Critics' Lounge / Re:Sprite Advice ...

I was just thinking about making a Star Wars adventure myself. Oh well. I'll leave it to the professional  :).

With the Vader character, the eyes should be more like Eye-Sockets, like the Stormtrooper. Also, you can't really tell there is the Grill where his mouth should be. It's hard to do with such a small pixel size, so I don't expect it to happen, but just a suggestion. Should Chewbacca be more scruffier as far as the top of the head goes? (Like a shaggy dog?).

Hope to see Luke in his Tatooine gear, Han & Luke & Leia in Hoth gear, Lando, Red Guards, Emperor (complete with lightning animation), Han in carbonite, some Starships (if any), Death Star (woohoo!!!).

Actually if this is an adventure completely void of any of the trilogy stories, than you can ignore some of those suggestions of characters.

I also hope that you decide to never, NEVER use Episode I, Episode II, or the pending III. Personally, I think Lucas has lost it and has made me almost hate Star Wars because of those crappy films. I really love Episode V, & VI because Lucas didn't direct them and the stories did not come from Lucas and were written by different people.

Going to love your game no matter what!!!

Cheers, Jason.

I understand where everyone is coming from in light of recent events. What I have noticed is that no matter what community I have been involved in, I have noticed that there has always been a rift between the Oldies and the Newbies; Tolerance is dependant upon a person's personality; Finally, no matter what, everyone wants acceptance.

When I first joined, I posted my problems and had a big ego* that I would release great games through my company to impress everyone here. I also remembering trying to impress Chris when I packaged one of the AGS releases in a Self-Extracting Setup program. I also remebering helping Scid create a SCID Interface (Verb Coin) and then after that, I went on a hiatus. That was a year or two ago when I hated the game I was making and I didn't want to ask everyone here a bunch of questions about game creation.

Recently I have returned and for a while I was going along and posting alot (Naming company, etc.) but I tried not to post un-necessary things**. I hate to pick on a few posts, but I don't think it matters too much if the temperature is rising, if you have discovered that there is a site where everything is spelled backwards, or if your website had 1001 customers over the course of 3 years. It's un-necessary to litter the threads with these posts and also stupid jokes which might piss off Moderators.

I also have come to realize that I can't judge anybody on this board. As soon as I do, I will piss someone off. I found Helm's recent post(s) interesting because I got to find out that Helm tells people when he is pissed off at someone (or many). Sometimes, that takes more guts than most people have.

Finally, I have come to some decisions. I hope to also leave this forum (Gen. Discussion) alone because I know that If i decide to spend my time here, I will end up posting my useless opinion*** and waste space up here. I will always make sure to read the "Read before posting" threads and I will make sure to search the boards before I post a question. I hope to post reliable help / criticism in the Technical Forum / Critics Lounge. I also hope to release my tutorials soon. I also plan release my game to try to be that "1 in 100 newbies release a game". I don't know if it will be good or not, we'll see.I don't know if I'm going to be done with game-making all together after my first game, but we'll see. If I do give it up, it wouldn't be because of you guys here. I have always found AGS Forums inviting and there wouldn't be this community without CJ (the all-time oldie) and other game-making enthusiasts (other oldies, too many to name).

Well time to wrap this up:

***Useless Opinion ^^
**Un-Necessary ^^
*Big Ego > ;D

Well I know I will check this post for replys to my crap here. I don't know if it all made sense because I am kinda trippy right now, but that's another story :). Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Cheers, Jason.

P.S. I have to thank Igu for his recent help with helping me with Talk-Animation. I forgot to thank him. Sorry Igor. I have many others to thank, but I dedicate my next game to those people. Hope to release sometime in August '03!!!

What about a #AGS-Help channel?

In this channel a person could type in a '!' command and a bot would respond asking the problem. The person could type in the problem and then submit it to the bot. Then people would be helped in the order they were recieved by "certified" (lol) AGS scripting/art/etc. techs.

Just an idea.

I really like your style. The boots remind me of wolverine's. I have two questions though.

1) is he a robot?
2) if he is, why would he need to wear a bodysuit and boots?

Otherwise, i hope to see more of your good guy characters. Have you thought more about plot elements? Is it going to be a comedic game about a bunch of slapsticky superheros or will it be a more serious underdog(s) save_the-world type game?

