None taken. I'm sure by-and-large that you're right. You're certainly right that it's not for everyone, but now it's just for even less people.

I'm sure it was discussed. I'm not trying to rehash, but I don't frequent this forum. Anyway, it's not a big problem -- 2.72 is still more powerful than I'm capable of taking advantage of. Just wish I could take advantage of that extra resolution while, you know... actually being able to do something with no scripting knowledge.

I may be a novice, but the removal of the event editor has rendered this totally usesless to me. This program has officially moved beyond the realm of an accessible, user-friendly game creation tool. It was just as powerful before, why remove the accessible parts? Just for spiteful elitism?

I'd like to hear anyone tell me a game with deeper plot, or more intuitive interface. The music is really IMO, and the graphics are rather average, but this game is the most immersive one I have played (and I have played quite a few). Oh, and three more words: Le Serpent Rogue.

Name another game with a deeper plot and all that? Okay, Gabriel Knight 2. You've got it all wrong. The plot was fantastic, albeit ripped off from a novel (Holy Blood, Holy Grail). But what soundtrack are you talking about? Compared to GK 1 and GK 2, the soundtrack was non-existent, and the music came up in all the wrong places.

Gabriel Knight 3 is a great game, but it's not as good as GK 1 and 2. GK2 is probably the greatest of all time.

Thanks. That was helpful! I was taking a totally wrong approach.

I've set the dummy on the bed and covered it up with a blanket. I've got the sheet. I keep getting caught trying to leave.

Please tell me what to do next.

Okay.

--- Edit ---
Actually, could you delete this thread altogether. I'll start a new one following the rules of the Game in Production thread.

Thank you.

A link was provided for screenshots/info about my game, thereby falling under the "Games In Production" rules. I have provided the screenshots and information asked, and I have put my post in the correct forum.

I would appreciate it if you would move it back.

Thank you.

DarkRiver Productions, my ever-expanding development "team" (currently consisting of a grand total of two members) needs a dedicated person to fill an essential yet low-committment role in our upcoming game, and perhaps for future collaborations.

What I need is someone to help me with plot and puzzle design on my new detective game "High Crimes." Check out the promo thread by clicking on the link in my signature. Also, check out our bare-bones Geocities site by clicking on the other link in my sig.

If you are interested in the job, please email me and tell me why you would like to be a member of the team and why you would make a good addition. All entries will be considered because I'm not in a position to be picky. Your incredible reward will be... being listed in the credits and knowing you've helped out a great deal. Mostly what I'm looking for here is someone who would like to be with me in the long run.

Thanks in advance.

Well seeing as how the project is not MHawk's or Tierra's, that is in fact Sierra's game, I don't see why Nemo has to wait around asking for permission. May whoever makes the best version win.

Personally, I'm looking forward to someone making a new version of KQ3, as I love the King's Quest series. I hope everything turns out well, Nemo. Keep us posted.

---Edit---
By the way, your cave looks absolutely amazing! Way better than what Tierra did with their remakes (no offense to them, their remakes were fantastic).

12431: Thanks. I appreciate it.

HillBilly: Yes, I think making the backgrounds smaller would make it look crappy.

Dr. Jekyll: I've never heard of this game. I take it that it is an adventure game? Does it have photographic backgrounds? I might check it out.

oversized chicken: That is a VERY good idea. I wish I had thought of that. Oh well, I have to redo both walkies anyway (I didn't save the model for Chris! D'Oh! Any future animations I make have to match up with the walkie, though, so I need to make a new model and start from scratch.

SteveMcRea: Very good question. The reason is because even though I have a walk animation from every angle that is a fairly fluid 10-11 frames long, I don't have a freakin' standing still stance! As I said, I deleted the model, so in his next incarnation he will be able to stand still instead of always having one foot forward.

GarageGothic: Thank you! To tell you the truth I'm not sure, I'm using a preset camera angle that I thought looked good. And I'm using Poser 3. I know, it's old, but I don't have the cash for a newer version, and my PC is really very slow compared to the machines of today (I have a 633mhz Celeron, 128 MB RAM, and a Riva TNT2 graphics card. It works, though). And No, I didn't take the pictures myself. I stole them from websites via the Google Image Search. I know, not a nice thing to do, but I think there is a very slim chance of the actual photographer seeing these pictures. I would take the pictures myself, but I don't have a digital camera, and I don't have access to all the places I want to go (morgues, police stations, etc.). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Andail: I agree that the Poser models are quite tacky, especially compared to the backgrounds, but I really have no other alternative. I mean, it wouldn't really be efficient for me to set up a blue screen and higher actors to do walk animations, etc., and I'm so bad with drawing it's not even funny. I even have a hard time with PhotoShop. I really just produced that title screen with a stroke of luck. I didn't know exactly what I was doing, but I achieved the desired effect (although that's arguable). Your typewriter suggestion sounds good. Thanks.

