Ok I`ve just finished to play this game and i thought maybe I would add my 2 cents worth by writing a full legnth review on the game so here goes:

Plot: Basically the story in a few words is A man (Andrew Barksdale) , his wife has died and his friend is near death but he wants Andrew to do something for him and you as Andrew need to accomplish your friends last request....

Art: The art was on an overall aspect ,OK. It had nothing great to speak of and i dont feel thatthis game was focusing on the art aspect of the game. The background art is pretty nice, nicely colored and has a certain style to it, However i didnt enjoy the art that was used to make the characters , i think that it was of a much lower quality than the rest of the art in the game and also the walk cycle of themain character isnt too great either because he doesnt really walk forwards or backwards.
Score : 6/10

Storyline: the thing i liked about the plot and storyline of this game is that it was a fresh and new idea and without spoling anything for potential players the end is very thought provoking and quite deep. There are certain aspects to the storyline that dont really make sense and have a place like the fact that the main characters wife was infertile , i did not really feel that this was really necessary as one of the elements in the story but for a short concise game it really had a very rich story.
Score : 8/10

Music: For those of you who want to install the 12mb odd music pack it is well worth it . I feel that it definitely adds to the atmosphere of the game rather than just an annoyance and I also think that the music is very suitable for the game because it is a serious type of music like the genre of the game.
Score : 9/10

Gameplay: I do understand that this game isnt designed to be a very "playable" game it rather serves as a interactive storybook , therefore i will judge the gameplay on the puzzles that were included and not lack thereof. The puzzles that were included i think in total about 4 if im not mistaken , where of a good degree of difficulty and where appropriate for the style of game that was being made
Score 7/10

Overall: I enjoyed the game as being a new concept in the genre of adventure games , it also adds a bit of a philosophical question and gets the player to think a bit of subjects outside the simple storyline of the game. Even though art has much to be desired I still feel that I can say with full honesty that i did feel the game was good but it definitely can make up for its downfalls without too much trouble.
Score: 30/40

Sorry about the spelling did this real quick.:)

Hey

I ahve "tried" to make my first background for my Mags game it is the first of 5 backgrounds that i am making. Im not very good at art and you would know this if you read my other post so i really tried hard this thing as simple and easy as it looks took me about 2 hours to do and on the whole im pleased that i managed to get it to look like something but its farrrr from being good.

here is the pic : http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/room2.jpg

Please any help would be appreciated

Hey , I think im gonna try make amags game as my first ags game just for some practice.

Im thinking something along the lines of , Haddon Sandblum , the guy who created the first santa image is kidnapped by an evil villian (ill find a villian from one of an existing adventure game)  because they dont want there to be christmas spirit but indiana jones is sent on a mission to find him in time for him to create santa for chirstmas.

I know the sotryline is a bit corny and i need to move my butt cause i only got 11 days but does this seem fine to you? also what are the rules of reusing backgrounds from older adventure games & obvioussly reusing characters because it is needed for this months competition , is this possible or are there any rules against it?

Overall an ok game , I wont really judge you on graphics because whatever you did i couldnt do any better. The storyline however feels a bit childish , i dont know if you are maybe aiming at this market , if you are then go on very good for "younger" children

First of all i think you need to update the gui that all the inventory items are on the same screen because if you are left with the rope and the stick it is shown on two different inventory screens where there is more than enough space to show them on one . Also when you return th teddy bear back to the sister and then talk to her she still says that the dog ran away with the bear

Thanks to everyone who tried to help with words of encouragement . I have taken all you guys advice and i think what ill do is first develop my art skill do a few backgrounds a few characters not for the purpose of making a game but rather as practice to get my art skill moving along then maybe ill post it on the critics forum and you guys can tell me what you think , and what is missing etc.

Just a question is Adobe photoshop a good program for a beginner like me or are there better programs out there.

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement.

I think the main problem isnt that i dont have the ideas of how the artowkr must look for e.g i know exactly how a room must look and can visualize it and as soon as i put it on paper it looks disgusting and is an absolute mess , I even got myself photoshop 7 thinking maybe it would help me because it is advanced etc. but it didnt help at all.

I first read a tutorial i think by Kafka where he did all his characters and backgrounds in pencil then scanned them in , I tried that but my pencil dfrawing was so bad that i couldnt use it . Then i tried to purely construct on computer from scratch that was also a major disaster . I think my main problem is perspective and perception of how the things must look from a certain angle.

For those of you out there who are accomplised adventure game artists what do you suggest should i first do it in pencil then scan it in or should i do it staright onto PC . I have thousadns of ideas for games but this is probably the only problem that lies in my way. I want to release at least a 10 room game by mid February but i dont want the artwork just to be rushed for the sake of getting it done i want it to look nice.

Also i get intimated by playing other artists games because i start comparing artwork and see how i will never be able to match that qaulity of artwork. I have looked at kafkas tutorials and they help but they only help from once i have an image on paper then what to do and that i can do the coloring outlining etc. the only problem is getting the outlines actually down in paper.

Thanks for all your help so far

I have ive looked at many tutorials but many of them require you to have at least an ounce of artistic skills and ive used a few and tried to use them to make backgrounds but that failed horribly im embarassed to even post the background hehehe

Ok I recently found out about the amateur adventure gaming world and  i have been really interested and played a few games and i really enjoyed them but what i would enjoy more is to actually make my own game.

So yesterday i sat down and started , i can do the music , the actual AGS programming and probably a bit of scripting if i read through the tuts because i have a bit of a background in java and other programming but then i get to the  :'( ART :'( and this is where i fall flat on my face . I am probably the most artistically challenged person on the planet and cant even draw a person properly , I have an idea for a game and have the basic storyline and what the screens must look like but when i get to actually drawing the stuff I JUST CANT.

That is why i want to ask you out there if anyone knows of any excellent tutorials for people who are hopelessly bad at art. If anyone can help me please message me because i am really motivated to get the project off the ground .

Thank you for reading my sob story :)
