I really love them, very peacefull (makes me close my eyes and smile), i especially like the raggae one althought i would take back the voice if i had to use it in a game, but that's me :)

Yeah thank you all for the "coloring" and "levels" tips, that will be very usefull to me, i'm going to work on this and see if i can end up with a decent background.
I'll show a colored version if its not too ugly.

Thanks for the replies, i''ll draw with thinner pencils next time and then tinit it like you said G.
I'm using the Gimp because that's the only choice i have with Linux =P
I'm not sure about how to make the outline(i tried with bezier curves and then filling with color or gradient but it doensn't look like it was hand drawn anymore), i wish i could render it like some other drawings i ve seen on this board!

Here are 2 backgrounds i tried to draw with my poor skillsÃ,  ,i know this is just a concept for now but i need some critics and advice to improve them.
Its supposed to be an hermit's house on an island and some strange stones in the jungle

Ã,  Ã,

I'd like to colorize them as well but i don't know how to do it :-\ maybe i ll have to paint over with gimp...

Same here, i've always waned to see Star Wars fan games and the backgrounds look great!
Good luck with that  project ;)

She looks cute, nice work!
Btw Loominous, how have you done to make the lines that clean, i have gimp and i'd like to do the same.

I use irfanview (win32) to convert images because it supports almost any format and has a fast mass conversion tool, very usefull when you have like 300 pics to convertÃ,  ;)
For linux i have ImageMagic, a bit complicated but very usefull (can create gifs).

Very nice, i like your style althought i think the wood texture is ugly (i don't like textures in general )
I also love the ones you made and posted in "games in prod" and wish you'll finish your game soon so we can enjoy it!

Advanced Technical Forum / Scroll and fade
Fri 20/08/2004 04:04:36
Hi all,

I was trying to make an intro for my future game and had a few problems to make the text fade in and out and scroll so i wrote a little function.

You must write your text on, let's say a pink background and import it as a sprite, make an object with it and set it to invisible, then call the function.

/*

obj = object number
x,y = object position
z =Ã,  scrolling up
speed = 0-fast 10-slow

-Chronos

*/

function scrollnfade(int obj, int x, int y, int z,int speed)
{
int i=0;
SetObjectPosition(obj,x,y);
SetObjectTransparency(obj,100);
ObjectOn(obj);
Ã,
while(i<100)
{
SetObjectTransparency(obj,100-i);
Wait(7);
i=i+5;
}

i=0;
while(i<z)
{
Ã,  SetObjectPosition(obj,x,y-i);
Ã,  Wait(speed);
Ã,  i++;
}

i=0;
while(i<100)
{
SetObjectTransparency(obj,i);
Wait(7);
i=i+5;
}

}

(i'm currently coding a "scroll and fade" at the same time, if you want the code i ll post it here)

I hope this can help, bye!

Nice style! But maybe the walls of the house could use another color than dirt.

Viktor: Really nice, but i'm far from that result...and the framerate is too fast for me to see the detailsÃ,  :-\Ã,  (i will look for a gif extractor maybe)
I guess i'd have to add frames to front/back view too...

Darth Mandarb: Wow! I like those shading effects and the volume it adds! I'll also remember the way you checked the perspective for later use ;)

Thank you all! This is really helping a lotÃ,  Ã, :)

Sry i hadn't read the other story, that was a coincidence.

That's the problem actually,he looks like he's either kicking someone's ass or about to knee down as you said, i'm having a lot of trouble with the side walkcycle but i might end up with something acceptable.

You hurry back to the town to find your horse.At the entrance you see an old man sitting on floor and ask him if he saw your horse arround, the old man informs you that he saw Henry (the local bartender) taking it to the back of the saloon.As you know Henry won't give it back,you prepare your gun,load the 2 bullets in it and head for the saloon.
You notice that there seems to be a lot of Henry's friends inside so you fix the hook to the long rope and use it to reach the 2nd floor where Henry's girl is being held and start climbing.You hit her at the back of her head while she's asleep and tie her up with the short rope.You then escape from the room the same way you got in,Ã,  put the girl on the horse that was quietly waiting here and start looking arround...
That's when you see something that loooks like an alcoohol barrel, you open it and start spreading the liquid all arround the saloon, but when you are about to fire up your only match, Henry comes out from the salloon with 2 friends holding guns.Henry looks really upset and start aiming at you!
You quickly take you gun and shoot the 2 guys that were close to him.. that's when you hear that annoying sound "clic" meaning your out of bullets!
Henry shoots you in the shoulder, you're now lying on the floor, holding your shoulder ,raging.Henry is making fun of you, he comes closer and closer until he's just above you,he aims at you again... but this time you have the reflex to take an axe that was on the floor(dont ask why ;) and cut his legs off!
You now stand up and laugh at that bastard screaming while he's looking at the cut legs next to him hehe
That wound you got hurts badly so you take the hook and try to extract the bullet out of your shoulder.You use your old whiskey bottle to clean up your wound and get your horse back with the girl on it, giving up your 3 dollars to that poor agonising Henry for his legs =)
Of course you pick up your last match on the floor and light it...look arround a last time...and finally throw it on the floor.

The whole place is slowly burning and turning into ashes as you disappear on the horizon with the girl by your side! You take your tobacco and mix it with some shamanic weed (first bonus item) and roll it with some paper(2nd item) but hey f***! I used my last match!

I have a full time job, a girlfriend and i can still find some time to work on a game..
This is like i've read in another post: "There's nothing a good cup of coffee can't solve".
Making a game is the funniest thing!It involves imagination,intelligence and art.
On top of that, it allows you to make people feel various emotions through the atmosphere of the plot,backgrounds and chars.
I'm quite confident i'll finish mine and hope you will too!
