Stair Quest by No More For Today Productions

Stair Quest is a retro adventure game that pays homage to the most enchanting, pulse-pounding moments from the early King's Quest games. Please consider it for Best Short Game and Best Freeware Game Created with AGS, as well as categories recognizing excellence in graphics, gameplay, writing, and sound.

The realm of Castle's Wood is in despair. As famine, war, disease, and natural disaster wreak havoc upon the land, good King Jonathan seeks the counsel of a wise old Soothsayer.

"Seek ye out the Orb of Stars," she tells King Jonathan. Says the King, "The Orb of Stars is but a legend!" The Soothsayer replies with a sly grin, "Even in legend may one find the truth, m'lord."

So, King Jonathan dispatches his bravest knight, Sir Devon, to quest for the legendary Orb of Stars. Little does he know his own daughter, Princess Ingrid, has also set out in search of the fabled relic...

Features:

  • Gorgeous EGA graphics inspired by classic Sierra On-Line adventure games like King's Quest and The Black Cauldron!
  • An innovative text parser that recognizes literally thousands of commands!
  • Multiple protagonists! Choose to play as either the brave Sir Devon or the daring Princess Ingrid.
  • An original 8-bit soundtrack so good it could pass as a 9-bit soundtrack!
  • An old-school instruction manual filled with Stair Quest lore and important tips for success! So authentic, it could have been written by Roberta Williams herself. (It wasn't.)

Developed in two weeks for AdventureJam 2016 by No More For Today Productions (Patrick Johnston, Gareth Millward, Jess Morrissette, Frederik Olsen, Troels Pleimert, Chris Ushko, and Kevin Wallace). Cover art ("Roll for Initative...") by Jon Hodgson. Cover design by Andy Couch.

I'd like to offer Late Last Nite up for consideration in the Best Short Game category and Chadwick the talking owl as Best Character. Originally created for the 2015 AdventureJam, Late Last Nite is a surreal point-and-click adventure in the style of LucasArts and Sierra classics.

Join our protagonist Morgan as she stumbles through a series of bizarre fantasy settings -- a mer-pirate lagoon, a junk food forest, and a steampunk vampire nightclub -- in search of three missing relics. How will her night end? It's up to you to decide!

Features:

  • Classic point-and-click adventuring.
  • Nearly an hour of puzzle-solving gameplay.
  • Gorgeous 2D graphics (with the occasional 3D-rendered vampire thrown in for good measure).
  • A catchy original soundtrack.
  • A shocking twist ending that will cause you to question everything you've ever believed about life.
  • So many hotspot interactions that you'll joy puke.
  • A talking owl.

2015 AdventureJam Judge's Pick!

"A wonderfully off-the wall adventure gaming experience, which dances the line between absurdity and esoteric." -- Steven Alexander, Infamous Quests

"Playing this crazy hilarious adventure game will literally kill you when your mind explodes." -- @bear_vs_sumo

"Really funny. Loved the twist ending." -- @YesItsColin

Late Last Nite is available for download here.

Greetings!

After a few months of hard work, our team is proud to announce the release of Version 1.2 of Late Last Nite. The game was originally created for the 2015 AdventureJam competition (where it was selected as a Judge's Pick). This latest update is our effort to incorporate all the cool stuff we didn't have time to implement during that original 14-day AdventureJam window.

What's new in Version 1.2? We've added new puzzles, new characters, tons of additional interactions, improved graphics, remastered music, and more!

What's Late Last Nite all about? You'll take on the role of Morgan as she stumbles through a late-night quest to retrieve three lost items: her wallet, her cell phone, and her lucky cigarette lighter. Along the way, she'll visit surreal settings like a mer-pirate lagoon, a junk food forest, and a steampunk vampire nightclub.

The updated game, which takes about thirty or forty-five minutes to complete, is available for free download (PC and Mac) at: http://www.latelastnite.net/

Check it out and let us know what you think!

I'm just popping by to mention that we've posted an updated version of Late Last Nite (Version 1.1) with some minor dialogue, puzzle, and animation tweaks. We've also created an entry for the game on the AGS website.

If you get a chance to play Late Last Nite, we'd love to hear your feedback!

Hi, there!

My team and I recently finished a short game for the 2015 AdventureJam titled Late Last Nite. We've been trying to create a Mac version of the game using Wineskin, but we haven't had much luck with it so far.

Does anyone out there have any Wineskin experience? If so, I don't supposed you'd be willing to create a Mac version of Late Last Nite for us, would you? ;) Failing that, do you have any tips to offer on getting an AGS game to play nicely with Wineskin?

You can download the game here: http://gamejolt.com/games/adventure/late-last-nite/59209/

Thanks in advance!

For your consideration...

Don't you just hate it when an evil cat travels through time and erases your favorite adventure game series from history? Bea, devoted Space Quest fan and star of Pledge Quest II: Noodle Shop of Horrors, can sympathize.

In this sequel to Pledge Quest I: The SpaceVenture Adventure, Bea discovers that her diabolical cat, Vohaul, has tampered with history and created an alternate timeline in which the Space Quest series never existed. It's up to her to find a way to travel back in time and save Space Quest from certain doom. Along the way, she unravels a nefarious conspiracy and even encounters the creators of the Space Quest series, the Two Guys from Andromeda.

The game features tons of in-jokes and references to classic adventure games and sci-fi franchises alike. It's also decidedly “meta,” exploring such themes as where inspiration comes from and how fans help shape the popular culture they love.

A pair of Space Quest fans, Akril and Decaffeinated Jedi, created Pledge Quest II (and its predecessor) to spread the word about the Two Guys' new SpaceVenture project, but the short game plays as a love letter to the genre as a whole.

Features include:

  • Animated cutscenes and 3D-rendered thingamabobs!
  • More click events than a ballpoint pen convention!
  • Unlockable “designer commentary” mode!
  • Smell and taste icons (great for smelling and tasting, respectively)!
  • An evil time-traveling cat!

What people are saying:

  • "Pledge Quest II is awesome!" -- Mark Crowe, co-creator of Space Quest
  • "Okay, this is delightful." -- IndieGames
  • "It's rare when a fan game comes along that is inspired by both Sierra and LucasArts adventure games, but Pledge Quest II...certainly falls in that group." -- International House of Mojo
  • "Meow." -- Vohaul the Cat

Suggested categories:

  • Best Short Game
  • Best Non-Player Character (Vohaul the Cat)
  • Best Animation

Visit PledgeQuest.net to download Pledge Quest II and learn more about the series (or, check out the game's AGS database entry). A Pledge Quest II walk-through is also available -- just in case.

Thanks for your time!
