Good luck with production. Any date for release in mind yet? Or too soon to thing about it? :)
Still a bit soon to think about because we have a lot to do still. Backgrounds are largely complete (bar one), and mostly animated, but I still need to animate portraits, and do additional animations for sprites (though walkcycles are all done).

Then there is all the programming of course :)

Congrats to all! And thanks to those who ran the ceremony and the whole process; it was very well done this year :)

Good luck! And hey, if you don't win, remember, you can just update your game next year into a "deluxe" version, give it a new db page and enter it again (wtf) (laugh)
To be fair, ATOTK doesn't even set this precedent - Technobabylon was also a remake.

This sort of comment dismisses the amount of effort we put into updating the game - with organising voice recording and editing, painting several backgrounds from scratch, redoing many many sprite frames and adding in extra animations, rewriting of the script, and not to mention reprogramming it all (especially with the updated background layouts, and all the wandering NPCs and different actions that occur on the same screen(s) at different points in time, this isn't trivial). We didn't make the Deluxe edition for the purpose of winning AGS awards either - we did it because we felt the game deserved an update and also needed one to be fit for a commercial release.

Also, in the For Your Consideration thread, you may have noticed that Radiant didn't ask to be nominated in every category (and I certainly didn't nominate for more than what he listed, and I put down a bunch of other games too). Getting nominated in so many categories was very much a surprise for us, so we are happy that the broader AGS community is supportive of the game.

Good luck to all that are nominated! There are certainly many interesting games on the list :)

ATOTK will be released some time after Leylines is released (it's a non-AGS 4X strategy game: http://store.steampowered.com/app/585820 , in case anyone's interested in our other projects).

Spoiler
Personally, I told Radiant it'd be cool if we can release ATOTK exactly on its 10 year anniversary, which is mid year :)). But we'll have to see whether we can actually make that date.

Hi everyone,

We are pleased to announce that we are officially working on a deluxe version of A Tale of Two Kingdoms!

A Tale of Two Kingdoms is a graphical adventure in the style of the classic Sierra games. Set in the world of Celtic mythology and fairy tales, it features many sidequests and alternate endings. For this new release, we are doing a Deluxe Edition with a new interactive prologue, several graphic updates, and professional voice acting.

The ancient kingdom of Theylinn is beset by enemies. Within the castle walls, nobles vie for the old King's favor, and not everybody is happy with the sole heir to the throne, princess Rhiannon. Meanwhile, danger approaches, in the form of an invading army, a hostile giant, and a mercenary troop who are ancient enemies of the Theylann king...

Kingdom of Sorrow was originally meant to be a King's Quest fan game (based on the book), but a lot of the backgrounds and a lot of sprites were completely original.

Basically what happened was that work stopped on KOS not because of copyright issues, but because there wasn't much direction with the project. After QFI was completed, it was decided to use the unused graphics from KOS, touch them up, and make OOTT: TKC out of them.

A similar thing happened with A Tale of Two Kingdoms - it originally started out as KQ2.5 fan game, but the original initiator of the project became absent, and eventually we decided that it would be better to make an original game rather than piggy backing off the Sierra name. Again, the art was original, so it was a matter of Radiant putting together a story and coming up with characters and puzzles.

You could potentially retain aspects of the work you've already done (e.g. changing backgrounds from KQ4 so that they aren't overtly familiar), and likewise changing character design/colours; that way you can call the art original and not infringing on copyright. (I know some people claimed that Heroine's Quest sprites were ripped, but really it was all done by hand with obvious nods to certain poses and animations).

That said, the chance of receiving a C&D for doing a remake is probably not that high, as long as you're not beating up the game to the point where Activision become concerned about it. And if you're not making money off it, I doubt that they can get much out of you -- however, I agree that it is usually better to save yourself the potential trouble, and it is definitely more rewarding (and more to learn) if you work on your own original project :)

Once the faerie realm is no longer accessible, it means you can't go back to talk to Blossom anymore. So the quest is no longer solvable. I assume you've already befriended the rogue? Other than that, I can't recall if there was anything else you needed to do; it has been several years since I played the game.

QuoteIf you're talking about the one the rogue character lives in then I already know about that one
Yep, that's the one.

The boat in the town docks is just for decoration only

Spoiler
You may have noticed something a little odd about the rogue. Just need to confirm that he's the changeling's other half / the fae that the changeling was switched with.
