Well, here's my entry.
If anyone's interested, I've kept a diary on my blog.

*salesmanagerial mode on*

TwinMoon presents:

UNINTELLIGENT DESIGN

What if God did design the world? What if miracles did happen daily? What if God had a bad day, that first week?
Big questions.

This game won't answer those questions.
But it will use it as a setting, on which our heartfelt story will take place. The story of two (relatively) young go-getters, whose house didn't turn out as they'd expect.

The first game ever to let you carry a Tiktaalik! [1]
Carry a pocket-dimension in your purse!
Ask God what you can do for Him!
Find out what really happened to the dinosaurs!
Reconcile God with those dinosaurs!
And many more!

Play "Unintelligent Design"!

Do it now.

While you still can...

[1] Within our knowledge.

Funny. I just had AGS crash (while attempting to save ...  ::)) and send 90% of my game into oblivion.
And while you were saving... that's bitter irony.

according to http://www.freewebs.com/skimbleshanks/templatesandmodules.htm it's Zor:
"Or, if you'd like something less specific - just an average LEC Gui - try THIS one out, many thanks to Zor!"

Thank you, the beta is ready so I believe tomorrow night beta testers will
start testing  :=

Great! And just after I've finished my MAGS entry so I'll have some time to spare.

As a sort of patchwork solution, you could declare a String in your globalscript and then export it.

at the beginning of your global script:
Code: ags
String Example;

In Game_Start:
Code: ags
Example = "Your text here"

At the end of the globalscript you write:
Code: ags
export Example;

In the global header (Globalscript.ash) you add:
Code: ags
import String Example;

You can then access Example from every script.

If this is a flawed solution, could a real programmer please correct me, and if someone released a module that would of course be more ideal.

This is what I'd do, but please, please replace that int with an enumeration... :)

Just saying thanks to dhk for answering a question about creating your own keywords I was about to post.

I second 'Withnail & I'. Freaking hilarious.

Easyrider [...] Eternal sunshine of a spotless mind. Full of flashbacks.  [...]  Professional  [...]  The movie Conversation [...] Once upon a time in the west
Wow, Oliwerko, we have excactly the same taste! (I haven't seen Professional, I'll add that to my list.)

My suggestions:

Catch 22  It's a surreal WWII comedy.
"- It's catch-22: You can only leave this war if you're mad. If you want to leave, you're not mad.
- Then I want to stay! I'm mad!
- If you want tot stay what's the problem?"

If you can find it I also recommend My Dinner with Andre, the title is the summary. The magic of storytelling in a 100 minute conversation.
Not because it fits your description but because it's a great movie and I'll spread the word every chance I get ;)

Really? That'd be great!

I am not saying you can't be a good person without religion, but it helps to have an excuse. [...] But I don't think I am strong willed enough to create my own good like that.

I find that hard to believe (no pun intended). You're saying you wouldn't be able to know right from wrong if you weren't religious?

*gasps with astonishment*

This looks gorgeous! The barbarian reminds me a lot of how I imagined Cohen the Barbarian (from Discworld) and being reminded of DiscWorld while playing a game is never a bad thing.
It's a very good idea, this should be LOL to play indeed.

Can't wait to download this!

According to Genesis, God made man from clay. Yet, biblethumpers seem to take that as a metaphor. Why must the six-day-limit-on-creation and all that being taken literally then?

Quote from: Mr. Psychopath on Sat 22/03/2008 03:44:35There's something very wrong with the world today.

People used to be burned and guillotined by zealots who thought only they had the truth, so there have been some improvements (in large areas of the western world at least).

Hm, I know the kind of people you mean. The closed-minded judges who can't be reasoned with. They really make me mad.

As I recall, there was something in the Bible about warning your brother when he listens to unsound ideas, but it's a whole other matter to say someone's going to hell.
Let me quote Jesus on this: "Judge not lest ye be judged."

All you can do is say what's on your mind, if they listen or not is their problem.

