I did not download the Java Plugin, but I found a java-free version of Sudoku at www.zeit.de/sudoku. I had a look at it and I knew instantly that this is not the kind of game I like to solve.

My answer of today's easy level was correct though. Couldn't stop.  :)

I like that song, it starts with some kind of ragtime feeling and turns into something that makes me think of a sailor playing accordeon  :)

And by the way - I feel that a metronome is good for practicing and training your timing, but not for the actual playing. That's why I keep mine next to the drumset and rarely by the piano.

Yesterday I started that 1000 pieces StarWars puzzle game, and I can't help but seeing a certain analogy  :)

Ashen: I thought "let's try a new reel" meant a film reel, as in "here's that new Asterix movie". Not sure though.

Thanks again to all of you helping. And don't you think that this song has something to it? Some kind of charm that "Asterix est là " doesn't even halfway reach?

Oh, and I'm curious: I'm not sure about that Beatles cover band thing anymore. Can anybody tell if this is really the kind of accent you would find in the Liverpool area?

Wow, thanks a lot to both of you!
This is a big step forward, although large parts of the text still don't quite reveal their sense to me  :)
But hey - I absolutely love the vocal part of that song, and I suppose it'll be a great practice.

Hi folks!
I hope you can help me out with a little problem. I have been searching for the lyrics of the "Asterix in Britain" movie title theme for days, unfortunately to no avail. The song is basically the same as "Astérix est là ", but it has this fancy Beatles-style arrangement and a different text.

Now - we'd love to play this song in our band, but as a foreign listener I have not been able to work out the lyrics on my own. I guess the singer has some sort of British accent (I heard they hired a Beatles cover band for that one), so I thought some of you could help me on my way to finding the lyrics.
Hey, it will be FUN and all! :D

Here's what I've got so far, mostly for your amusement and to show that I have invested at least some work myself:

---

The lookout is out
let out of it, shout, maybe we're all at tea (?)
there's room for more
the room is [...], it just won't work with me
it's a-mission time (we'll talk about it later)
while I play [...] (just sit back)
watch the story [...] (we've all been told to go now)
so the ticket back is blackjack

It's anybodys deal, lets try a new reel
and maybe something I've gonna [...]
the [...] is now on you, lets try something new
and maybe someone can turn a new wheel

the lookout is out
let out of it, shout, maybe we're all at tea (??)
fade out on the moon
its a-soon to tell, it just won't work with me
expedition time (we'll take [...])
try another line (it's allright)
seek a different [...] (we'll sing a song about it)
things will be just fine, there's no fight <-- that one might be correct :)

It's anybody's deal, let's see how you feel
and maybe something, I've [...]
the [...] is now on you, let's try something new
and maybe someone can turn a new wheel

----

I'm not too pleased with myself, honestly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Discussion / Re: Friday the Thirteen

I had a flight to London with some friends from geography class, and some newspaper lying around in the tube stated that it was probably the hottest day of the year. Can't really blame anything on friday 13th, except for this strange "The Tempest" play in Globe Theater, where you are not allowed to sit on your bagpack, as you are supposed to be standing if you have a yard ticket.

Oh, the night on Stansted airport trying to get some sleep was horrible. But that was already on Saturday morning.

Try looking for a film named "Panic in the Skies!", yet another you-got-to-bring-down-this-airplane movie. If it's only half as hilarious as the german translation, it'll be a great source of fun.
Man, I was laughing so hard I could hardly breathe.  :)

Thanks a lot for the links, everybody!

After having a quick glance at all the sites, the drawingboard seemed the most suitable to me, but indeed there's plenty of resources on all  of the others too, and they'll surely find their way into my own bookmarks, if only for my weekly I-wish-I-could-do-this-myself sessions.  ;)

Some of the sites seem to focus a lot on photoshopping, which is not quite what Luke does to his drawings, it's mostly just hand-drawn, colored and scanned. (He's more of a playstation guy than a computer nerd.  ;))

OT: Darn, if only I could sort out my upload problems, so I could give you an example, but FTP uploads tend to stop at 97%, just like DCC sends. Mail attachments miraculously work though. I still blame it on my ISP.

