If it's better than The Grudge, I'll be happy.

I stubbed my toe last night, and THAT was better then The Grudge.

I've never read this comic, nor do I know anything about Frank Miller,  But from the few previews I've seen of this film, it looks amazing.  I've always been a fan of super stylized movies and I'm thrilled to see them making there way into the mainstream.

That being said:  Robert Rodriguez has done anything that stands out in my mind.  The only film of his I've ever actually seen was Once Apon a Time in Mexico, which was just "meh"  and I know he did Spy Kids which I'm sure I'll never see.  I'll wait to reserve judgement of the actuall directing of the film untill after I see it, but I'm already a fan of the look of the film, and will go see it just for that.

Welcome to 2005...

I'm not sure what you ment by that, but the reason most of us are here is because of our love of older games.  I think this fits perfectly here.

Well my new addiction is Freespace 2, which is now avalible on HotUD as abandonware,  I guess even
the sourcecode has been released.  If you haven't played this space sim, you really should,
it's one of the best space combat sims I've ever played.

The version on HotUD is a CD rip, so it's hinky to get it working and it's missing voice,
music and some of the movies, but these are avalible from other sources,
and I'll soon be hosting the voice and files on my site to spread the wealth.

I highly recommend this one.  If you get it and can't make it work, PM, IM, or email me
and I'll walk you through how to get it to work on your Win XP box.  To get the core game files (219mb),
just do a quick search on Home of the Under Dogs, and get the Bit Torrent download.

Also, this game comes with a mission maker, so you can make your own custom campaigns.
Another up-shot of this is that I've found hundreds of user made campaigns and
full mods for free on the internet (again get in touch with me for links and what-not)
that seem well thought out and very nicely made.

And now for some eye candy yummyness:

there are dozens of ships that you get to fly...  I've barely scratched the surface

this is how the "menu" system works, compleate with nifty animations

now THATS what I'm talking about !

you should see what happens when those beam weapons hit your little fighter

All in all, this game gets a 10 out of 10 in my book, the missions are challanging,
you required to think as well as fight your way through them.
The storyline branches and your performance is rewarded.  Download it today!

PS, if you need help getting things up and runnning or finding files you might want,

I keep most of the old timers locked safely in my basement while I figure out how to clone their brains...

... ok, so the brain thing was a lie.

Seriously, alot of the old timers are on my MSN list.   I know several of them have full time crareer track jobs, or are in school to get career type jobs  and a few of them sit around playing counter-strike for days on end.

except for rodekill, him I actually keep in my basement on a steady diet of homeless people and cheap gin untill he finishes Rodekill 2, and makes the rust spin-off game I really want.

...Anyhoo, I saw Constantine last night...

And how was Constantine anyway? it looks fairly interesting, but it will be strange to Reeves in a movie where he might have some dialouge thats more then 3 line or: "what do I do? how will I know?  choice..."  and of course "woah!"

Judging by the trailer, the hitchhiker's movie looks like it's gonna be awsome.  I think it's too early to pass totall judgement on either of these movies, and remember they are one visual interpretation of the books, so of course it's not going to look exactly like you wanted it too, unless you made the film.

Redwall: this is quite real, it's been in the news (what little information they'll let the public have that is) for quite some time, and yes, it really is called the matrix.

There is no one more dead set agenst this then I.  I am a law abiding citizen, I am a member of the workforce contributing to society, I pay my taxes and I'm generally an all around good guy.

I do not wan the government keeping track of how much and what kind of porn I buy, how much I drink, how often I buy condoms, how many traffic tickets I've gotten or any financial trouble I've been in and then packaging it up in a nice, neat commercial database that will be exploited and used agenst me just as fast as the money can change secret numbered accounts.  Power currupts and absolute power currupts absolutely.  This database would equal absolute power over the common citizen from the government.

Doesn't sound a whole lot like a democracy to me.  Not to sound cliche: but this has 1984 written all over it.

See, in my view, Paul Anderson is a decent directer. He has a decent sense of visual style, he can convey a story sucessfully in a visual format and he can get a good perfomance from his cast and crew.  To top it off he's written/directed several movies I like quite a bit.

Uwe Boll, on the other hand, is a disgrace to the medium of film.  He's also somewhat of an insperation:  If he can get studio's to let him direct, then any number of the asipring filmmakers that hang out here should be able to as well.  The difference being that given our chance, we're more apt to accomplish something of merrit with the opertunety.  I know that if someone gave me 12 million to make my first film, I wouln't blow it all on worthless f/x shots ripped directly from the matrix to prop up a video game film who's plot was never fully translated into english in the first place (I'm speaking of course,  of Uwe Boll's disasterpiece: House of the Dead).

I'm genuniely curious as to how he's managed to get both the rights AND the funding for these gems and and where the logic to hand over a brand as well know as Alone in the Dark to a director who's work goes direct to video more often then most porn productions came from.  I understand that having the right firends in the entertainment industry can get you places, but these studios are ultimatly in business to make money, which flat out isn't happening with any project Uwe Boll is at the helm of.

I'd really like to see good directors taking on these game to movie projects, I think lots of games have interesting storylines that could spawn great movies given the proper vision.  On the flip side I'd also like to see good directors taking up game projects and possibly ushering in a new era of truly interactive fiction.

To sum up:  I  hate Uwe Boll, I think he's going to kill an entire genre before it ever has time to really develop.  At the same time he gives me hope that I can one day fulfill my dream of directing films.  After all, if he can do it anyone can do it and probably do it better.

And thats my rant.

How is it that Uwe Boll continues to con studios into letting him direct anything over then the parking lot traffic?  The mans career has been one disaster after another.  Is he some kind of tax write-off or something?  Seriously, can anyone tell me how this man got into this business?  because if he can put out nothing but pure crap, I ought to be able to get a job with the 1 year of film school I have...