EDIT:
QuoteWhen I say 'bird', you immediately think of a small flying animal with wings, feathers and a beak, because that's what you've been 'brainwashed' to think.

Isn't a small flying animal with wings a bird? It's common sense to assume, since it saves time. Unless I have an emufarm, I'll assume you're talking about the small flying animals with a beak.
It's only brainwashing if I refuse to believe there are birds that can't fly.

Rightclick on them with the 'fill area' tool.

It used to be in this thread, in the first post.

But now it's only blank???

I aim to create a story that branches into sub-stories, resulting in multiple endings, just like the best adventure games.

Pretentious, moi?
Love to know how you'll do that subplot-thing. Guess this is the best way to find it out:

There's a freeware program called Wood Workshop which might be of use to you.

Hm, can't find their site anymore. But you can get it here: http://www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/Graphics_Editors/Wood_Workshop.html

It has loads of wood tile presets which you can alter. Not what you asked for, I know, but probably still usefull.

Hi! Welcome aboard.

Quote from: AdHoc01 on Tue 18/03/2008 15:19:31Disabling all GUIS (I'm using the defult GUIs for my game) ; I have tried using g.Statusline.Visible = false but it doesnt change a thing. I think I might be referencing it in the wrong place. I dont seem to be able to get the load_Room function working, I have tried it in both globalscript.asc and in my room2.asc.

Remember, there's no dot after the g! If you add "gStatusline.Visible = false" to game_start (in the global script) it should be disabled from the start. Like this:

Code: ags

function game_start() // called when the game starts, before the first room is loaded
  {
    gStatusline.Visible = false;
  }

If you add the line to your room_Load, it should be disabled when to the game shifts to this room.

Quote from: AdHoc01 on Tue 18/03/2008 15:19:31Disabling the character; I have tried cEgo.transparency = 100;

Don't disable the character by using transparency.
Go to the room by clicking on Edit Room, look in the menu on the right side for 'ShowPlayerCharacter'. Set that to false and you're done.

There.

Now people will have to enter, or else this crappy thing with the flat rocks will have won.

Fermat's Last Theorem, by Simon Singh. Very entertaining popular science :)

That's interesting, I didn't know that episode of Horizon. The novel I meant (The Wild Numbers by Philibert Schogt) is obviously based on the story of Andrew Wiles.

Of course, you have to actually have some interest in the subject matter for it to really draw you in.

The base of good fiction is emotion. The main character(s) should have a clear goal and strife to try to achieve that goal in the course of the story.
Most if not all people connect to that, and once you've established the connection the setting can be as weird and farfetched as you like, as long as the characters remain realistic.

That's why greek tragedies are still performed on stage, Medea remains a strong and compelling story even when you didn't chop up your kids to take revenge on your ex.
I remember a book about a mathematician who discovers the solution to one of Fermats propositions. Now I'm not interested in mathematics at all, but it was one of the best books I've ever read because I could relate to that guy.

My conviction is that a good writer can make a good story on any subject. (The real problem is only marketing.)

(just kidding, great you're adding a form for clarity)

- if the remarks are well written about even useless items then one would like to examine/pick them up, it adds to the character personality;
      Example:  Examine- Blonde Girl waits for a bus - 'Someone waiting for a bus'/'A hot mamma needs my assistance!'

Calling a blonde girl a useless item isn't the first description I would think of  :=

After the initial negative reaction, I'm glad that there are people who think the main character should have a personality. Thanks for the responses, guys, there's lots of useful insights.

About the friends house, he shouldn't be getting the message "no I won't steal from my friend", but a message "HEY!!!! WTF??? Are you doing?" Second time message he's out of the house and a new puzzles comes up to find a way back in in order to get help from his friend.

This opens up a whole new range of more realistic puzzles, great suggestion. More games should use this, if only for comic sidetracks.

I believe on the end of the week we're going to need few beta testers to help us spot mistakes/bug and find a way to make the game better :)

If you need a beta tester next weekend, just send me a PM. I already love the graphics, so that won't be the problem  ;)