Zor: It's a lofty concept, Zor. I'm so bad, you have no idea. And that would take up a lot of time that I could be developing the game. I'll take that into account, however.

Everybody thus far: Thank you for compliments and criticisms. I REALLY appreciate it. I've had AGS for awhile, but this is really my first attempt at serious game development (apart from RPG Maker), so I can use all the help I can get.

I don't dare make them bigger, they are already half as tall as the screen. I'll just have to find better backgrounds then. I'd really like to take my own pictures (I've been stealing via Google Image Search), but I don't live in an urban area (where my game takes place) and I don't really have access to a digital camera.

As far as Poser goes, if I traced over the characters, they would be cartoony, which wouldn't look good over photo backgrounds. Granted they don't look spectacular now, but at least they are somewhat convincing. The hair is the big problem, I think. I'll see what I can do. Thanks for the tip.

BTW, there is a cel-shade option in Poser if you think a cartoon look would be better. I'll draw an example pic. However, I'm not artistically inclined, and tracing it myself would be nay impossible.

I can make you a Poser 3 character. Unfortunately, it either has to be nude, in a business suit, or in casual clothing, though the clothing/skin/hair can be any color you want.

As normal as this:

Or as weird as this (or weirder):

If this isn't what you're looking for, I won't be insulted or anything. Poser is certainly on everyone's blue cup of tea.

Critics' Lounge / High Crimes Title Screen

How's this title screen for my game. High Crimes is a detective game that plays like a true-crime story. I have a couple screenshots in the promotional thread if you would like to criticize those too (they are also linked at the bottom).

Main character in his office.

Main character talking to his secretary.

Thanks in advance.

As far as I'm concerned right now, the reception desk is just placeholder for now. I'll find something more appropriate for a detective's office sometime, but this'll work for now.

I'm not sure how he's too small in the office, though. But really, I guess all the rooms right now are just placeholder until I get further along.

Thanks for the compliments and suggestions.

That's really nice of you Mad Reizka. It's also quite an undertaking. I haven't put any music in my game yet, though.

Be happy for me, everybody!!! I just got the Curse of Monkey Island and The Longest Journey both for ten bucks total!

I have not played either before, but I've heard they are both very good. I've never played a LucasArts adventure game (Sierra games are my things) except for about five minutes of the original Monkey Island.

I know I should probably play the other MI games before Curse, but it was too good a deal to pass up at only four dollars, and LJ at six.

Thanks. I would, but I checked them out and I don't think they're compatible with Poser 3, and I don't want to shell out the dough for a new version (I got this version for free from a computer magazine).

But I completely agree with you, they do look just like plastic wigs. The models themselves are a little weird looking too, but I get by with what I can. I hope it won't detract from the game.

I'd like to formally announce a game that's been, up until a couple weeks ago, a figment of my imagination.

THE HOOK
High Crimes: Blood Money (tentatively titled) is a photo-realistic detective game with a true-crime flavor. Its inspiration is derived from the likes of Gabriel Knight and the Police Quest series, and if done well, fans of these games should enjoy High Crimes.

THE PLOT
You play private eye Christopher Foss with help from his sexy sidekick Laura Parker. Together they endeavor to solve a suspicious crime backed by an equally suspicious, haphazard police investigation.

THE CHARACTERS
There are two main characters: Christopher Foss and Laura Parker. Chris is a down-on-his-luck PI with a past that's haunted him for years. He was going to be a police officer until he accidentally killed his best friend in live-fire training exercise. Upon opening up his own practice, he met Laura.

Laura is a smart, classy, witty young woman with a penchant for biting sarcasm (can you say Grace Nakimura? I really didn't mean it to be that obvious). She is a true friend, and will help tremendously throughout the investigation.

I have a couple NPCs, but I will not post them here until I'm absolutely sure what their roles in the game are going to be.

THE STATS
16 million colors.
640x480 resolution.
Photorealistic backgrounds.
Characters made in Poser 3.
Graphics editing program is PhotoShop 7.

To achieve the right atmosphere, I am using real photographs for the locales. The characters and talkies are made with Poser 3.

I have yet to incorporate a soundtrack. I'm saving that for the very end. I should have a demo out shortly, but what I have is not quite ready for primetime yet.

I have a ten-page design document right now that includes a pretty thorough explanation of the plot, character profiles, and some choice puzzle explanations. The game is far from worked out, though. Expect an August 2004 release.

I will post more plot details as I feel it appropriate. I do not want to put too much of plot down, though, and end up changing it.

Please post any comments, questions, suggestions, or offers for help (wishful thinking, I know) here, or email them to me at darkriver@wildmail.com. Thank you. I hope you are looking forward to this game, but more importantly, I hope you enjoy it when it comes out.

SCREENSHOTS
The following are a couple preliminary screenshots. Click the text for a full-size image:

Chris chats it up with his assistant at the reception desk. Note that the title has been changed since this screenshot was taken.
