I need for the team are...

1-5 Graphic Designers (Must be able to pull off VGA graphics, be highly varied in the type of backgrounds you can make and work for just a name in the credits. Only about 8 characters though.)
1-2 Music Designers (Must be able to make a fitting tune for quite a few different rooms.)
1-2 Extra Scripters (You know, people to help out with things like cutscenes and extra things and such.)
1+ MALE voice actors (Sadly, all the vocal roles in this game are male. The hero's should be british and somewhat medium. The troll should be low and menacing, with a growl to it. The thief should be dark, evil and cockney. The cyclops should just growl, and so on and so on.)

Characters:
Narrator:
The narrator has just a normal American accent.
(This is going to be a hard-to-get one, as I want to do this one myself). "Using his nimble reflexes, the troll grabs the sword. Not picky about his diet, he eats the sword. He pays for that soon after when the sword causes a fatal hemmorage: the troll dies and his carcass fades away into purple smoke."

Sir Generic (A.K.A the Hero, or You):
The hero is medium pitched and British.
"Please, Mr. Thief, whoever you are, give back those treasures!"

Thalbogor (A.K.A the Thief):
Dark and cockney
"So yee arr attemptin' ta toike these treasures back... to yer 'ome kingdom? Oi mah not be de most patriotic of moi people, but one ting oi most certainly amn't, is someone 'o less ou'soiders take arr treasures. So, fiend... prepah tah doi! (Proper English: So, you are attempting to take these treasures back to your home kingdom? I may not be the most patriotic of my people, but the one thing I am not is someone who lets outsiders take our treasures. So, fiend... prepare to die!)

YAGGDLIX (A.K.A the Troll):
Suprisingly proper British, but low
"Well well well, welcome to Zork, young lad! I am Yaggdlix, of the troll people in this fine city. I'm afraid this is a tad bit of unwanted news, but I'm afraid I will have to sever your neck and mutilate you until you look like a toasted danish! Sorry about this sad bit of information."

PINISSIUS (A.K.A the Cyclops):
As growly as possible, and use either a British or American accent. Either one works.
"RAAGH! Who dares try to enter Thalbogor's lair! Sayy, you look like a hero with a lot of meat on your bones. I'm gonna eat tonight!"

GHOST OF LOST ADVENTURER:
Whispery, but angry.
"Doo yooou miind? Haaaspito naaavariiix... your weeapons shall faaaaill yoooou when you neeed them moooooost. Kids theeese daaaaaysss..."

I can voice act for any teenage, child or any medium to medium-high roles. I also can help with story and plot and some such stuff.

The Rumpus Room / Re: Cheesy subtitle for AGS
Mon 13/06/2011 01:52:14
"AGS... where metal rods and rubber chickens make beautiful zipline babies."
"AGS... where the music is better when it's MIDI."
"AGS... where you don't have your newfangled kid leashes!"
"AGS... 14 years since Grim Fandago started the Adventure Game Apocalypse, and we're STILL going!"
"AGS... where freelancers, cashiers and hipster chicks beat action stars, super spies, and kung fu chicks... EVERY TIME." (Get it, Ben Jordan, Larry Vales and Jessica Plunkenstein? Hurr hurr hurr...)
"AGS... why did the chicken cross the road? To see what funny death quote it would get." (Sierra deaths for the win.)
How's these?

Aha! I thought someone would take that Space Quest IV joke and make it into reality someday! Just remember: keep the creepy screaming Vohaul and the giant robot. That was the best part. I also want to see how many new and innovative deaths you put in (which is the cornerstone of the Space Quest... er, empire, no pun intended).
