Can anyone find Marienplatz in Munich?

Sure can...
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=munich,+germany&ll=48.137573,11.574064&spn=0.007392,0.010579=k&hl=en
It's the area before the dark, complicated looking building (the town hall). A little to the upper left is the cathedral.
When looking for places in Germany, use www.stadtplandienst.de. They also have satellite images (although not as finely resolved as google)

That's the Garching Uni Campus (Dependance of the TU München). The large "ribbed" building on the upper left is the mechanical engineering faculty  (where I study...)
The round thing farther to the right of it is an experimental nuclear reactor (*winks with third eye*)...
Funny thing is that allegedly all "security-sensitive" Places in America are censored...  That's like an invitation to terrorists to bomb anything that is grayed out. "It's not on Google Maps, Must be important somehow ;)"

I personally hate this graphics style. Too clean-cut, and sterile.

Just what I said  ;)

Terragen Pics alone always look like "just another 20 minutes Terragen pic" if they are done badly and "Hey, nice Photograph, I just wonder why there are no trees" if they are done well.
Nevertheless, it can be useful if you are trying to make fully rendered BGs and use it in combination with other programs:

The following work-in-progress Pic for example was created with
-World Machine (Basic terrain)
-Terragen (Atmosphere and terrain texture)
-Treemaker (Trees and bushes)
-Corel Photopain 7 (Additional textures)
-Cinema 4D (Models and procedural textures)

This will one day be Knubblingen, the central location of my game...

It's basically the same thig you get when you select "Properties" after right clicking on the program. Again, I tried all possible modes but none worked...
I guess it's rather a problem of my mouse driver than of WinXP itself... I guess I'll have a look in that direction then...
Thanks anyway

Yes, I'm running an XP System, sorry...
Unfortunately I've already tried out all other compatibility modes and none has worked (would have been a bit too easy, wouldn't it? ;))
Thanks for your quick reply, anyway!

Somwhere I read about a 'compatibility wizard'. I assume that this is just what I used?

General Discussion / NostalGaming trouble...

Hi!

Just wondered if anyone else has encountered and overcome the following problem:
When I play Win 95/98 games, such as Master of Orion II or Dungeon Keeper, they run in compatibility mode, but the mouse cursor takes ages to react on an input.
Any ideas what I could do?

Thanks!

I either chew my beard (yes, it's long enough) or play around with pens. Since I'm a bit clumsy, I end up throwing those pens everywhere...
Also, due to the large amount of coffee I drink I'm always somewhat nervous.

Ah, yes... so it's "'Y' marks the spot" on this map instead of the good old 'X', isn't it?

Sometimes several hours a day for one or two weeks but most of the time I am so tired from work and/or Uni that I can't be creative (or I am just too plain lazy ;))
Overall, much too less time!

The dead guy looks like Raziel from "Legacy of Kain" in noir disguise...
Pretty cool, both of em!

Let's put it this way: There are quite a lot of things that indicate the existence of a Jewish religious leader living and dying around 30A.D. (OK, the year is crap, English monks can't count) and maybe he was even called Jesus, because the muslims also speakl of a prophet (or saint or whatever) called Isa ben Yusuf.
Whether we believe that he was indeed the son of god, or just an ancient verison of Ron Hubbard is up to every one of us...
Nevertheless, most Bible texts are indeed retellings of old babylonian and sumerian texts which may themselves be retellings of even older stories.

Ceterum Censeo Atlantem esse delendam (or something like that... I don't believe it. Honestly)

another funny stopry 'bout Loki:
Once, violent death was prophesied to Baldur, one of the Aesir. The other Aesir were shocked (immortal as they were) and decided to take an oath from every being not to harm Baldur. After some time, the only thing left unbound by oath was the mistletoe. Loki, disguised as a hag advised the Aesir not to care about such a minor plant.
The Aesir then began to try out if the oaths were kept and started to beat Baldur with various things, but he remained unharmed.
Höd, Baldur's brother was sad, because he was blind and the other gods didn't let him participate in the considerable fun they had.
Loki however gave him a mistletoe spear, Höd unsuspectingly threw it and killed Baldur!

That's the most funny norse myth IMO, because the Aesir are shown as a bunch of silly, childish bullies and braggards only interested in beating each other up and sharing a mug of mead afterwards...

Thor's Hammer, Mjölnir (or Mjollnir... spellings differ), was allegedly forged by the svartalfar (black elves or rather dwarves) Sindri and Brok and was the greatest weapon they had ever made, although during its making they got pained by a fly and stopped working shortly before finishing.
That's why the hammer has a very short handle and therefore needs to be hurled with immense force.
When thrown, it became red hot, never missed and always returned to the thrower who had to protect his hand by a magical glove in order not to become burnt (The glove also had a name and I am not sure if Thor himself even needed it).
While not being in use it became very small and easily concealable.
The blow of the hammer (in Thor's hands) is mighty enough to split mountains.
On the day of cataclysm, the Ragnarök, Thor will slay Jormungandr, the Midgard serpent before dying of its poisonous breath.
After that, an Einherjer (a brave warrior, died in battle and thought worthy by Odin) could pick up the hammer (wearing aforesaid glove) and continue fighting the monsters and giants...

Reading your concept story I would suggest adding first a subquest for the glove.
For further information, it might be of use to look for information about the SS-Division "Ahnenerbe". This was a unit that actually existed and they were indeed trying to find someting in old norse and german myths and stories that would help their aims... (sick, eh?)

If you need any further info, pm me, I might know some more things...

That's crap.
This area of ocean floor has previously been investigated and all the "walls" are nothing more than heaps of mud from so called "mud volcanoes".
Besides there's no way that this piece of ocean floor was dry during any time mankind existed (it's about 1000 meters under the sea level...)

Nice job...
You should read the texturing tutorial linked at the homepage, it's really great. Besides, did you know that you can transfer terragen files to other 3d-Renderers/modellers?
There sure is helluva lot of potential in that program, I'd say!

General Discussion / Re: D&D on the forums

After introducing myself to everybody (if there is time) as "Isegrim, Axe-Dwarf-Without-Axe for hire", I scream at the goblins, waving my knife madly!
And if they don't flee, I'll let 'em taste cold steel!

P.S. Ah, yes... this is D&D as I like it (honestly!)... I don't know where I am and who the others are, but there's goblins and that means fun...

fuzzpilz did a floating-point-math plugin some time ago.
it's linked in here, but I don't know if the link still works.
It's a little awkward to handle, but it works. I'd recommend to use taylor-approximations for sin and cos instead of the provided ones, though...
