Thanks for all the input up to this point.  I guess the reason I thought of GK was because I'm just finishing up reading the first novel, than I'm gonna reread Beast Within.  Good books.  I'll repost here when I've edited the story.

I've got an idea for a game.  It's been floating around in my head all week.  It's a prequel to the gabriel knight series.  Here's the basic idea:

High school senior Gabriel Knight has everything: the girls, the looks, and the popularity.  Life can't get any better.  So when he is assigned to write a report on people's belief in the paranormal, he figures it'll be a cakewalk.  But what starts out as a simple report on the supposed "Theatre ghost" turns into something much more sinister.  It's up to Gabriel and his friend, School quarterback Mosely, to figure out the truth behind the school, and the secrets that lie in its past.

Suggestiond for improvement would be greatly appreciated.

OK.Ã,  Thank you up to this point for the ideas.Ã,  I have just finished version 2 of my story.Ã,  A lot of things have changed.Ã,  Ã, The game will not intertwine with King's Quest, and when you read the new storyline, I think you will know why.

Crusader: Elemental Origins

Many years ago there existed four crystals, one for each of the elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth.Ã,  These crystals kept peace and order throughout the land.Ã,  Until one day a dark wizard stole these crystals, so that their powers could be used to revive his master.Ã,  But according to legend, a man born from the crystals, and armed only with his family’s enchanted dagger, stepped forward and defeated the wizard, and restored peace and order throughout the land.

Many years passed, and the crystals became nothing more than legend.

Now it is the year 2010.Ã,  A man by the name of Leon comes home one night to find his family savagely murdered.Ã,  The only thing stolen was his wife’s necklace and his family’s dagger.Ã,  Not knowing the true power of either, Leon and his friend, detective Jack Archer, begin to search for the killer.Ã,  But Leon is about to find out the truth behind his ancestors, and the power that he possesses...

If you think something else should change, please don't hesitate to tell me.

P.S. If you recognize the name of the detective, let me know!
(hint: It was a PS2 game from TDK,  Air Combat-type game)

I was thinking and thought of this for a story twist that maybe the crusader was in fact created from the crystals, making him have some supernatural abilities, like walk on water, manipulate fire, air travel(aka the map), and create pathways, but these powers can only be used after being awakened at the four elemntal temples.  Even then, he can only use them in certain spots.

As for why the wizard stole the crystals, he knows of the crusader and plans to create an army of elemantal warriors to take over the kingdom.

And yes, the wizard is the crusader's father, but only because the wizard is the fifth element, and was turned evil by the wizard mordack, which is how I plan on tying in King's Quest.

Well I was toying with the idea of making the crusader interact with the land of daventry (aka King's Quest).

as far as gameplay twists, i was considering a map that allows you to magically transport to certain places, but only after you have gone there, similar to KQ6.

Me and my friend would always ride the bus home from school.  If he got sick of me talking he would start repeating the word "Slosh," a word from a play that I directed in school.  I would counteract with "42" from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Later on....

I was trying to think of a cool design name to create games.  So I took the s from slosh and added 42.  Thus S 42 studios was born.  And seeing as I am the only person in it right now, i call myself S42man.

I have been toying with this idea from making it a TI-83+ RPG to making it an adventure game.Ã,  I decided to make it an adventure game and wanted to know what people thought.

Crusader: Elemental Quest

In a time long ago, there existed four crsytals.Ã,  These crystals kept the balance of the elements: Wind, Water, Earth, and Fire.Ã,  Until one day the crystals were stolen by a dark wizard who planned to destroy the world with the crystals awesome power.Ã,  The kingdom in chaos, one man stepped forward to challenge the evil.Ã,  This man, armed with nothing but a dagger set out to retrieve the crystals, and restore peace and order to the land.Ã,  And he was simply known as...

Crusader

Coming soon from S 42 Studios

I really want to know what you think.

EDIT
Okay, so I get the feeling people are not reading my post that states my edited story, so here it is:

Crusader: Elemental Origins

Many years ago there existed four crystals, one for each of the elements: Fire, Water, Air, and Earth.  These crystals kept peace and order throughout the land.  Until one day a dark wizard stole these crystals, so that their powers could be used to revive his master.  But according to legend, a man born from the crystals, and armed only with his family’s enchanted dagger, stepped forward and defeated the wizard, and restored peace and order throughout the land.

Many years passed, and the crystals became nothing more than legend.

Now it is the year 2010.  A man by the name of Leon Cook comes home one night to find his family savagely murdered.  The only thing stolen was his wife’s necklace and his family’s dagger.  Not knowing the true power of either, Leon and his friend, detective Jack Archer, begin to search for the killer.  But Leon is about to find out the truth behind his ancestors, and the power that he possesses...

This is the new storyline, so tell me what you think.

Gotta love gabriel Knight 1, not only for the cachy music, wicked plot, and cool characters, but for the PIXELATED DEATH SCENES!!!!!!! Yes BLOOD!!!!!. number 3's good too, but the moving around gets annoying, and grace just doesnt sound the same as in the first. (Havnt played the second, but then again, who has i asks?)
I know this is old, but what do you mean "Who was i asks?"Ã,  If you did not know, The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery was voted as the best adventure game, best story, and game of the year in 1995.

I say that the Broken Sword Series(especially Smoking Mirror) and the Gabriel Knight Series(2 and 3 on top) are tied for the best, while the King's Quest Series is a close 2nd.
