AGS Engine & Editor Releases / Re: AGS 3.4.0
Sat 17/09/2016 20:14:03
Thanks for all the handwork and congratulations for the release! I made my first game with AGS 12 years ago! Twelve years and yet the project is thriving by the amazing community and the hard work of a group of amazing dedicated individuals! I can't be any more grateful to you guys!

My update, after 12 years of being here is that I've started my own indie studio http://www.tarbooshgames.com/press, and I'm planning to get back to Adventure Game making in the very near future!

Long live adventure games!

Hi Janet,

First of all, a million thanks to you and to Crimson Wizard on the amazing work you are doing with AGS.

I've managed to compile your fork of the AGS engine, and successfully run previous games that I've compiled with older version of the AGS Editor (prior to 3.0).

However, when trying to load games compiled by the 3.3.3 Engine (which you mentioned was the version you ported), I get a message saying "This game requires a newer version of AGS (3.3.3.0). It cannot be run.", I tried using the 3.3.2 Engine as well, I'm also getting the same message "This game requires a newer version of AGS (3.3.2.0). It cannot be run.".

May I ask which is the latest version of the AGS Editor that can compile with the fork you ported?

Note: I'm using the Gemini Rue Xcode project (as I couldn't find an AGS Xcode project as mentioned in the Wiki) "Duplicate the ags project and open it in XCode (open ags.xcodeproj)".

I hope this made sense.

Regards,

Zoo gate puzzle solution:

Spoiler

- Look at the 'Vending Maching Back' you'll notice a switch for the vending machine that turns it on and off ...
- Turn the switch on and turn the power jack on (When both are open the vending machine light will turn on)
- Put the penney in the slot
- Connect the wire with the vending machine/power jack (after turning off the machine)
- Turn on the machine and the power jack
- Use the pop corn bag with Limby, by click on it in the inventory and
then clicking it again on the corn bag
- Use the dry corn with the 'Hollow' Metal Bar -as a shooter-
- Go behind Micky Mouse statue ...
- Use the 'Loaded' metal bar with the guard
- The guard will come out and once he sees the Cola can he'll pick it up...

Sorry for the bugs in the game! It's really strange though cause I've tested it a few times, and I didn't have a problem!

I'll try to fix it ASAP.

I'm really sorry for this ...

The Solution To The Cage Puzzle

Read below if you are stuck in the cage:

Spoiler

The idea is to drag the guard to a place which;

1. Nobody would see his body if you hit him. (This is the area by the cage door)
2. The Guard himself is distracted by something. (Use the coin on the lettuce that you place there -the fence by the door-)
3. The Guard to the east won't see you hitting him. (Turn on the cover)

Now you should drag the guard to go there by doing the following:

1. Put a lettuce by the cage door. (By putting a lettuce on the fence in that area)
2. Put the coin by the cage door.
3. Put a lettuce by the upper right corner if the cage.
4. Put a lettuce by the westren side of the cage.
5. Put a lettuce by the lower right corner of the cage.
6. Put a lettuce at any place -fence- in the front of the cage. (To get the guard's attention)

When he kneels down to pickup the coin hit him with the metal bar.

Klaus, thanks a lot for your patience with me, I really consider that a success by itself ...

I've had learned lots of lessons from this month's MAGS, and after all I'm happy with myself as I did finish the game after all in about a week of time and within the month of Jan :) and after all I'm so glad that my game will be listed ...

Neil: Congratulations, I really enjoyed your game, keep up the good work,Ã,  I adored the huge number of nice animations in the game, and the water in the fish bowl blew meÃ,  away :) -I managed to finish it without a single hint-

I've just managed to upload and actually finish a few unfinished things on the game, the time now is 4:11 A.M, and I really can't wait to get back home and sleeeeeeeeeep.

The link to the game:

Tomorrow I'll add some info and screen shots, and I'll put a post on the completed games forum.

Klaus, I can never thank you enough for all your hard work and for being so nice, thanks.

Mats Berglinn, thanks a lot man, it's a great advise that you gave, I thought of it, but decided then to finish this entry in time rather than adding more content to it because I'm already participating in the ATC and I want to put all my efforts and pressure on that one instead.

When worse comes to worse ...

That's not the name of my entry, it's just how I would describe my luck with this one ...

Anyways, I really hate when I miss deadlines, below are screenshots of my game, which will be posted online after 10 hours from now, and I hope it gets listed as a JAN-MAGS game, otherwise I'll kill myselfÃ,  :P

My internet service provider decided that today is the time to do some maintenance, and I'm having trouble uploading the game over a 33.6 connection! -I'm in an Internet Cafe' now-

I'll see what I can do to fix this and upload the game ASAP -no longer than 10 hours from now-

Since tomorrow is the deadline for submitting games I want to share my little unfortunate story with you.

At first I decided to participate, then I came up with the story, then I started drawing the scenes, then someone volunteered to do all the art work and animation for the project, and just yesterday Jan-22 he told me that he doesn't have the time and didn't do a thing, I felt extremely disappointed but the good news is that I still have a copy of the first scene that I drew.

Of course I won't be able to make the game in two days specially that I have a full time job and loads of life commitments but I'm pretty sure that I can finish it prior to the end of this month.