Hi fellow artists,

my younger brother spends a lot of his time drawing comic characters and as far as I can tell he has become pretty good at it (though I might be just a little bit biased). Whenever he comes to me with another work done, I usually go like "Hey, that's even better than the last one. You should really show that to somebody who knows this stuff."

As this is not exactly adventure-related, (though I would love to hire him as my art director), I thought I'd ask if anyone of you knows some kind of community that would allow him to upload his stuff to get some opinions and criticism. I know about deviantart.com, but when I browsed the site I felt a bit lost, as it covers such a broad range of works.

So - any ideas?

General Discussion / Re: About soundfonts
Sun 06/03/2005 20:42:21
Erm - sorry to tell you, but the SoundBlaster 128 doesn't support soundfonts. The first SoundBlaster to use soundfonts is, as far as I know, the SB Live! Series.

The only solution would be to import the soundfonts into a software sampler such as the EXS24 that comes with Emagic's Logic, but we're talking about some really expensive stuff here.

Does anybody know of any free solutions?

I tried disabling my sound card but it all worked fine (albeit with no sound).

Eh - yeah, same for me. Actually, the problem occurs when 'primary sound device' is selected, which is set to the M-Audio soundcard in the windows multimedia settings.

Okay, I played around with the setup a bit and found that setting the MIDI Interface to 'no music' or 'MIDI mapper' (what is a midi mapper?) makes the game start up correctly. Looks like the game crashes because it tries to initialize a non-existant MIDI playback device.

Still - no MIDI music, but that's soundcard-related, so I'll have to see if I can find a decent software wavetable solution for that.
Thanks for helping out.

Hi everybody,
after some time of not working on my game, I got an error message when I tried to test the game, so I updated from 2.56 to 2.62, but still this message occurs when I try to test the game or start the .exe file in the compiled folder:

An exception 0x0000005 occured in ACWIN.EXE at EIP = 0x004ACC3A; program pointer is -182, ACI version 2.62.772, gtags(0,0)

I have a feeling this could be related to my new soundcard (M-Audio Audiophile 2496), which does not have a MIDI device.
Oh, and since christmas I have a new CD-ROM/DVD drive. I can't think of any reason why it could interfere with AGS though.

Any ideas?

Does this happen to anybody else?

Something is wrong with the link you provided.

Hmm, strange. Clicking the link directly, "Save Target As" and copying the url into winamp all works perfectly for me.
What happens when you click the link?

Has the deadline been extended after the breakdown of the forums?

Anyway, I finished this before november 1st, promise. :)

Autumn.mid

And by the way - first tune contest entry ever.

Great to see the forums back online.

BUT - The fact that the forums go down and come back without the competitions forum just when - for the first time - I had planned to enter the tune contest and actually made a midi makes me believe in murphy's law again.Ã,  :)

The show is called the Stunksitzung (www.stunksitzung.de), but I highly doubt it was composed especially for that purpose. This show has started out as a spoof of carnival shows and used to be a very local event, broadcasted by a local german station only.

EDIT: I just found it: After The Fire - 1980 F

General Discussion / Help me find a song
Sun 10/10/2004 19:46:41
Hi there,
I'm on a desperate search for the name of a song that has been haunting me for ages. It's quite popular - it is played as the intro song of a show on tv every now and then - but I could never find out what the name of the song is or who wrote/played it.

In an attempt to bring this to an end,Ã,  I've thrown together a little midi file for you to listen to. Maybe that there's someone out there who knows it and can tell me what it's called.

It's made by ear without any reference and I had to cut it down to 37 secs, but the important parts are there. I'm not sure if the ending is original, they've played it like that in the tv show I was talking about. Maybe they only wanted to bring it to a quick end.Ã,  :)

Anyway, does it ring a bell for someone?
