I'm happy to announce that I currently have a new game in production, and it will once again be made in AGS!

UPDATE 2/13/24 - The demo is out!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2088810/Perfect_Tides_Station_to_Station/

Perfect Tides: Station to Station is a point and click sequel to Perfect Tides about the momentum and whiplash of young adulthood. Set in a brand new urban environment, players will experience the year 2003 through 18-year-old Mara's eyes, collecting and applying not only objects but ideas and experiences -- all with the goal of perfecting their craft and finding a place in the world.

Featuring:
-Another cinematic tale following a year of Mara's life, complete with seasonal acts, non-linear exploration, and branching outcomes in the point n' click adventure game style.
-Over 60 all-new environments to view and explore.
-The mechanics of its predecessor are both streamlined and expanded upon. Interact and look at rooms, talk to people, and collect objects with ease.
-New to this game, the player can collect an inventory of names and subjects. These in turn can feed Mara's understanding of topics through conversation, experience, and memory. Mara can either grow as a writer, or languish in stale notions and platitudes, affecting the outcome of the story.

I made a video with more in-game footage as well, where I talk about the updated mechanics for this game.

The Kickstarter campaign is halfway through and we're not quite half-funded as of posting, so we could definitely use a signal boost. But I appreciate anyone who takes the time to look at the project! Hoping to have more info and a progress gauge soon. :)

I want to give a huge thanks to the AGS community for their early interest and support in this game. I had so much encouragement and tech help on my very first game, and I'm proud and excited to have seen it through. Would love to hear what some of you think! :)

Here's an update to say the game has been released!!

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1172800/Perfect_Tides/

I want to thank the AGS forum community for being so supportive. I've never made a video game before, and the experience of creating this game and seeing people's reactions has been unbelievable. I also owe a big thanks to Khris and Crimson Wizard for helping me troubleshoot along the way.

Hope some of you will enjoy it! I'd love to hear from you.  :)

This was totally it - I had a few buttons visible! It's working perfectly now. Thank you so much, Khris!

Recruitment / Composer wanted
Fri 30/07/2021 16:04:48
Project:
Perfect Tides - a game about the fun, alienation, stupidity and agony of being a teen.
https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=55818.msg636581506#msg636581506

Details:
This is a comedic and emotional story, set in the year 2000, of a 16-year-old girl who lives on an island and can't quite make sense of the "real" world. She retreats to the internet where she constructs something closer to the life she wants, but of course, this world is also incomplete and hard to understand. A chance meeting with a new group of friends propels her into realms both terrifying and exhilarating. As the seasons change from spring to winter, so does our hero, finding courage in herself and an insight into the past. The gameplay is reminiscent of Sierra games (King's Quest 5+6, Freddy Pharkas, Laura Bow 2) from the 90s.

Position Available:
Right now I need a composer. My previous composer had to leave the project - fortunately, he left me with a couple of good examples of what I'm looking for. I haven't had much luck so far finding this sort of midi style, with this sort of longform story in mind, so hopefully the examples will help:

Opening theme music: http://www.octopuspie.com/goodies/ptmusic/intro.mp3
Chintzy downtown muzak: http://www.octopuspie.com/goodies/ptmusic/muzak.mp3

Deadline:
I'd like to wrap up the game by the end of the year.

This is a paid job - I am open to your preferred terms. If you're interested, please reply or DM me with samples of your work. Thank you for looking!

Apologies for bumping the thread again, I have one final question. The module has been extremely useful in my game - it comes up in multiple scenes - but the longer you play, the creakier the animations get. Not just the scrolling of the text, but any other nonblocking animations just become unbearably slow. I've tried turning off any extraneous animation, but it doesn't seem to make a difference - the chat itself is still just as slow.

I've used Chat.Clear before each scene and Chat.Cleanup at quit - still, the scenes creak on. Any thoughts on what might be bogging the game down would be much appreciated!

Just wanted to share my latest trailer with you all! The game has been pushed back, but I've been steady at work. ETA 2021.

Thanks always for your feedback!

Sorry to revive the thread. This plugin has been enormously useful to me, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use it in skippable cutscenes. The game inevitably freezes if I try to skip any Chatdisplay content. I've tried to use if (!Game.SkippingCutscene) to bypass the Chat code, but no luck.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Either way it's a terrific module!

Thank you all for the kind and supportive replies! It's been over a year (!!!) and I just wanted to post an update. The game is still in production and I just released the first official trailer! It can be viewed here:

https://vimeo.com/357937874

Here's my new completion estimate:

Story: 70%
Scripting: 50%
Puzzles: 40%
Graphics: 70%
Sound/Music: 10%

Things have gone slower than I would've liked (originally slated for 2019) but considering how much non-game time I spend with my 1-year-old son, I can't complain. I just wrapped up the "Summer" story, the 2nd and longest act in the game. On to Fall and Winter - fingers crossed to be playtesting it by this time next year!

AGS Games in Production / Perfect Tides
Mon 19/02/2018 19:23:40
Hi all, I've been lurking a while accumulating AGS knowledge (thanks for the wealth of it so far!), and I wanted to finally post and show you my game.

Perfect Tides
Perfect Tides is an adventure game in the classic Sierra style about the fun and anguish of being a teen. It's a very personal project for me, and my first game after a decade of working almost exclusively in comics. My little teaser blurb:

Story:
You're trapped on an island. Well… actually, you live there. Your food and socks and family are there. You have a virus-free computer and a 56k modem. And with gorgeous rolling dunes, free-roaming deer and no cars in sight, the landscape is basically paradise.

But it's not all it's cracked up to be. Three seasons out of the year, the island is practically abandoned. And with school going badly on the mainland, sometimes the internet is your only company. Not that you've minded, lately: your online life is taking you to wild new places. You feel acceptance, creative empowerment… and for the first time, something very close to how you imagined love would be.

The seasons carry you mercilessly, from one revelation to another. As summer approaches, the island pulsates with nervous anticipation, and so do you. Your life is about to change in irreversible ways â€" in undreamed-of directions. You may soon discover what lies beyond the island, and perhaps more mysteriously, in the depths of your own heart. What are you looking to know?

I'm also running a Kickstarter campaign to fund the game. As of today (2/19) there are 8 days left to go, but I'm happy to say the game has already been fully funded and is in production!

Development Progress:

Story: 70%
Scripting: 50%
Puzzles: 40%
Graphics: 70%
Sound/Music: 10%

Clearly, we are in early days! Expected completion date: December 2019

Team:

I'm Meredith Gran, the writer, director, animator, and (for now) lead programmer on this project. The environments are being drawn by animator Soren Hughes. I expect this team to expand but we're doing it all right now.

Thanks for checking it out! Looking forward to having more updates soon.
