This is Roger's portrait I've made so far, I tried out a few expressions for him, maybe it's the case of having different expressions instead of having just a talking animation.
I kept his original sprite's color palette, but I can change it if needed.

Nice, the size can be bigger then.
I'll rework it and draw some different neutral facial expressions.

Hi,
I'm making a portrait for the Roger character and I would like some critiques about everything from size, art style, facial features, etc.
The portrait will be used in the default templates, so it should suit everyone's preferences.

I tried this size of 64x72, honestly, I'm not familiar with how the Sierra-style dialogues should look, so I ended up not knowing the perfect size for the portrait. I tried to block the UI inside the 320x200 canvas and draw a portrait in a size I think would look okay.
I'll push the details after feedback.

I have experience with pixel portraits, send me the details about them, like resolution, facial expressions, amount, etc, and I'll get them done.

I kinda follow the same process for all my artwork.

1 - sketching:
Don't pay too much attention to the quality of lines and getting everything right, this is the moment you experiment and work on the right composition, you don't want to rework things after spending hours on an artwork.

2 - Block colors and sketch refinement:
In this step, you start to put the base colors for the elements and improve the lines, shapes, etc of the drawing, do not work on details or final polishing yet.

3 - Shading:
During the shading, you add the shadows and highlights for every element, always keeping in mind where is the light coming from, cast shadows, ambient occlusion, light bouncing, etc. In this stage, you want to have everything the way you want it, because making adjustments later takes much more time than getting it right now.

4 - Work on the details:
Just scroll the artwork looking for things that may add an extra appeal to the eyes.

Some stuff I've made using these steps

Hi! It's been a while since I updated the progress here, I was going some burnout due to my regular job and making my own game, so the develpment was very slow, and sometimes stopped. Anyways, in the meantime I was able to make some progress and I would like to share some new areas I've created, there are other that I won't share yet, maybe in the future.
Thanks

Hello everyone!

I have some news since my latest post, I also updated the first message with this news below.

The game has a Steam page now, and its Demo is already finished and uploaded there, but not yet published. I'll publish it maybe in a couple of days after some more testing to make sure everything is alright.

The Demo was localized to 7 languages, thanks to many people who volunteered to help. I don't know if all these languages will be present in the full release, this will depend of the Ko-Fi crowdfunding I've opened. If you feel like to donate, I'll be very happy, but even a Steam Wishlist is enough :D

Thanks for reading!

Project:
Murder Cases is an escape game that I'm developing.
https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/ags-games-in-production/murder-cases-aprox-25-complete-thinking-about-a-demo/

Details:
It's about a man who wakes up at home, with no recent memories and his wife is dead on the bed. The objective is to escape the house because there is an unknown intruder roaming the house, then discover what has happened to his wife.

Positions Available:
I'm looking for people that can proofread the Italian texts and check if everything is cool, they were translated from English. The Demo has around 1500 words, including GUI, Items, and sentences.
I had someone translating the Demo texts for free from English to Italian, but I'm seeing mistakes even on basic things like a "cloth hanger" (I'm googling the words translated and seeing if it makes sense with what is returned in the search).
Unfortunately, I have no budget to pay as this is my first game, but I have opened a crowdfunding to cover the translation and I would gladly pay when the goal is achieved.

Deadline:
I wish I could have this done till the end of this month, but this isn't carved in stone, can be discussed.

Anyone interested can reply to the thread or contact me via PM.

Quote from: FireFlower on Thu 23/03/2023 20:58:39I like the style. The music is nice too, fits the style. Murder mysteries are always interesting as well.

Thanks! I`m glad you liked it so far.
I`ll have a demo of the game soon, I`m just revising the written stuff in the game and making some research about the Steam.

Ko-Fi Funding for Localization

Background Story
Murder Cases is a game where the player will find himself at a crime scene inside his home with an unknown invader and his dead wife lying on the bed. Without any memories of what happened, your role is to escape the house while seeking help to catch the invader.

How it Started
I decided to create a game by myself because I love to tell stories and beat new challenges. With no programming skills, I looked for an engine that would be "easier" to make this project possible, and that's when I came to choose the AGS Engine.

In-Game Mockup

How is it Going
I've been working in this project since 22 January this year, the game has around 25% completion, counting the graphics and programming likewise. Everything is done by me, so its progresses sometimes faster, sometimes slower, depending on the task I'm working. I expect to finish the project til the end of the current year (2024).
