Critics' Lounge / Re: Ghost from the Future

Quote from: JimmyShelter on Tue 19/12/2006 20:55:18It doesn't exactly look like a 'ghost' though.

If he's a ghost from the future does that mean he's not died yet and so shouldn't look like a ghost at all? Or maybe he hasn't even been born yet... trippy ;)

I'm not too keen on the outer glow, it looks kinda sludgy around the smaller letters. Have you tried changing the colour of the letters after the A to contrast them with the background a little more? Oh, and is it supposed to read Aventurama or should it be Adventurama?

It sounds very similar to self harming to me, which is something I've had experience of with people close to me. If when your friend was younger she felt she couldnt, or didn't want to, talk to anyone abour her family problems then making herself sick (much like people cutting or burning themselves) could have seemed like the only thing that helps her to feel better.

When things started to go well again she stopped. But when the problems with her boyfriend started it would be very easy to relapse, because she remembers that making herself sick makes her feel better.

When my friend harmed herself I managed to get her to see a doctor, she was prescribed antidepressants and visits to a cousellor were arranged. The long and short of it is she's better now and has been for the past couple of years.

If you can you should get your friend to see a doctor and explain everything to them. They will know what the problem is and how to overcome it.

Here's a walkthrough for BJ5 - http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=25869.60

It's the huge spoiler post about half way down the page.

The walkcycles incredible, I actually burst out laughing at the "up" walk animation. The graphics as everyone has said are awful and there are loads of bugs but at least your enthusiastic about making games. If you make any more - which I have no doubt you will - I'll play them.

But for the love of Jeff please work harder on the characters and backgrounds... you must be able to do better.

Nice one Artphreak, I haven't read it all but there's one thing I noticed towards the end that could be changed.

Spoiler
Just a minor thing but I would include what you have to do if you don't ask Simon to come with you to the Yamamoto biulding.

Hmm, stuck again.

Spoiler
I've snuck into the building (that I can't remember the name of) through the sewer but now I'm just aimlessly wandering around and can't figure out what to do.

Okay, I know it's dismal that I need help so early but what can I say? I'm rubbish  :'(  ;D

Spoiler
I'm in the police station, I've spoken to the desk sergeant, Yoshi and the guys in the evidence room and I've taken the note from the message board but I can't figure out how to get the victims names from evidence. I also have the request form, but how do you get Yoshi to sign it?

I was able to post a couple of comments so it's not a problem with the site.

Crackin' backgound! As well as the suggestions Seleceus and DanClarke made there are a couple of minor details that I noticed.

1. I think at least one of the windows above 1 should be lit. Surely at lease the left most would be part of the same room as the lit window of the same building - I know this is very minor but I thought I'd mention it.

2. The door next to 2 has no path up to it, again very minor but meh.

I agree, its a stupid rule not being able to recover old threads if the thread is worthwhile.

I don't think the mods would have a problem with old threads being posted in if what's being posted is worthwhile.

I'm they would be on your case if you post something unnecessary though,

FYI David Tennant has only appeared very briefly on British television as Dr. Who (when Ecclestone (sp?) turned in to him). He'll be in a christmas special as the doctor and then in a new series in 2006.

Yeah I see that looking at it again... I didn't have access to the internet or the side anim for a couple of days so I was going by guesswork more than anything.

New version coming up...

Well the first things that caught my eye were that the hair and blood from his neck stay in the "just-hit-with-a-huge-girder" position for much longer than they should. Also the body would probably bend forwards instead of back and the legs would certainly move.
Come to think of it the girder (or whatever it is) would have to be going a lot faster to knock his noggin clean off.

It all seems to be moving at an odd speed... the girder, head splat and dropping broefcase look too slow imo and the bending of the body and the blood falling is too fast.

Pod's right about it being 'one of those things' and it had improved the bg.

Two things that stick out to me as not quite right are the lightest parts of the right side of the tent and the grass around the roots of the tree.

A quick p/o:

Also the blood is still too bright imho but it's tricky to get right because making it darker only blends it in with the dirt.

After a lot of messing around in Photoshop and ImageReady I've come up with a half way decent front walk cycle:

I've just started on the front walkcycle. I'll post it here later today or tomorrow... most likely tomorrow as it's gonna be a bitch to get right  ::)

He! Out of topic, but I've read "Good gay webspace?" at the first glance...  :)

Well if that's what you're after, try HomoHost.com  :)

P.S. I have no idea if that site exists so don't blame me if your scarred for life by it's possible content  ;)
