A couple of new rooms ready. I'm hoping to get the environment done quickly, as the game consists of ~30 different sceneries. The sooner the gameworld is done, the sooner I can start tackling the puzzles.

Also, after some thinking, I decided to take the easy route with music and sound effects. Luckily, I managed to find a public domain recording of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no. 2, which suits the atmosphere and story perfectly. The sound effects I decided also to find online in public domain, just so that this project gets done before I die :=

Quote from: CrashPL on Tue 13/01/2015 13:07:15Are you planning any animations/FMV cutscenes, or just static photos only?

Oh yeah, that. I was actually planning to do the cutscenes as "stacked photographs" in one way resembling comic book -style, with still images but with pages flipping and other animations like that. Those will pretty much be the only animated parts (as making those cutscenes will take me a looooooong time :D )

Let Go

"Helen! Helen! Please, come back!"
I wake up again after the same dream. You are not in my life anymore, yet I can't forget you. No matter how hard I try, these dreams come back time after time. If only I could let you go.

Let Go is a first person adventure somewhat in vein of the modern "walking simulators", as much of the emphasis is put on the narrative. The gameplay is inventory-based where each solved light puzzle nets the player a new "ability" to see things around him in a different light. This is also why the GUI is based on Beneath a Steel Sky, the simplicity of it fits the game properly. The graphics are from actual locations from Finland, Iceland and Canada, edited in a sharp and non-detailed way to carry the story and atmosphere.

This is a project that has been running to and fro in my mind for years, and after many, many scratches I finally managed to find the style that I want to use in the game.

The GUI-graphics are currently placeholders and will probably be like that until the final stages of the production. Like before, I hope to make the music myself, with some melancholic piano tracks to add to the atmosphere. So far, the stage the game is in, looks something like this:

Graphics: 30%
Story: 50%
Puzzles: 20%
Scripting: 5%
Music: 80%

I hope to get this out of my hands before summer, but I won't make any promises :-D

AFTER A SHADOW

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=882

What I think it should have going for it:
-Best Music - Moody acoustic soundtrack recorded with luv.
-Best Short Game - A thrilling story that just ends too quickly!
-Best Voice Acting - Sexy and manly narrator, wets my pants every time.

edit: No, I`m not with stupid, just forgot that rule...

Hmm...perhaps I could also do some voice-acting if still needed. Check After a Shadow if you need to hear what my voice is like.

I turned the ripe old age of 17 today. W00t!

Hey, we seem to share the same birthday, even though I am now 8 years older than you... ;)

Quote from: Nikolas on Thu 28/06/2007 22:16:14The only thing that I would suggest is maybe to have the hero walk a bit faster. There are many BGs that are not necessary for the game, but just prolong the walking and when you are searching a bit (like I always do), you can start feeling non patient anymore... ;)

Agreed. The slow pace of the character makes moving around a pain, maybe he should walk just a little bit faster.

Otherwise, it`s pretty impressive. The audiovisual side is very well done, and it actually reminds me a lot of Police Quest IV. I`m not yet very far, but still it seems to make for a game everyone should try. Nice work!

Heh, still bugging you with this but after trying out a few alternatives I ran out of choices.

The game got sort of reviewed here: http://pc.hrej.cz/plne-hry/adventura/2d-adventura/after-a-shadow/
Now the problem is that I can`t understand heads or tails of czech language so basically I have no clue what they were writing.

In a normal case, I don`t think I would see this much trouble to this but since the text is pretty much something I could use with my thesis I have to ask some of you native czech-speakers around to translate the text into english, or at least the crucial parts of it. I tried the internet-translators already, what I got was pretty garbled english and finnish ;)

PM me if you`re willing to do it(it`s a short text), maybe I can return the favor someday, somehow.  ;D

Just a quick heads-up: the website for Keith has been opened at http://www.teekoo.org/KeithNight

The site is still pretty much under construction and it is buggy but the main reason I put it up a bit early was the fact that I`ve uploaded the game to that server and am fixing the links here so the obviously still defunct RogePost link can finally be put to rest. I also added the original soundtrack of the game to the site, if someone is interested.

Still stuck in the same place. I would really like to finish the game so if anyone could provide an answer to this, it would be great :)

Got an e-mail from Czech Republic today and it seems that AaS will be appearing on the cover-dvd of "Level" some time soon. Even if it is just a space-filler on the disc, it`s great to see that the game has been noticed and I`m both surprised and honored by the request as I really didn`t think the game would draw much attention.

Even though it`s pretty unlikely, but IF the game gets mentioned by anything more than just the title in the magazine, it would be fun to read a translation of it as I can`t speak czech as a finn ;)

Yep, a part that I`m not so proud of. Actually I had in mind that I`d change that particular part but for some reason I didn`t. But I won`t be putting "puzzles" like that in the sequel, rest assured :)