General Discussion / Re:the new ren and stimpy
Mon 30/06/2003 10:01:50
I think that John K. has kinda lost what the original Ren & Stimpy had to offer. I watched the premiere and I have to say it wasn't as funny as I expected it to be. For starters he as made a couple of points for us.

1) Instead of dick and fart jokes, he is going to try to gross-out the viewer at all times (i.e. eating snot, vomit, etc. kissing rat's ass leaving a *film*, etc) for almost the *entire* 1/2 hour episode.
2) Throwing out a possibility that Ren and Stimpy are cross-breeding homosexuals.
3) When moving out of your house, you should give it a good kick in its ball-sack.

When I remember the old episodes, it was dick, fart jokes and mild-grossout humor because it was on Nickelodeon, but they had to also tone things down and they added some clever humor and some slapstick comedy and more of a story.

I can't say I am traumatized for life, but I am wondering if this is what the humor of cartoons are changing to. Maybe John K. has lost it, or maybe he is going to get more creative with it as time goes on (god willing, like the old days). Otherwise, Ren & Stimpy will be a pathetic attempt to be more gross than South Park. (BTW, one of the other cartoons debuted the same day as R&S:APC might already be cancelled, and talks are that there are only 6 New Episodes of R&S:APC)

If anyone outside the U.S. has interest in the originals, go on KaZaa or other File-Sharing program and download some of the episodes. Also, there is a giant story line of what happened behind closed doors and might explain why the new shows are the way they are. Check it out, http://victorian.fortunecity.com/russell/105/storyp.htm

Well everyone, I have made my decision with much deliberation. I have picked both Black Label Entertainment and Cerebral Hemorrhage Ltd. Don't ask why, but everything will be worked out later. I have also decided to take Bob Jones Productions because it was my first company and I might keep it around :).

The rest of these companies on the lists are up for grabs if anyone decides that they need a company name.

Thanks for everyone's c+c and stories as they really helped me decide from all of these companies.

I have to agree with Farlander. I really like #4 because it will be better for playing. What did you use to create these? They are really good.

Updated with the third and final list. C+C and Stories. I've also struckthrough the ones I don't plan on using.

QuoteWhy doesn't anyone just take his/her names and stick Entertainment or Software or Games or something more behind them?
I'm trying to be more original than simpily doing that. Thanks for the idea though.

m0ds: valuable point, but it seems that I, personally, have a more difficult time trying to come up with the names when I don't pair them up with "Games / Software / Entertainment / Productions", but I will try your suggestion and see what I can come up with.

EldKatt: N3TGraph came up with GAS in his reply. Tis why I put it into my list.

Thanks for everyone's c+c. I'm going to work on my final list and we'll see what happens. More c+c and stories though!  :)

I can't wait to see more of these. I hope you clean up the one that you have so that it isn't so dark at the bottom. Is that a scanning problem?

I would love to join up with you, but that would defeat the purpose of this thread  ;)

I want to try the scene by myself for a while. Squink, if I can't handle it, I'll give you a call.

QuoteI kinda think the whole "no pants" thing is over done in this community....

I have to agree with you, but I still like the idea because I have a great idea for a logo, lol.

The two that I really like are No Pants Productions and Grey Matter Productions. I'm pissed that Grey Matter was taken though. I've compiled another list at the top.

Thanks,

one idea is that you should have a day / night cycle so that if the player is playing at night, it would be night out in the game. If the player is playing during the day, it would be day out, etc. For my idea, you would have to create a clock and jsut have simple "if" conditions to specify if it is day or night.

otherwise, you would have to create the in-game clock and set conditions for the times of the clock. great idea, but I have no idea of how I would go about scripting it.

cheers,
Gonzalezj  :)

How did you guys come up with the names for your game production companies?
I'm having a difficult time choosing from my list of companies. I don't know if I want to post them for fear that someone might take one and use it before I do.  :(

geocities is a waste of time. I would recommend getting a site at http://www.freewebs.com. You will be able to upload your game there.
You can also check out http://home.attbi.com/~gonzalezj144/tutorials/install.html for tips on how to create a setup program for your game.

Adventure Related Talk & Chat / Talk Cycles
Mon 16/06/2003 05:34:41
I seem to have a problem animating talk cycles. I don't really have much to show at the moment so that is why I am not providing any pictures. Does anyone know of a tutorial of how to create a talk cycle for my characters?

Thanks!  :)

Thanks Igu. Sorry for not posting a thanks earlier, just me being a newbie. ("NO EXCUSE" - gestapo(ed), lol!)
