Looks really good.Ã,  I don't have a crit and this may be a little off topic, but I thought I'd share with everyone:

Blizzard is having an art contest for anyone who didn't know:

MI1 & QFG4

Even though I never finished QFG4 (too buggy) and even though I own the anthology I can't play it (my laptop won't run in 256 color mode).

I agree with the above regarding the splash page.  I design corporate web sites for a living, and unless a customer is absolutely stubborn about flash animation, leave it out.  And you should at least have a 'Click to Enter' or something similar.  Your average user (yes, even in 2006) may not know they have to click on the animation.

Also, a quick glance at your page and I noticed you're using all HTML.  If you don't know CSS, learn it.  It will make your life a lot easier as a designer, because you can apply styles across a site without having to define every paramater a tag has every time you use it.

Thanks for the input.  I like the paintover, in fact I think I'll use it if you don't mind.  I'm reworking the front view so it has more character and isn't symetrical.

Critics' Lounge / Main Character Help

Hey boys and girls.Ã,  I can't remember the last time I posted here, and when I did I didn't say much.Ã,  But I'm starting work on a small game with AGS.Ã,  I have this character I've been working on but I need some opinions...I want something that's easy to animate, which is why I didn't shade the character.Ã,  So here's my character:

He's supposed to be a slightly dim-witted, somewhat clumsy, superhero.

Comments?

I'm by no means an expert so take this with a grain of salt...that being said...

I'm not a big fan of the background and how the grass/sky line is blurred.  I think it would look better matching the rest of the bg's style.  But maybe it's just a personal thing.

Otherwise...great background.  I really enjoy it.

I like it...think I'll use it, kind of a washed out look.

Thanks!

Any C+C would be helpful.Ã,  This one is going to be mainstream.Ã,  Has anyone ever dealt with setting up an eShop?

They're evenly spaced but they're not...the text is inside a cell that's 80px wide, so if the text is longer or shorter it gives the illusion of being mis-spaced.  And that's not even our field, ha.  It's a place holder for our latest pictures which I don't have yet.  Thanks for the C+C!

Critics' Lounge / Web site for C+C

I know most of the stuff on the lounge is game related but I was looking for some honest C+C on this web site:

Thanks!

P.S.Ã,  It's just layout right now, I still have a lot of info and media to add.

I really dig the background but the big red arrow is bothering me.  It seems to take away from the rest of the room.  Unless there's a hidden agenda behind it, I'd say drop it like 3rd period math class.  Sometimes less is more.   What 3D program are you using to animate that guy in?  It seems like it would be difficult to animate his legs without having to lengthen and shorten them as they move because he has no hip bone, therefore no pivot points for his legs to bend at.  In essence, if it were real, the legs wouldn't be able to bend at the waist.

So I updated the top and was wondering if the background style would be good for an AGS style game?Ã,  I know using just shadows for backgrounds may get difficult but what do you all say?Ã,  Would this style make for a nice game on both backgrounds and characters?

I've already fixed the hands.  I'm at work and I'll post a new version when I get home later.  I really liked that tutorial.  I basically just used the style and ran with it.

Scummbuddy - Did you do your picture in Flash or Freehand/Illustrator?  I was using Illustrator because I've been using it for a few years now.  Have you tried animating your character yet?

Hey this is a guy I made in Illustrator loosely based on a tut I found on the Macromedia site.Ã,  I plan on importing it into After Effects and making animations that I could export individual frames for a game.Ã,  What do you all think?

Update: This is the updated version.Ã,  I flopped the hand around and added some small details.Ã,  The background is the style I'm going to try and stick with.Ã,  Any crits?

I like it.  Sounds kind of like villagey music from a Sqauresoft RPG.  Maybe just add some hi-hats and then when it picks up add a bass drum and maybe a light snare.  Keep it up!

These look great!  I do agree they need to have some light put on them though.  PS What program did you make them in?

I like it....BUT a few things I've noticed...

In the up walk cycle his right leg doesn't come off the ground and makes him look like he's hopping on one leg.  And I think both background could benefit from some added detail...maybe a telephone pole or pay phone on the street and a drain coming off the sidewalk...possibley even a manhole cover in the street and perhaps more windows or a sign on the taller building.  It's unlikely that a building on a main street like setting would only have one large picture window if it's a highrise or multi-floor.  The second background could possibley benefit from a few more detailed items strategically placed in the room...also noticed the two old guys playing checkers feem in adequate in size compared to the table and the water cooler looks evtremely large.  Well that's my 10 cents.  Take it as it is.

Overall, I like the style.  Simple and to the point.  Keep up the good stuff!

Looks awesome. Ã, Original plot and I especially like the ability to sneak and hide in the shadows... Ã, This game looks like it could be a contender. Ã, Nice graphics by the way, they make the game look like a late 1800's Sherlock Holmes-esq story.