If it is to be accepted as an entry to this month's MAGS I'd be so happy, if not I'll finish it anyway but I will be really disappointed.

General Discussion / Re: Happy Eid
Sun 23/01/2005 07:37:03
Happy Eid to everybody.

WanderLady, Muslims only have two holidays, both of them are based on the Lunar CalenderÃ,  (354 days) -which is quite shorter that the Gregorian Calender- and so if holiday X was at November last year it doesn't mean that it has to be in November next year.

The two holidays are Eid Al-Fiter and Eid Al-Adha (If you've assumed that Eid means holdiay then you are correct)

Eid Al-Fiter

Eid-Al-Fitr is one of the major holidays of Islam. It comes at the end of the holy month of Ramadan and celebrates the end of the fasting. The holiday comes on the first day of the 10th month in the Islamic lunar calendar. (In 2005, that is November 4.)

Because the month of Ramadan is all about fasting, Eid-Al-Fitr is all about NOT fasting. During Ramadan, Muslims have not eaten while the Sun is in the sky. On Eid-Al-Fitr, they celebrate the end of Ramadan with a sweet snack and then get ready for a day of celebration.

On this day, Muslims are encouraged to dress in their best clothes and attend a special Eid prayer at their neighborhood mosque. Before the prayer begins, Muslims make an alms payment (the Zakat al Fitr) for the month of Ramadan, in the form of food or its cash equivalent. This food and/or money is then distributed to the poor. After the special religious service, the focus turns to gift-giving. Children are given many gifts. Women get gifts from their loved ones. Also on this day, people are encouraged to settle feuds or disputes, especially those between family members.

Eid Al-Fitr means "Feast of Fast-Breaking." It is often celebrated during three days, with the first day marking the end of Ramadan.

Eid Al-Adha

Eid-Al-Adha is one of the major holidays of Islam. According to Muslim tradition, it celebrates the sacrifice that Abraham was willing to make of his own son Ishmael when he was commanded to show his commitment to Allah. At Allah's direction, the angel Gabriel substituted a lamb for Ishmael, after Allah was convinced that Abraham would indeed sacrifice Ishmael to prove his faith.

On this day, Muslims celebrate in several ways. A large feast is the high point of the day. The name of the holiday, Eid Al-Adha, means "The Feast of the Sacrifice." An animal is sacrificed, in much the same way that Abraham sacrificed a lamb. One-third of the meat is given to the poor, and the rest goes to the holiday feast. Children get gifts to commemorate the holiday, and special prayers are said throughout the day.

Eid Al-Adha takes place on the 10th and last day of the Hajj, the celebration of holy pilgrimage to Mecca, in the 12th month of the Islamic lunar calendar. (In 2005, this is January 21 on Western calendars.) Muslims the world over are encouraged to make a pilgrimage to Mecca and celebrate.

Note

Later on Muslims -not based on Quran but based on their own- celebrated other holidays like the beginning of the Islamic year, the birth of Prophet Mohammed, etc ...

A few of the greetings that can be said during such holidays

Happy Eid (Happy Holiday)
Eid Mubarak (May you have a blessed Holiday)

Can I nominate my game, titled A Tale Of Betrayal ? I did add it to Crow's Nest website through the form in the main page yesterday, and still I can't find it in the list of games to be nominated, could you please add it.

Sorry if I missed the deadline, it is until now that I've heard of the TCN Awards.

Wow, this is super great, if such background was in a commercial game I would surely buy it ...

May I ask how long did it take you to turn the sketch into this master piece? And which software do you use -I assume it's Photoshop-?

Again, great work.

That's a great one Ashen!

Being asked so many times for a walk-thru for this game, I've written one weeks ago. Yet I didn't post it, because I wanted to make additional updates to the game and I wanted the walk-thru to reflect that.

Anyways here is the walk-thru for the current version of the game, and once I'm done with all the additions I'll update the walk-thru as well.

A Tale Of Betrayal Walk-thru in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format
http://ranihasan.atspace.com/Walkthru.pdf

A Tale Of Betrayal Walk-thru in Microsoft Word (DOC) format
http://ranihasan.atspace.com/Walkthru.doc

I'm currently planning for another tale, and on finishing the updates to this one based on the feedback and comments the game received so far.

I hope you enjoy the game ...

Hints & Tips / Re: Tale Of Betrayal
Fri 22/10/2004 15:50:42
Rachel Hamilton, here is how you get rid of the barrel:

Spoiler

(Getting the barrel off your back)

If you look at the barrel you'll notice that there is a small scratch in the upper metal stripe, yet it's not sharp enough to cut the rope. Looking at the inventory you have a ring, now face the door to the right and then USE the Ring with the Barrel.

It's time now to cut the rope using the scratch that you made, so face the Broken Mirror â€"a quick way for doing that is TALKING to the Broken Mirror-, once facing it USE the Rope.

Jen, here is how you do it:

Spoiler

When Shnigle is:

1. Not walking in your direction!
2. Still in your sight!
3. As far as he can be from you!

Then through the applear and it would work!

I hope that helped!

Nath, I sent you the walkthru at the email you provided -nmock@noos.fr-.
